Report Grand Junction Police Department Case # 1012-00022184

(Nice investigative blogging. – promoted by ProgressiveCowgirl)

I paid $1.25 to obtain a copy of the actual police report. Apologies to Jennifer Bailey. Nobody phoned the police. Someone physically walked into the police department to report an incident. The case status is inactive. After reading the actual police report, I stand by my original comment: The GOP needs anger management therapy.

Names have been redacted from the report, but this is the text:

On Wednesday, 05-09-2012, I responded to the front counter to speak with [Redacted] and [Redacted] who wished to report a suspicious incident that occurred at the Mesa County Republican board meeting that had occurred between 1700 and 1740 hours.

The reporting parties advised me of the following:

Both [Redacted] and [Redacted] advised me that on Wednesday, 05-09-2012, they were attending a board meeting of the Mesa County Republicans located at 1114 N. 1st Street. There was some apparent animosity between some of the members. [Redacted] described these as Tea Party members. One member, known to them as Marjorie Haun, was aggressively putting a digital recording device in front of [Redacted] each time she spoke. [Redacted] ask Haun not to recortd her but Haun continued.

As [Redacted] was walking past another Republican member, known to him as Jerry Hunsinger, he placed his hand on the man’s shoulder and told him that he had received the e-mails. As [Redacted] did so, Hunsinger spun around with his arm extended. [Redacted] stated in doing so Hunsinger struck the woman beside him, known only to [Redacted] by the last name of Chazen. Chazen accused [Redacted] of hitting her, rather than Hunsinger. [Redacted] left the meeting and came to the police department to file a report.

[Redacted] gave me copies of two emails that had been forwarded to him by another membr of the party. Both emails appear to be written by Jerry Hunsinger who identified himself as SCV# 321254, which stand for Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Both e-mails state Hunsinger’s open animosity towards [Redacted]. Copies of those e-mails are included with this report.

[Redacted] also gave me a copy of a letter sent to the Grand Junction Free Press which speaks of a divisiveness between the “new blood” and the “old guard”.

[Redacted] were looking for documentation of this incident in case they were accused of being the aggressors.

I guess that they were right. Even though the names were redacted, my educated guess is that the people filing the police report were Garry and Barbara Brewer, and Jennifer Bailey did, indeed, accuse them of being the aggressors in her post at ColoradoPols.

Now for the attachments:

An E-mail was sent to the Grand Junction Free Press signed Jerry A. Hunsinger, delegate 3rd CD and State GOP Assemblies. It was forwarded to [Redacted] on April 28, 2012

The text follows.

New blood in the GOP

Will be thorn to old leaders

In response to the Gary Harmon May 19 article, “GOP candidates get ready for a showdown,” I say, “Way to go Jennifer Bailey. All we need do is just back off and you or one of the other sanctimonious WSCA Board members will say something stupid that clearly shows how out of touch you are.”

Bailey’s comment in Harmon’s article has to be a last-ditch dffort to prop up Tipton. Guess what, I was at that debate and Tipton got whipped. Baily and her group had a chance to back the rising star, Bob McConnell, but no, they backed a man who has already proved he cannot beat Salazar.

In case she hasn’t noticed, politicians aren’t faring too well. McInnis, Norton and Tipton are in for a surprise at the state assembly. We are taking our country back and we no longer need organizations like the Western Slope Conservative Alliance and retread politicians to help with that effort. New blood is [balance of sentence is illegible in the copy.]

The final page of the report contains the text of two Emails received by [Redacted]

The below are the e-mails I received:

This was sent April 21, 2012

If the SCV meeting I just walked out of is representative of what I can expect, I will never attend another. What the hell is up with the Sons of the Revolution or whomever they were? I don’t want to do anything with them.

Furthermore [Redacted] is a low-life piece of shit as far as I am concerned and I have no intention of participating in anything with him in attendance.

Jerry Hunsinger

SCV #321254

This was sent April 22, 2012

I think I was clear insofar as [Redacted] is concerned-I can’t stand to even look at the crooked son-of-a bitch. If he is going to appear from “time-to-time,” I will not attend.

