  1. David Lane is now appealing the decision to fire his client Ward Churchill. Bet he wishes that he had taken the big settlement the University was offering him. Isn’t this the same David Lane who got up in front of a big crowd and promised to keep Manual High School open? So much for that. David is great at getting his name in the paper I wonder how good he will be at keeping Ward Churchill employed?

  2. The GJ Sentinel reported that Bill Ritter claimed that Beauprez sold out the western slope. A bit of a difference.

Ritter is just trying to play on the fears being fanned by Ken Salazar that oil shale development could lead to another boom and then bust. A lot of people on the west slope had their rear ends handed to them in the early 80’s when Exon pulled the plug on oil shale. They are afraid that this will happen again.

The truth is that they were riding the crest and did not allow for the possibility of oil shale not being feasible. It is easy to be a supported of capitalism when you’re winning. The true supported of capitalism understand that sometimes you’re not always the winner.

There is still no guarantee that oil shale is feasible and a lot of people will be a lot more cautious with their business plans this time. If not, they deserve what they get because they made a poor business decision. That’s life in the little city as well as the big.

  3. I just finshed listening to the radio debate between the three Democratic candidates for CD-7.  It sounds like Herb should go back to the south and begin his “run” for presidency that he referred to in yesterday’s Post article.  Ed sounds like the typical insider Washington politician/bankruptcy lawyer, and I don’t think that’s what America needs nor what we want.  Peggy seems to be the breath of fresh air we all need.  I love her last line.  “If you like what’s going on in Washington today, I’m not your gal.”  This must be why Peggy is leading in the polls.

  4. Why would Ed ask about personal disclosure forms during a debate?  I’m sure voters are more concerned with healthcare or education, not how much money Ed makes as a bankruptcy lawyer.

  5. Speaking of debates, from the story in the paper this morning it looks like last night’s 5th debate was a real yawner.  It sounds like everyone sat around and said the same thing about the war (no real surprise there).  What was the purpose of having a debate on an issue where everyone agreed?  Was anyone even there?

  6. 1) Every Way Ed
    2) Big Oil Ed
    3) Insider Ed
    4) Ed “Even though all available polls indicate I’m getting stomped, I’m actually way ahead. Trust me!” Perlmutter

  7. Who are the dummies staffing the Trailhead Group?  The both ways Bill “website” they created is the stupidest thing in the race so far.  Hey Trailhead, take your poli-sci interns and send them to Alaska where they can’t break anything.  Freakin morons.

  8. The http://www.bothwaysbill.com site makes some good observations.  If the Ritter folks try and drive bothwaysbob, they’re going to boomerang.  Ritter’s positions on abortion are pretty insane.  How anyone can claim to be pro-life but for subsidizing a group that performs abortions is insane.

  9. “Mushroom Cloud”, I sincerely hope you aren’t implying that the site is Trailhead’s idea of going nuclear on Ritter. If so, the GOP is in even more trouble than I thought.

  10. Ward your attorney loves the attention. Hundreds of Ministers in attendance. David Lane gets up and promises to keep Manual High School open.
    It is now closed.
The Board of Regents would have paid you a handsome amount.
But, than someone from your team leaked the story that the Regents wanted to pay you off.
Ward, you’re not going to get a dime, you won’t have a job and I bet today you wish you had settled. Than again maybe you can sue your lawyer later.

  11. Don’t let politicians frame the debate. The longer a person has been a politician, the more you have to be skeptical.

Listen to your head and hearts (for those who have either!) and pay attention. We need a lot of fresh air. Lobbyists and Corporatists control the representatives of the People.

What is wrong with that picture?

  12. Also, after reading the following, agree or disagree?

Bush’s pal, Putin, doesn’t want to speak with his voice. The dire foreign policy situation was actually summed up by a major conservative player in this morning’s Washington Post:
“North Korea is firing missiles. Iran is going nuclear. Somalia is controlled by radical Islamists. Iraq isn’t getting better, and Afghanistan is getting worse,” said William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard and a leading conservative commentator. “I give the president a lot of credit for hanging tough on Iraq. But I am worried that it has made them too passive in confronting the other threats.”
Actually, Mr. Kristol, because the President invaded Iraq, he has to be passive confronting the other threats.

    What a mess.

Anyone want to come up with a solution. This mess is dangerous!!

  13. And DANGEROUS REPUBLICANS:

Tonight, CNN’s Larry King started his interview with President Bush by asking him about North Korea: “You’re into taking the lead on these things. You took the lead on Iraq, the U.N. went along, you got other countries to go along, why not take the lead here?”

Actually, the U.N. did not “go along” with the invasion of Iraq. President Bush promised to take the issue to the U.N. Security Council “no matter what the whip count,” but never did. U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan described the invasion of Iraq as “not in conformity with the UN charter…from the charter point of view, it was illegal.”

The media is complicit and shamefully wrong.

  14. Although I didn’t know this was “news”, good for Jared.  He’s a great guy and I completely agree with Katy Atkinson that in this day and age it’s less and less of a factor, with the exception of the homophobes in my party.  I witnessed the pain of a good friend who lived in a small town and stayed in the closet for over 15 years.  Very few people knew, including his family.  When he did come out, people were shocked — in typical small town fashion they pondered, “How could such a great guy be gay?” To his credit, his coming out has not only let him live in peace, but has certainly turned the opinion of a lot of locals who had a very “ast-century” opinion on gays. The quicker we get over this phobia and work on pulling the log out of our own eye first — the better off we’ll all be.

  15. @ Mushroom……that’s pretty lame and adolescent.  It’s like the high school kid who gets in a good dig on a classmate, and the classmate’s best come back is, “So are you!”
Even though Both Ways Bob’s fundraising is lagging, he should be able to hire a media person to come up with something more creative than “Both Ways Bill!”
And if he can’t, can’t Snake Head hire some talented media people.
