WSCA Gets Nasty

(What, cyber-bullying, from the same “side” that harassed BJ Nikkel at home and at church for a simple committee vote? No WAY. – promoted by ProgressiveCowgirl)

I’ve always known about dirty tricks at the national level when it comes to politics, but I’m amazed at the pettiness and nastiness generated by the people running WSCA.

The latest example started when Jim Spehar wrote a column in the Sentinel. He mentioned the disagreement between the two local Tea Party groups, Western Slope Conservative Alliance and GJResult. After pointing out the paranoia demonstrated by a bunch of gun nuts in a sheriff’s forum hosted by WSCA, he made this comment:

“What’s scary is that the group that put on this embarrassing show might not be the most conservative organization in local politics. The WSCA is considered part of the local GOP party structure, RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) by GJ Results, the other folks claiming to be the real “Tea Party” in these parts.”

WSCA reacted by sending out an E-mail blast asking people to write letters to the editor complaining about the comment. That’s pretty normal in the political world. I frequently do the same thing. What was not normal, and not nice, was that they printed Spehar’s home address in the E-mail blast. He wrote the column as part of his job with the Sentinel. Any comments about his column should have been directed toward the Sentinel, not at him and his family in his home, especially when the people receiving the E-mail are paranoid gun nuts.

It got even more bizarre. Marjorie Haun, WSCA member, blogger and frequent letter writer, demanded that Jim Spehar retract his column and apologize. I find it somewhat amusing that real insult was directed toward GJResult for being even scarier than WSCA. I doubt that Spehar is going to retract anything. I expect Marjorie Haun to get even nastier. That woman has no sense of what is proper and what is not proper in the game of politics. What is especially frightening is that she is a teacher in School District 51. What is she teaching our kids?

Sometime I may have to write about how officers at WSCA got one of the leaders of GJResult involved in a criminal investigation based on bogus charges. I have a copy of the police report in a file somewhere in my office. I say somewhere, because things have been piling up since I’ve been distracted by breast cancer and the surgery to remove it.

On a personal note, I met with the surgeon yesterday, and it was pretty much all good news. I have an appointment with an oncologist on July 3, where the follow up treatment will be discussed and implemented.

As a conservative and Tea Party co-founder, it’s embarrassing to read Ms Konolas “diary”, not necessarily for the content; that’s accurate, (and embarrassing too) but because I find myself in agreement with her assessment of the ongoing dust-up between the Western Slope Conservative Alliance and well , just about everybody that’s not a member of their self appointed executive board of directors.

Why is the Republican Party allowing this small, special interest group that does not represent even their own rank and file members to continue to create havoc in Mesa County?  Perhaps the biggest embarrassment of all, at least for western slope Tea Parties was the declaration on May 4 by WSCA that they had decided to become ‘THE’ Tea Party; not A Tea Party but THE Tea Party.

Since that announcement they have managed to get the Tea Party name in two separate police reports http://www.coloradopols.com/sh…   and http://www.coloradopols.com/sh… and two newspaper articles http://www.gjsentinel.com/spec… and Slaps, taps, police reports from GOP meeting |GJSentinel.com And one of their members recently did an interview with our local channel 11 (kkco) (Upset by flyer: Mesa County Library threatening “Tea Party” action against our Mesa County Public library because he didn’t like a poster he saw there.

The only saving grace in this whole debacle is that the REAL Tea Party, after seeing what they were doing to besmirch the Tea Party name, took the initiative and registered the reserved, trade and domain name “Western Slope Conservative Alliance Tea Party”.  At least that Tea Party name is beyond their reach,   which is what the grownups do when the children start breaking the other children’s toys.

Now we can only hope that someone from the state or national Republican Party will take note of the Mesa County monster they have created and put a leash on that puppy; most ricki-tic before they pull the entire election down the toilet with them.

And just as an aside, GJResult.Tea Party members were not insulted by Mr. Spehar’s comment that we were more conservative than the WSCA bunch.  That observation was accurate, however WSCA does outrank us by about 107 points out of a possible 100 on the totally, irrevocably, died under electroshock at Rodez, insane list.  We just went to the right, they apparently went nuttier than a fruit cake.
