at least trading off days, rising early to play sentry (sp?) here at CPs.

Now you know I don’t listen to Rush, but even he knows this tidbit …. So many polls are sampling a turnout that at this time is false.

Democrats are energized at a whopping 37% and you can’t blame them when you review the facts, Obama’s policies have failed.

Sure on every utopian measure, his policies sounded good. But continuing to divert money away from the private sector to massive new or growing government programs has proven once again to not be the panacea it’s promised to be.

        • Libertad says:

Intensity of support or opposition can have an impact on campaigns. Currently, 22% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way Obama is performing as president. Forty-five percent (45%) Strongly Disapprove, giving him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -23 (see trends). This is the president’s lowest Approval Index rating of 2012.

This good news here is that Obamas valley of disparation could be coming at the right time, early. He can only go up from here!

You know, the one’s asses saved from The First Republican Great Depression by private enterprise.  No, wait, that wasn’t it at all!  (Although Hoover and GW both tried it.)

FDR and Congress taxed the heck out of the 1%, (not so easy to offshore income then, I guess) and that paid to put people to work.  Little things like the TVA, rural telephone and electrification, relief/food, Hoover and Bonneville dams, to just mention a few projects that private enterprise could piggyback on.  And, then, you know, claim that they did it themselves, they don’t need no stinking public infrastructure.

Compared to private enterprise, which must make a profit or be subsidized, government can do many things that help all of us.

And where do you think those tax dollars go?  Right back to our communities, for the most part.  Salaries that in turn pay for groceries, cars, and mortgages.

I guess Goebbels was right, you’ve heard the lies so often you believe them to be truth.

Who wins with Obamacare ….. Healthcare companies, drug companies….yes corporations dependent on government mandates. Whored out to Obama and loving it.

Who wins with green energy … it’s corporations … With all this investment you should see your electricity rates falling.

            • ClubTwittyClubTwitty says:

Corporations pretty much win when either party rules.  If you have missed that you are even dumber than I pegged you for, which makes me wonder how you sit up to type at the keyboard.

            • Craig says:

If you installed your own solar electric and water panels, you would be seeing your energy bill going down.  In fact, my brother who did just that is now actually getting money back.  See how it works?

            • Governments are supposed to be a benefit to society, at least we hope.  And in this particular country, the government contracts with private corporations for many things that society needs.  This isn’t fascism, but rather the capitalist republic that we live in.

Fascism would involve ultra-nationalism (disdaining of all foreign countries as inferior), nativism (oppression of foreigners), and enforced national unity.  It glorifies war in an attempt to galvanize national opinion in its favor, and it works with corporations to strengthen the authoritarian rule of the government over people.  Upton Sinclair once said of fascism: “when fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross”.  Does that sound more like Obama and Democrats, or more like another party in this country?

acknowledgment from the Right to anything factual. It’s all ideology, all the time. That, too, must be a signature of fascism?

              • AristotleAristotle says:

Fascism is a right wing phenomenon. Since working class parties are stronger in Europe, Fascism throws them some bones that America’s right wing never would do, but that doesn’t move them anywhere near the center, let alone the left.

It’d be a nice change of story for you leftists…..you know something other then beating your brains out day after day trying to defend a President who won’t stand up to defend his own record.

Also, do you think Obama is deep down embarrassed that he’s had to follow his campaign strategists and consultants.

No one, including me back in early 2009, ever thought it could be this bad, truly this bad. At nearly every inflection point Obama has failed to lead and when he did try he lied, deceived or used absolutely missed the mark due to spiteful and partisan staff hacks focused only on delivering political favors to campaign backers.

    • ClubTwittyClubTwitty says:

how frustrating it must be to have such a terrible candidate that Romney still can’t take a lead.

God, that must hurt to throw it away like this.  If only little Ricky or big Ricky would have taken the nomination!  Or maybe the Newt!

Just like 2010…in CO..a big GOP year nationally and yet your party picked such awful candidates you lost–decisively–both Marquee races.  God, it must suck so bad to be you.

        • Duke Coxdukeco1 says:

once Mitt is forced to divulge his tax returns his run tanks.

Joe 6-pack has gotta have a hard time buying into this silver-spooned arrogant asshole’s tax breaks for the wealthy paid for by we the people once there is proof of years & years that he didn’t pay any.

Is Barron hoping for a white knight at the convention (and at the GOP con it’s a white night every night)?  Rush would choke on his Oxycon if he had to give up Rmoney this late in the game.

        • Libertad says:

And to Twitty …. I’d make more money if Obama remained as President. However, I am having to consider strategy options should Romney win. Of course there are upsides too.

If Romney wins he’ll be straight with the people I hope (I thought Obama would be too, he wasn’t) and that will result in the truth being told, understood and acted on my Americans.

We’ve promised ourselves too many government handouts that we can’t pay for, we’ve become lazy and government dependent.

If Obamas campaign cash and constituencies fail him he could lose this race, and yes I’m am now admitting that Romney could win. If Romney leads like the inspired leaderAmerica thought they voted to President in 2008, he could be a 2 termer.

If Romney wins he’ll be straight with the people I hope (I thought Obama would be too, he wasn’t) and that will result in the truth being told, understood and acted on my Americans.

If there is one thing RMoney is known for, its being straight up and honest.  About what he thinks any given group wants to hear at any given time, and as long as it doesn’t involve having to answer questions to ‘You People’!

We’ve promised ourselves too many government handouts that we can’t pay for, we’ve become lazy and government dependent.

Like a $70,000 tax write off for horse dancing?  Perhaps upping the handouts to the MIC?

