Romanoff/Bennet Primary Featured on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

On her show last night, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow devoted a segment to the potential 2010 Democratic primary between appointed Sen. Michael Bennet and former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff – and the implications of that primary on the national health care debate. You can watch the segment here:

If you are interested, you can read the article Maddow refers to here. To trace the evolution of Bennet’s position on health care, see here, here, here and then here – it’s a pretty serious shift (and a good one, IMHO).

We’re going to be discussing the potential U.S. Senate primary and other Colorado political issues with ColoradoPols this morning on AM760 at 9:30am. We’re also going to have Rep. Diana DeGette (D) on the show from 7:30-8:30am to talk about health care. Tune in on the radio dial or on the Internet at www.am760.net.

UPDATE: Here’s the podcast of the interview with ColoradoPols – it’s in the last third of this podcast.

  1. Some would say that the AFL-CIO stepped on Bennet’s dick, he squealed and reversed course.

Of course what Maddow missed or failed to account for was the whole evolution of this Romanoff-Bennet primary.

First, Romanoff will now have to commit to keep the pressure on Bennet, without that he’ll duck and run back to his corporate bosses and 17th St/K St handlers.

Second, so many other tactics could have been used to flushout Bennet.  The entry of Romanoff certainly calls into question the process under which Bennet found himself occupying Kenny’s seat.

This intentional miss by Maddow allows her to redress the story at a later date.  I look forward to her editorials on Romanoff v Bennet and the involvement of John Hickenlooper and Bill Ritter, Jr.

If I’m wrong the story could be that this AFL effort is the first taste of the AFL’s dedicated cleansing of the unfaithful.

pssst Congressman Perlmutter, its John Sweeney on the line he has an idea he wants to run by you

      1. It was less then 6 hours before the ‘public option’ video montage was posted.  I’m still waiting for the banner ads on Pols ala Bill Ritter.

Also waiting for the video on EFCA, the picture below does not cut it.  Bennet needs to step up on his Card Check/Forced Arbitration position.

  2. on your AM 760 link but instead of streaming the Jay Marvin show, it kept playing an ad for a piano store over and over.

It’s a shame, I wanted to hear what “Colorado Pols” had to say. Any summary?

        1. mainly the progressives from whom Sirota expects unqualified adoration, disagreeing with the word according to Sirota, pointing out flaws and generally refusing to treat him like the progressive boy wonder/savior, here as a gift from God to teach us all the true way?  Here he’s more likely to encounter various versions of “go away, kid, you’re bothering me”?

          1. I know it comes off like that sometimes. I also don’t “have it in” for David.

I was being totally honest. I listened to him this morning, and I actually enjoyed him as a radio host. He was nothing like he is when he comes here and trolls us. My question was completely genuine.

        2. S’funny. Have to admit. Sirota gets good material from time to time, but a clock is right twice a day, also. I’d knock it out, too, if I made that dough and had a staff helping out.

    1. Bennet became stronger on public option because Democrats wrote him a ton of letters, e-mails, and called his office constantly telling him to support PO.

Maybe Andrew Romanoff did as well (I sure hope he did, lord knows I did), but that’s the extent that he has had an effect on Bennet being a strong leader on PO and health care reform.

The post hoc ergo proctor hoc (or maybe it’s pre hoc ergo post hoc, or something?) on this is ludicrous.

        1. Sen.Bennet moved to support the public option due to constituent advocacy. He told me over a month ago that he strongly backed the public option. Critics then claimed he hadn’t posted it yet on his website. He kept his word.

          1. I support the public option, and I don’t believe it will pass, does not mean he didn’t support it then and now all of a sudden he does ! C’mon.

Maddow can report what she wants but she dosen’t have license to put words in Bennets mouth.

That is some pretty crappy spin.

            1. This was very bad reporting by Maddow. It’s why I don’t take seriously any cable TV “analysis” or “reporting” of Colorado races, whether it’s coming from the right-wing nuts on Fox or their lefty counterparts on MSNBC.

They don’t know the territory. All they’re interested in is their ratings, accuracy be damned.

            2. I support public option, too, dude. Problem is that Obama doesn’t seem to and he needs re-election money. Who’s gonna cut the checks with public option?

Bennet was always against public option, just like he was against unions and labor. He said as much through his actions and votes. And yeah, now he’s “for” public option because this will be his first real election and he’s up to his eyeballs in hypocrisy. His “supporters” want public option, going so far as to beg him to support it, others demanding it. So now he’s “for” it.

You can only wear one face under one hat at a time.

      1. Bennet was against public option from the giddyup and then “for” it only when he realized (or rather his handlers told him he realized) that this was the more popular stand to take and that he was running as an actual Dem and not a Republican, despite his true leanings.

Now that Romanoff is considering the run, Bennet has no choice but to actually start taking stands on issues; at least for now. If Romanoff pulls out (possible?) Bennet will revert to being a Republican again….just like Ritter and Hick.

            1. Stepping on someone else’s dick?

You use all these sexual terms for things in ways that don’t make sense.

Have you ever had sex? With a person? Who’s not you?

                1. You haven’t spent a dime and the Superintendent is already falling in line.

Much work ahead, we’ll do battle, but you have my renewed respect.  I know this Bennet story will bring laughs and spirit to my union member relatives. — Solidarity

              1. “Ben je op je pik getrapt?”-Did someone step on your dick?

The expression is used when someone takes something very personal, or acts very irritated. It may sound like bad language, but in the Netherlands it is common language. Oddly as it may sound, it can be used when adressing [sic] both male and female persons.

Just because you believe your guy is entitled to a free ride to the General doesn’t mean its right for 50+1.  What I find funny is Romo’s radio silence.

I’ll LMAO if come October we find Romo announcing for Gov and Phil Hays standing behind the screen with bags of cash and the standard GOTV effort (Ariel “Schenkler” Attack).
