Interesting Job Listings

I make a habit of perusing political job listings since it gives a good idea of what the activist community is prioritizing. Up until earlier this year, the bulk were for fundraisers leavened with pleas for web developers, data analysts and other tech types. That makes sense as organizations modernize their operations and money is always tight. Either business is massively expanding over time, or many of these groups are not very fun to work for since there’s often repeat listings from the same people at regular intervals.

Since it’s an election year, there’s been a recent influx of groups looking for field organizers and other campaign staff. That’s natural. Btw, if you’re college age, expect at least 3 relatively unfamiliar youth-vote groups to be very insistent that you register to vote.

One job recently caught my eye. Better Schools for a Stronger Colorado is hiring organizers to work as paid canvassers on state legislative races in the Denver metro area. I wasn’t familiar with the group and I looked it up.

Better Schools for a Stronger Colorado is a 527 group that describes itself as “a coalition of  business leaders and education reform advocates” and is affiliated with Stand for Children. It seems to largely advocate for charter schools and voucher programs, though I wasn’t able to find a BSSC web presence outside of Stand’s information. Colorado’s TRACER information indicates that they haven’t received or expended any funds in the current cycle, so either these paychecks are going to bounce or there’s some shadowy funding going on.

Anyhow, I thought I would post a heads up that the voucher crowd is jumping into legislative races this election in case anyone was worried about next session’s round of education reform fireworks.