I have absolutely no interest in associating with SAR; I am a Confederate, always have been. Combining the two diametrically opposed ideologies is of no interest whatsoever to me, nor will I ever be part of a “camp leadership team” that supports such crap.

So, if you think it necessary to kiss [Redacted] ass, go ahead, but I don’t kiss anyboy’s [sic] ass, ever, nor

Jerry

FYI-I received a third e-mail however all it contained was a message that “he was out of the office.”

I hope the above is informative.

  1. Now there is a real leader, someone everyone would love to fall into line with and take the party to the top. NOT so much.He sounds like the kind of guy who would work with others to fix the problems our country is facing doesn’t he? The GOP should really be proud. With him and the lying Jennifer Bailey right up there at the top of the heap it is no wonder the smell is so bad. Manure like this just plain STINKS no matter where it comes from.

  2. The first time s/he reported this story s/he said that the incident happened outside the City limits.  That wasn’t true.

S/he also reported that police were called to the scene.  That wasn’t true either.

The follow-up story above contains a lot of speculation. At least it’s labeled as speculation.  But speculation isn’t reporting.

Reporting involves some semblance of fact-checking.  I’m glad Konola spent the $1.25 for the police report.  S/he should have spent it before his/her initial report, which turned out to be less than factual.

Or s/he could have picked up the phone and talked to people who were there.  One of them and you have a rumor, two of them and you have a story.

    1. Go back and look at my original post. I said that the GJ Police department said it was outside of the city limits. I even posted the text of their E-mail to me.

Here, I’ll make it easy for you:

Grand Junction isn’t immune. I was told that a fight broke out at a recent Grand Junction Republican meeting (May 9.) Evidently two factions of the party were fighting over who would be the spokesperson for the Romney campaign locally.  According to my source, Grand Junction police were called to break up a fist fight between Jerry Huntsinger (author and civil war re-enactor) and Garry Brewer (husband of Barbara Brewer, Mesa County Assessor). Evidently Marjorie Haun and Jennifer Baily were witnesses to the fisticuffs.

I filed a Colorado Open Records Act request to get the police report with the Grand Junction police department. The response I received was that the altercation took place outside of the city limits, so I would have to file a request with the county sheriff. I’ll eventually get around to doing that, but it may be a while.

  3. watching the establishment in Mesa county having this much trouble. It’s kinda fun for those of us, liberals, that is, who have lived under the terrible gaze of the “nurse Ratchet” of county parties, the Mesa County Republicans. Best not to get out of line…

The Republican party in Mesa county is an aristocracy that has been passed, benignly, from generation to generation. It hasn’t been challenged, to my knowledge, since I arrived here in 1973.

Until now. From within. Perhaps it is time for the Dems to pile on and get a little more aggressive. For instance…whatever became of that little nepotism thing involving Tiptons’ daughter(?) and lobbyists and such. I am sure he has other soft spots on his flanks.

Let me remind one and all I am not a Tea party supporter. But I have a great deal more respect for the genuine populism of the Tea party, their POV on social issues aside, than the established corporatists. I believe the disaster capitalists typified by Mitt Romney, Dick Armey, Scott Tipton, and company are much more dangerous.

    They serve mammon…only.

    1. Be advised that regardless of what the police report says, there were NOT any GJResult Grassroots Tea Party members present or involved in the Republican/ WSCA dust-up.  No doubt, the media will identify the perpetrators as Tea Party members and in Jennifer Bailey’s words; no one owns the Tea Party name.  No doubt if you could, she would have already tried to buy it, however, the Tea Party name is something that must be earned with the application of values and principles.  We have worked very hard and suffered a lot of grief to build our credibility with the people, and that to us means Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens and all the others.  We have all of them in our membership.  Actually Claudette Konola became a member of GJResult/Tea Party just recently.

Our reputation is important to us and we would very much appreciate; if a Tea Party must be blamed for this embarrassing debacle that those persons who wish to do so would correctly identify the Tea Party in question as the WSCA Tea Party wannabes, a title which I believe fits very well at least better than their RINO clothing which does not fit very well. And thank you all in advance for that consideration.  Perhaps we can return the favor when the same group claims to be the Democrat Party or perhaps environmentalists.

