State House Candidate Hospitalized After Car Crash

(Rachel, whenever you have a chance to get back, is there a public address where friends can send get-well cards? – promoted by ProgressiveCowgirl)

Update 5pm: Andrew is home and resting.

This is being posted by Andrew Bateman’s wife using his account. Updates will be posted when possible.

At approximately 7pm on Monday, November 21, Andrew Bateman’s car was struck from behind, pushing his car into the vehicle in front of him. Andrew sustained multiple injuries to his head, neck, legs and feet. He was in and out of consciousness and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Doctors are still determining the extent of the injuries. There were no passengers in the car at the time and, as far as we no, there were no other serious injuries.

We will do our best to update you all over the next few days. But his care and well-being come first.

  1. Saw the photo of the smashed bumper on Facebook — I’ve been rear-ended pretty hard with nowhere near that kind of damage, so I can only imagine how hard that impact must have been. Andrew is a resilient guy though, and I am sure he will be up and at ’em in no time, probably hopping around Occupy Denver on crutches with a neck brace!

Hope you are holding up okay as his support team, Rachel. Remember to take care of yourself, too!

  2. @progressivecowgirl

Um… I think the best place for that would be his po box.

    3:30 update

Andrew just returned from another round of xrays and a ct scan of his head. We don’t have results yet.

  3. This is Andrew. I am back at the wheel. I was discharged from the hospital about 20 minutes ago after the xrays showed no broken bones and ct scan came back negative for internal bleeding.

They have given me some pretty serious pain medication, which I intend to take asap, so I may or may not be coherent enough to post any more updates.

But I am alive and at home. We have to send in pictures of the car to the insurance company, so I’ll have Rachel post them to facebook while she’s at it if anyone wants to see.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I hope to be back on my feet as soon as I am able. The HD 41 candidate forum is in a week and I plan to be there.

    1. If you were hospitalized and your wife stopped by to tell us, I’d frontpage that, too. I think the community aspect of the site is important. I don’t usually frontpage “I’m leaving for a while” diaries, but “Someone you all know is in the hospital” is important to the community, in my opinion. If we didn’t want a community we wouldn’t read a site where most of the interaction and information is in the comments, and we wouldn’t have open threads.

  4. And a heads up (no pun intended) to make sure to follow through on any whiplash concerns. It may not hurt now, but it sure will in about 30 yrs.

    Get Well!
