    1. But you’re right, we appear to have used this quote on January 4th, 2011.

It’s one of our favorites so we’ll leave it up. Have you always had a photographic memory?

        1. Hi Duke,

Your signature made me think of the following.

“The modern liberal is engaged in one of mans’ oldest exercises in moral philosophy, that is the search for a superior moral justification for theft.”    Anon

          1. The original is apparently from John Kenneth Galbraith:

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”

      1. from the Soros machine and the Guvs can’t come up with fresh quotes?

Its that lavish lifestyle you lead, like a GSA employee on ‘assignment.’

  1. If you know someone who saves the world using a headset, a radio and a bank of computers this is the week to send them your thanks.

It’s easy to take 9-1-1 operators for granted, because we’re always here.

  2. Of course, this phrase could be used for any number of state legislatures this year, but for today’s entry we go to the state of Tennessee, where senators have just approved perhaps the nation’s strictest abstinence-only sex education bill.

Provisions not found in other states?  Teachers going beyond the allowed curriculum in the bill would be targets of legal action by parents who object, and, more importantly, holding hands would be considered a “gateway sexual activity”.  You know, kind of like marijuana is a “gateway drug”, but worse.

So no more joining hands in a circle and singing Kumbayah, folks – it’s the first step towards mass orgies.

  3. How Computers Are Creating a Second Economy Without Workers

When the disappointing jobs numbers were reported last week (employers added 120,000 jobs in March, about half the number reported in the two previous months), analysts tripped over themselves looking for an explanation. Of course, jobs numbers are bound to vary, but in my view the long-term trend calls for more jobs to disappear, and the reason is clear as day: the exploding Second Economy.

The Second Economy — a term the economist Brian Arthur uses to describe the computer-intensive portion of the economy — is, quite simply, the virtual economy. One of its main byproducts is the replacement of low-productivity workers with computers.

      1. but only now is there NEW LINGO for it. “The Second Economy.” Buy the book! It’s totally different from “Software Eats Economy” or whatever the term from two months ago was.

      2. Check with SXP, he tracks all my comments 🙂

I post it repeatedly because I don’t see the government doing anything to address the system unemployment I think we’re going to see not only continue, but get worse.

  4. Frothy’s former sugar daddy inserted his bank account into his mouth again today on the sparsely viewed Fox Business Network.

The Vietnam era evangelical republican draftdodger turned conservative grey panther toughguy inexplicably said that now that mittens and frothy are joined together post primary and “have trained their barrels on President Obama, I hope his teleprompters are bullet proof”.

Of course, no “fair minded conservative” is going to consider a thinly veiled threat on the life of the President of the United States nearly as outrageous and unacceptable as Hilary Rosen hurting Mrs. Mittens’ feelings.

But that’s a conservative for ya.

I would like to see the Secret Service interview the Vietnam era coward Friess to get a better feel as to whether he’s a threat.

    Just to be sure.

  5. Consider the story of Leah Bolger, the latest American hero up on trial:

She is a young female artist in the Midwest. She joins the Navy at 22, is made commander and serves two decades as an anti-submarine warfare specialist. After retiring she joins Veterans for Peace and becomes the organization’s first female president. Then, in October of 2011, she commits the crime of interrupting a public congressional hearing of the Super Committee to deliver a message from the 99 percent: End the wars and tax the rich to fix the deficit.

Because of her 45-second transgression, Commander Bolger now faces a court trial this Thursday morning, April 12, where she could receive a maximum jail sentence of six months. Bolger, 54, intends to plead guilty and use her court appearance to draw the connection between America’s deficit debacle and the three-quarters-of-a-trillion-dollar defense budget we, as voting taxpayers, spend as a base-mark for failed and unending military ventures overseas.

    h/t truthout

  6. Matt Taibbi: Why Obama’s JOBS Act Couldn’t Suck Worse

The “Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act” (in addition to everything else, the Act has an annoying, redundant title) will very nearly legalize fraud in the stock market.

In the meantime, let’s just say this is a dramatic step taken by Barack Obama. Nobody should have any illusions about where he stands on Wall Street corruption after this thing. Boss Tweed himself couldn’t have done any worse.

      1. But does that mean Matt Taibbi’s criticism of the bill is invalid?

We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out. I think it will probably lead to widespread fraud. Taibbi is certain it will. Senator Bennet took the lead on getting it passed assuring us the amendments he got added will prevent fraud. Time will tell.

He is credited as the lead Senator who got it over the final hurdles to pass in the Senate so he is tied to it.

  7. It’s been known since Tony K exposed it, AdamsCo has a series of massive government corruption scandals.. Well today the corrupt small business manager who was enticed into whoring out his workers to win no bid government contracts got 13 years … hard time.

libertad asks, what about all the corrupt government officials that were on the take? When will they be convicted and sentenced?

DENVER — A former Adams County paving company executive has been sentenced to 13 years in prison in a government corruption case that was first exposed in a

In January, a jury found Coen guilty on 20 counts of theft, 19 counts of conspiracy to commit theft, 21 counts of forgery and two counts of attempt to influence a public servant.

Coen, 58, ran the day-to-day operations of paving companies when the contractor received millions of dollars of no-bid contracts from Adams County Public Works to resurface roads in the northeast suburban area.

In 2008, CALL7 Investigators raised questions about the no-bid contracts, apparent gifts and work on county employees’ homes provided by Quality Paving. Those stories sparked an investigation that led to charges against Coen and six others.

    ….snip

Over the last three years, the investigation involved the collection and review of more than 80,000 pages of documents, interviews of factual and expert witnesses and detailed examinations of numerous county road construction projects.
