The article and supporting graphs are okay, but read all the comments to understand the simmering underbelly.  We are in trouble.

    Dodge debt and obligation…

Norton seeks $476K in debt relief

Former U.S. Senate candidate Jane Norton is asking the federal government to absolve her of hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign debt.

    …and responsibility.

“I ran the campaign for about 100 days, and took the reins at a time the campaign was hemorrhaging unpaid invoices and was free-falling in the polls,” Penry said via text messaging while on his honeymoon in Mexico.

I thought that guy was married forever ago.

And why would he voluntarily choose to vacation in a foreign country so dangerous as Mexico? We have awesome beaches and resort areas right here in the USA.  Is it possible he’s been abducted and this was really his only way to call for help?

Jane Norton?  Wanting to blow off the debt?  I’m surprised that this is how she interprets her church’s prosperity theology.  I can almost understand the snakes and languages and stuff (it’s in the Bible)  but avoiding personal debt and responsibility as the path to financial prosperity?  How is that any different from stealing?

Look, you provide goods and services to me now, even lend me money, and later, I’ll get a judge to say I don’t have to pay.  It’s ok because God wants me to be rich.

I was doing it all wrong.

Is this going to be like Rush on Friday?

GOPers are picking up more converts to block Susan Rice’s nom.  Same Repugs are pretty vocal in saying J Kerry nom would sail thru … what gives?

GOP thinks if Kerry takes it then they weaken Dems in Senate (what committees does he chair?).  Would it push MA into a special election (giving Scott Brown another run?) or just weaken the state Dems?  Wtf does Maine’s Susan Collins have against Rice?  Collins now out there dredging up African embassy attacks ftom the late 90′s — unfounded criticism but enough get Faux f*ckheads nattering about (doesn’t take much).

This is pathetic.  Same GOP bullshit, diffrrent day.

  6. Gray in Mountains says:

she is willing to leave hanging. Small business folks I’ll bet. She isn’t dead yet. She can get a job or borrow from her family

  7. Diogenesdemar says:

“And, forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors . . .”

Sheesh, how long has it been since you attended services?  Today, having your own “personal” savior is even better than having a “personal” concierge.

  8. PitaPita says:

that Norton does blame Penry for running up the debt.  Evidently the Sentinel reporter had the same information or why disturb Penry on his honeymoon. Not, I suspect, that Penry cared.  He loves the attention.

post a quoted paragraph, give or take, or at least a brief description of the subject matter on offer via the link. With nothing to go on but your recommendation, I’ll pass.

  11. MADCO says:

Is “services” some kind of sly euphemism?

Cause  the way I understand it is it’s my soap and my shower and I wash whatever I want for as long as I want. Or have any willing adult help.

As for prayerly services- all the time…

Our Papa, who art a Bear,

    hallowed be thy fame,

    Thy championship come,

    Thy play be run,

At home as it is away,

Give us this day our Sunday win,

    And forgive us our turnovers,

As we pounce on those who turnover against us,

And lead us not into fourth and long,

    But deliver us from Krenzel

    For thine is the trophy

    And the ring

    And the glory, forever

    In the name of,

    Butkus, Singletary

    and the Holy Payton.

Well – at least until February 12 when the Castillo, Clevenger, Navarro and some other guys show up.

than a coincidence that Repugs are now all lovey-dovey about Kerry, the same Kerry they so enjoyed swift boating back in 2004, now that his taking SOS would give their recently defeated boy in Mass another chance to take back a Senate seat for Rs.

Also, weren’t all these Rs just fine with Condi for SOS after her rather nuclear melt down failure in advising Bush, while she was NSA for God’s sake, to blow off the infamous Bin Laden memo as nothing, mere “historic” insignificant info? And didn’t she go on to insist that if we didn’t act immediately against Iraq the smoking gun could well be a mushroom cloud?  And wasn’t that all tragically wrong and, as NSA, wasn’t it her job to get it right? How many thousands of Americans died as a result of those little errors?

You’d think the people who consider Susan Rice’s mistake so heinous would have been exponentially more appalled by Condi’s and more dead set against her becoming SOS. You’d think they would have been calling for her resignation and banishment.

The Tale of the Two Rice’s and One Kerry is certainly an interesting one.

    sounds close enough-

    plus:

… her portrayal of McCain during 2008, which no doubt contributes to McCain’s hostility toward her today. She mocked McCain’s trip to Iraq (“strolling around the market in a flak jacket”), called his policies “reckless” and said “his tendency is to shoot first and ask questions later. It’s dangerous.”

…she denounced as “counterproductive” and “self-defeating” the U.N. policy that Iran suspend its nuclear program before talks can begin. She criticized President George W. Bush and McCain because they “insisted” on it.

In other words- Susan Rice has made a career of pissing people off – including President Senator McCain.

There is however a more Occamish  explanation.

    Uppity bitch .

  14. BlueCat says:

everything tends to be personal but all the other Rs on the “Down with Rice. We Love Kerry for SOS” bandwagon?

I personally don’t care about Susan Rice getting to be SOS. The times I’ve seen her on TV I’ve found her to be abrasive and charmless, not exactly my idea of what makes a great diplomat so I’m not objecting to the nonsense as an advocate. It’s the level of phony hysterical denunciation from the right that I object to. Whatever their real reasons for opposing her so emphatically, the reasons they’re citing are absurd.

PS: I successfully embedded once.  In fact I think it was a Rachel Maddow video. But I never got it to work again. We’re not dumb. Just a little retro.
