Congrats to President Obama
And here’s hoping the last couple of months continue, successfully selling your program to the American people.
Right on! We’re winning the fight, all but a few GOPer dead-enders don’t know it.
Colin Powell and Joe Scarborough really laid it out for the Pubs this morning…time to make a choice for reason over fear… it’s your message…not your messengers.
Saw some excerpts – good stuff.
They’re right, of course. Republicans would be in the minority in the House right now if it weren’t for partisan gerrymandering. Given the current lines, Democrats would have to have a nationwide 7+% to gain a House majority. That’s all that is keeping Republicans in any position of power whatsoever – and they’re doing it with some of their most extreme members running the show.
If the GOP doesn’t dial back the ultra-conservative rhetoric at least to “Reagan” they’re going to run themselves out of the majority forever.
Before we get too happy, those dead-enders are attempting an end run by changing the way electoral votes are assigned in states that have more gerrymandered R HDs and R majorities in state legislatures but go for Dem Presidential candidates, such as PA.
They are trying to get those legislatures to change to a system where, for instance, the winner of the state in PA gets 2 electoral votes and the remainder of the electors are chosen by HD. If they had done this before the last election in all the states which they are targeting for this kind of change now, it would have resulted in a slim electoral win for Romney.
This is very scary . Just as we now have an R majority House even though many more voters voted for D Reps, we could also have an R President next time in spite of a substantial majority vote for the Dem both nationwide and in states that would nonetheless elect a majority of R electors to the electoral college.
Apparently, Rs aren’t finished trying to figure out ways to win elections as a minority party and without making any real changes to appeal to minorities and women. If you can’t attract minority votes just by putting minority faces on your programs and you can’t suppress the minority voters sufficiently to win elections, change the system so you don’t need majorities to win the House or the Presidency. If they accomplish this, we won’t find ourselves crowing about anything in 2016. Dems will be fighting a desperate battle in which they will have to win by much more in order to win at all.
PS I hate this new format. On the plus side, I won’t be so tempted to spend so much time here as it’s now a huge pain in the ass. Buttons for quote box and bold, gone. Easy way to check on replies to my comments gone. I like to answer people when they challenge me but not enough to sift through every thread and every comment for the past few days.
Apologies to anyone who may think I’m ignoring a challenge. It’s just not convenient anymore. I see I can sign up to be notified by e-mail of follow up comments but I get too many e-mails as it is. This change will no doubt allow me to get lots more done, though, so…ummm…thanks Colpols?
Blue Cat, I agree that the new site seems less user friendly but I hope you’ll continue to be around often
Sheesh. It’s not THAT much less user friendly. YOu can still read shit and comment on it. As someone who lurks and has occasional long gaps between visits, I’d like what BC is asking for too. I’m going to look for WordPress plugins I like and make a suggestion to Pols rather than whining about how much I liked Soapblox. Soapblox was getting kinda dated if you ask me.
Sorry about the whining. I’ll still participate but I’m not going to spend time going through stuff to make sure I’m replying to everyone who replies to me. So if you don’t hear back from me on something I’m not ignoring you on purpose, that’s all. And honestly, maybe you’ll appreciate me more if I’m not always here shooting my mouth off and posting endless come backs. Or at least be less sick of me! I can think of several who will be delighted with less BlueCat. 🙂
I agree.
Where is that user’s manual I was promised?
Why are some title bars grays and others red?
Will we ever get a “3 new” next to the number of comments on the diary?
How ’bout some instructions for the html illiterate in bolding, block quoting, and linking in your text that was so easy before.
Waiting on that “preview” button as well.
Absolutely. It’s called Apartheid. The changing landscape of the nation was there at the Inauguration for all to see.
Redlegs never cease the “I want my country back” gerbal drivel. But the fact is, the way the country “used to be” was segregated, small minded, uneducated, more than 50% white, and fearfull of minorities. The red base is shrinking it’s aging, its’ core principles of fear and intimidation fueled by ignorance and laziness are being left behind by the young generations, and the professionals, the people whose business is to win elections, see the next 25 years as transformative.
When you see a power grab like the copperheads pulled in the evenly divided Virginia State Legislature yesterday, where in the absence of a Democratic legislator, excused to attend the inauguration, a new redistricting format was introduced and adopted, you know the pinkos are at what’s called the “Alamo position”.
Bluecat’s absolutely correct. Unless this “redmapping” is put to a legal test, there will be enough states with redleg majorities to undermine the eletoral process.
Had Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, states that are now under pinko regimes implemented this splitting of the electoral votes, scumney would have stolen the election in spite of being out voted by 5 million votes. And that’s with millions of Democratic voters disinfranchised in Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and even, to a lesser extent, here.
Make no mistake, they are trying it.
Attention all TV news people
Great human interest story that gives great video. The Windward Code War is this Saturday. Most of the top C.S. Universities world-wide are participating. And you can get great film of the final at C.U., Mines, or CSU (like this).
Positive story of college students in an academic contest. It would be nice to see that to balance out the ones of drunken riots.
Any news/pictures from the Marade?
