Ritter Announces Republican Endorsements

Democrat Bill Ritter today announced a slew of Republicans endorsing his campaign for governor. Click below for the full press release…

FORT COLLINS ? Several prominent Larimer County Republicans broke ranks with their party today to announce their support for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter. The Larimer County Republicans are just the first group of GOP members from around Colorado who will be tossing their support behind Ritter.??I stand here today fully supporting Bill Ritter to become Colorado?s next governor,? said Bill Kaufman, a former Republican state lawmaker and longtime GOP leader. ?He?s the only candidate in the race giving us straight talk about the issues facing Colorado. He?s the only one taking a responsible position. He?s the only one offering a clear vision for the future and realistic ideas about K-12 education, higher-ed, transportation and water.??

Kaufman has been a loyal Republican for more than 45 years. He was involved in the campaigns of former GOP Congressmen Bill Armstrong, Jim Johnson, Hank Brown and Wayne Allard. He served in the Colorado House from 1992 to 2000 and served as chair of the Larimer County Dems and on the state GOP Executive Committee. He currently serves on the Colorado Transportation Commission, appointed by Republican Gov. Bill Owens.? Other Republicans who endorsed Ritter today include:??

  • Cheryl Olson ? former County Commissioner (1996 ? 2000)?

  •

  • Jim Johnson ? former U.S. Representative (1972 ? 1980)?

  •

  • Don Johnson ? prominent Ft. Collins attorney and long time Republican activist?

  •

  • Stu Van Meveren ? former Larimer County D.A. (1972 ? 2004)?

These Republicans praised Ritter for supporting Referendum C last year and for now opposing this year?s efforts to overturn Referendum C ? a proposal being supporting by both Republican candidates for governor. Ritter also opposes Amendment 38, which would make it easier to place initiatives on future ballots and is supported by the two GOP candidates. Numerous civic and business organizations, including the Larimer County Board of Commissioners, oppose it.??I?m humbled to be standing here today with such great leaders. I?m grateful that these brave and courageous Republicans are supporting me,? Ritter said. ?They understand that it will take strong, responsible leadership to live up to the Colorado Promise and make this a better state for our children and our grandchildren.?

  1. Eagerly awaiting the corresponding “Democrats for Beauprez.” If any can be located under a rock somewhere.

Hey Literary, it’s not just the number but the quality. Like other things in life.

Awww, how quaint.  Who the heck are those 4 people, anyway?
    So much for quality.

  3. I see we have some graduates of the no children left behind system here.  Seems like it’s 5 to me; still hardly a slew, more like gaggle, but that hardly sounds very cool.

  4. I too am anxious to see who’s leading up Dems for Both Ways.  I know there are many Dems rooting for the Little Fella but alas we have mixed motives for doing so………..

  5. I’m guessing that was a typo. . .the fact that five public type people are getting behind ritter isn’t that big of a deal, untill you consider that those five are from LARIMER COUNTY.

LARIMER COUNTY people, the heart of Musgrave country, where being a conservative means you’re a pussy unless you put a “neo” in front of it.

I would expect more of these announcements to come, look for the Springs to be the next source. . .

  6. This is just the beginning–Larimer, then Jeffco, then EL PASO–can’t wait to see all the biz guys down there frowning on BB’s anti-Ref C position…

  7. Rumor has it, Trail Head called an emergency meeting w/ him to discuss the serious problems w/ his campaign.  This is like when Soviet Politburo would recall the leader of Hungary or Poland to the Kremlin to discuss the political problems at home.  They were usually quickly replaced………..

    Yeah, it’s JUST like that.

  9. First off “Romanoff for Czar” don’t use the “9mm headache” analogy or Patroit will call a friend in the Hoover Building.

Secondly… I’m not so sure about your conclusion to the Trailhead meeting. If they are unhappy about Bob they are not going to pitch HIM. John Marshall may get ousted in favor of Sean Tonner and Cinnamon Watson or even Chuck Broerman, but I’ll be just shocked if there is more or less than a senior staff shakeup.

  10. Actually, the comparison is quite fitting especially since Owens is obsessed with the Cold War era and a self-described Soviet expert.  He’s just another nostalgic fantasizer thinking of ways to deregulate, privatize,…I mean turn back the clock so a Vangaurd can rule the many.

  11. 6 in Larimer GOP endorse Ritter

A half-dozen Larimer County Republicans jumped party lines Monday and endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter largely because of his support for Referendum C last fall. Ritter’s possible Republican opponents, U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez and Marc Holtzman, opposed the voter-approved referendum that allows the state to keep an estimated $4.25 billion over the next five years. “You really have to be a nut to be … against Referendum C like Holtzman and Beauprez,” said former Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Johnson.

  12. “‘I think it’s pretty clear that this is a party that’s as unified as it’s been in a long, long time,’ said John Marshall, Beauprez’s campaign manager.”

This is true if he is referring to Republicans uniting behind Ritter.

  13. Over the next year or two, there were will be more and more Republicans switching Democratic–not just here, but all across the nation.

  14. It’s all gonna work out.

This week alone I got one Dem to go Lib, and another Dem (precinct captain) to see that although she’s 50+ year registered Dem, she admits she can’t support her parties’ agenda and she shares very few values with her fellow Dems.

Keep on legislating Blues, you’re making it easy for us Reds.
