Union Busting in Douglas County

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

On Sept.5, the Douglas County Board of Education passed a resolution to no longer negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with the teachers’ union, the DCF. This is just one more example of the nationwide Republican plan to break public employee unions. Some time ago the union asked the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to intervene in the dispute, but so far they have done nothing.  So the time has come to tell Gov. John Hickenlooper to direct the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to intervene in the dispute as the union has requested.

That’s why I created a petition to Governor John Hickenlooper, which says:

“Gov. Hickenlooper, It is time for you to take a stand for workers’ rights by ordering the Colorado Dept. of Labor and Employment to intervene in the dispute between the Douglas County School Federation of Teachers and the DCSD Board of Education, and put an end to their union-busting tactics.”

    1. Interesting though, the district is getting along with the drivers union and some other union.

Interesting too that the other unions didn’t freakout and strike or otherwise disrupt DougCo schools in solidarity.

  1.

when I see it. Hick is a republican, as far as I can tell. I hope he proves me wrong.

    1. state law gives political subdivisions the authority to vote to not negotiate with a union or with all unions. I have negotiated 6 contracts; 3 each with 2 unions. It is hard work, but it was a very respectful process most of the time. When it wasn’t we got past that pretty readily. But, most of the organization I represented was not afraid to talk with our employees and I believe that collective bargaining should be a right of employees

    2. If he’s anything. There doesn’t seem to be any there, there, is there? About a week ago (I’m too bushed from spading up a patch of garden to get ready to plant spring bulbs to look it up, sorry) the Denver paper had a glowing op-ed by the Hick and his lieutenant praising the DougCo school board. Hick’s a voucher zombie.

  2. As of Sunday morning, we have 340 signatures.  It will remain up all day today.  With a little luck, we may just crack 500 by tonight.  I will  personally deliver them to the Governor’s office on Monday.