  4. Ralphie nailed it – Kanola blogged before checking her her first story – the cat is out of the bag. Now everyone in Mesa County knows Kanola’s Republican source, none other than Jennifer Baily.

Baily boasts her “conservative” credentials with the Western Slope Conservative Alliance, acts like she still works for Congressman Tipton (fired as the story goes) and claims credit for successfully launching Republican Ray Scott into office (and may still have an offial title with his campaign). Kanola, on the other hand, ran for office (maybe against Ray Scott – she had such a hard time deciding which office to run for-I don’t think anybody remembers) as a Democrat, hangs out at Main Street Bagels to make certain everyone in town thinks she is part of the Democrat inner circle and most recently proclaims an official tie to Dan Robinson’s campaign-against Ray Scott.

The story that has most Mesa County Democrats and Republicans laughing (never together, but certainly at the same time) is the revealation of the unholy alliance between Kanola and Baily. Politicos in both parties are stunned at the union of these outcasts from their respective parties. Some call it “twin sisters of different parties.”

While it is unfortunate that the campaign season will likely bring an end to the bi-partisan chuckle now going on in Mesa County, both parties should agree that it is only fair to Scott and Robinson to allow them to disavow any connection to Baily and Kanola and to move forward with their respective campaigns. Perhaps Baily and Kanola can find their own coffee shop, and keep both parties happier just a little longer.

    1. For the record Jennifer Baily and I have only had a conversation on two occasions, neither of them recent. Both were in 2010 when I did run for office as a Democrat, first against Ray Scott in House District 54, then switching to a Senate race against Steve King, at the request of some former Mesa County Democratic Chairs. Those conversations happened when the board of WSCA interviewed me as a candidate, and when I went to the GOP victory party to congratulate Steve King on his victory over me. We don’t communicate in any way, ever.

But this post is just one more example of how sophomoric the people leading the GOP in Mesa County really are, and is further evidence of my contention that they all need some anger management therapy.

    2. one thing is pretty clear.

      Whoever you are…you don’t have a clue.

I don’t know Jennifer Bailey…but I know Claudette very well. A well respected member of the Democratic party, Claudette ran against Steve King.

I will only point out that your deliberate misspelling of her name indicates the childishness of your attitude.

    3. The writing style seems vaguely familiar as do the misspellings, which appear to be a message in themselves.   “How could I possibly know this person if I can’t spell their name?”  It’s hard to say for certain but having spent some time swimming around the edges of the WSCA gene pool, (more accurately described as a passing acquaintance with life among the cannibals) my assessment would be Jennifer Bailey is about to get a look at the underside of the bus; in my opinion a long overdue chassis inspection.  But the immediate question is who besides me and a few thousand other people hold that fantasy and this post sounds more like someone trying to advance the queue by eliminating the next in line.

How ironic is it that this WSCA cabal has only been claiming the Tea Party title for less than two weeks and they’re already eating their young, rolling around on the ground, B-slapping each other around like they were on a weekend, all expense paid jaunt to Caracas, using stolen IDs and in the company of expensive entertainment, and writing checks with their mouths that the other end won’t be able to cash.  And who will get the bill?  The Conservative voters of Mesa County who are still suffering PTSD as a result (no pun intended) of this group’s leadership seminar on display in the last election which consisted of the gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands and the battle-cry “God save us from the Democrats and their terrible war dogs” followed by “It was the Tea Party’s fault”.

Just think, two weeks ago they couldn’t spell Tea Party and now they are one; by declaration and decree.  But it can get pretty hot in that “Tea Party” kitchen, something they were apparently wholly unprepared for because their only experience thus far is in the preparation of a two item menu; Judas Goat and Scapegoat both now being served with “Kool-Aid” from a teacup.  Bone AppГ©tit!

And while you’re under that bus, you might want to take a look at that six and remember the question in Mesa County is not ‘are you paranoid’ but ‘are you paranoid enough’?