Alas for poor Barron and others–and since I love comedy I truly hope I am wrong–I think you are stuck with Willard.  I agree that Ham Rove can still do some damage, so we’ll see.  Good thing I’m an FPE…

            • BlueCat says:

First, the days of dramatic conventions that are anything other than choreographed coronations are long gone. Second, if it turns out he’s paid nothing in taxes for most of the past 10 years, that will just make him a hero to the convention. Way to screw the (we the people) Guv’mint!

As to how our economic problems can be solved by people having their tax rate of nothing lowered even more or why we aren’t already awash in jobs since their tax burden (at least for those in Romney’s income bracket who pay some taxes) is already at historic lows, just ask Karl Rove about the role of objective reality in GOP policy.

            • parsingreality says:

Meant to also say that that exact attitude is why Hoover refused to help with what was known at the time as “relief.”

He was fine with giving money to large corporations to make stuff…….that no one could afford to buy.

Something about repeating history because one is a fucking idiot.

    • parsingreality says:

…..bring lasting peace to the Middle East, find a cure for cancer, and homes for every single lost puppy dog and you and your ilk would insist he hasn’t done anything.

Whatever Obama hasn’t accomplished is due to the Rethuglican obstructionism of the like that Congress has probably never seen.  Certainly not in my lifetime.

Howz that jobs bill coming along?  Never mind…….

  3. DavidThi808DavidThi808 says:

    {Libby – notice I start a new comment and don’t thread jack.}

Yes Obama has done a piss-poor job of improving the economy. And yes that is not due solely to Republican obstruction.

But Romney would be worse. Much worse. It’s not Obama vs. other. It’s Obama vs Romney. And on the economy mediocre beats terrible.

    • Libertad says:

He’s failed to lead and that trumps his failed policies and horrible outcomes.

When those in the big tent have seen their paychecks dry up or exit stage left, they too will not show up to vote for more of the same.

Speaking of more Democrat failures eg Occupy Movement …. has anyone picked up on the Chick Fil A thing.

Where else in the world would a) the president of a chicken restaurant chain feel it was within his remit to publicly endorse “the traditional family,” b) liberal mayors totally overreact by trying to stop his business’ expansion, c) a former presidential candidate declare an “appreciation day” for the restaurant, and d) hundreds of people actually show up to eat there in solidarity?

The whole scenario seems so preposterous as to be contrived, which makes me wonder if it was a brilliant sales gimmick. Yet, we have no reason to doubt the strength of Cathy’s faith and, after all, Chick-fil-A isn’t the only company with a taste for Christian witness. Norm Miller, chairman of Interstate Batteries, discusses his faith on his company’s website and offers advice on prayer.

Jumping the gap between a US and UK high school education

Tomorrow, my 16 year old daughter is leaving her home in the US for the UK. She’ll be there for the next two years while she studies for her A levels.  It was a heart-rending decision for my wife and I to agree to her living apart from us in a different country.  But the stark reality is that my daughter’s high school education here is just not good enough to prepare her for a British University – and in two years’ time, that’s where she wants to be.

How many variants will “Hotmail” go through.  All that “Live” stuff, way too confusing for me to grasp.  But, wait, that’s now history, too.

Apple/Jobs is/was great at naming simplicity and then sticking with it.

The tech and culture web site Boing Boing has had a few posts about 3D printed products recently:

Popular Science’s John Robb reports on a person who claims that his 3D-printed pistol can successfully fire live ammunition, though not with total reliability. The same person then went on to print a working AR-15 rifle (this is a substantial advance on last year’s account of a 3D printable AR-15 automatic conversion kit). This event has raised something of a crisis for Thingiverse, the online repository for 3D printable meshes, which is contemplating whether it will host files that can be printed into “weapons.”

    http://boingboing.net/2012/07/

A hacker at HOPE presented a pair of 3D printed “high security” handcuff keys that unlocked cuffs whose designs are supposed to be secret and not widely available. They will shortly be on Thingiverse for you to download.

Apparently there weren’t enough reporters available, so the Post editors dipped into the steno pool to cover a story on Romney’s energy plan (an oil rig in every backyard!)

Today’s DP (print version) had a front page article titled “Romney’s energy plan could fuel job growth, local economists say”.  But since they only quoted one actual local economist, the article left unstated whether he had a mouse in his pocket, or has Multiple Personality Syndrome.  They changed the headline on the online version (nice of them)

Nevertheless, stenographer Aldo Svaldi diligently recorded the Republican talking points — including the one about how loosening of drilling restrictions would create thousands of jobs!

Just think, if you had your own back yard drilling rig, your little tykes wouldn’t need a swing set or jungle gym.  And they could learn a useful skill as a roustabout.  By the time they got to be 10 or 12, they could join the job pool (once Mitt gets rid of those pesky child labor laws, further boosting our competitiveness with offshore sweatshops!).

Other Republican talking points faithfully transcribed were that Small business owners are all universally considered Rich!  Thus no matter your income, profit or loss, YOUR TAXES WILL GO UP!  Not just on anything you pay yourself above $250k.  Remember, you heard it here first.

And according to the economist (Michael Englund — who?), had Obama simply addressed long-term entitlement commitments, fiscal balance would have been restored WITHOUT PAINFUL SPENDING CUTS OR TAX INCREASES (jeez, why didn’t we think of that?).

Follow the link, and see for yourself if I’ve exaggerated or not.

but you can’t just blame the poor non-reporters.  The editors have to let it by.

If print news isn’t going to have superior standards at a time when you can get what’s breaking any time you look at any one of any number of common devices, then we can stop worrying about how tragic it will be when all the newspapers die.

Very disappointing after they showed us what they were really good at in the wake of the theater shootings but even a broken clock has the right time twice a day.
