CBS-4 Denver Calls Republicans Out on Misleading Ad Against Udall

( - promoted by Colorado Pols)

[First, a cheap plug for my blog Senate 2008 Guru: Following the Races.]

Kudos to CBS-4 Denver for actually engaging in some diligent journalism, calling out the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) for their hackneyed ad against Congressman Mark Udall, noting the ad's lies and half-truths by the GOP regarding Udall's record on taxes.  Excerpts include (emphasis added by me):

AD: HAVING UDALL IN CONGRESS IS TAXING IN 1999 HE VOTED FOR HIGHER TAXES BY 792 BILLION DOLLARS

Reality Check Begins

The claim is false. He didn't vote to raise taxes, he voted against a tax cut passed by a Republican Congress and vetoed by President Clinton. While critics say Udall's vote had the same effect as supporting higher taxes, the fact remains, Udall voted to maintain the status quo, which is not the same as voting for a tax hike. ...

The ad also fails to mention that Udall voted for two modest tax cut measures offered by Democrats as an alternative to the Republican bill. ...

AD: OVER 1.3 TRILLION IN 2001 AND 350 BILLION IN 2003 HIGHER TAXES ON MORE THAN 1.7 MILLION COLORADANS

The claim that Udall voted against those tax relief measures is true. Udall thought it was too much tax relief going to the wealthy. But he did agree with some of it, and voted for a democratically sponsored amendment that offered a much more scaled back tax cut.

I know, I know. You're as shocked as I am that the NRSC would stoop to misleading voters on Democrats' voting records. But it happens. Kudos to CBS-4 Denver for their diligence.

Pols one sided as ever
Where is your headline concerning the misleading comments that KCNC suggested were done to Musgrave from the day before?

Why don't you write something about it?
If it's well-written like this was, we'll promote it to the front page like we did here. Though the Musgrave Reality Check doesn't appear to contain the words "this claim is false," which is a little more compelling than "her critics have less to talk about on this issue, but Congresswoman Musgrave isn't bullet proof."

right wingers one sided as usual
I'll second what Pols said in their response.

"The fact that we Dems can't rebuild the house does not mean you bring back the [Republicans] who burned it down." - DavidThi808

TAX AND SPEND LIBERAL
Bob Schaffer will have no problem defending his votes in Colorado!  Mark "Tax and Spend/Boulder Liberal" will have a difficult time defending his votes outside of the metro area.  Great ad!

Of course,...
...right wingers like you don't understand the difference between truth and facts, and idiology.

The American public is catching on fast to the "don't tax but keep spending more than the Dems ever did" Republican policy.

You need to catch up with reality, hoser.

Actually, he will
Udall is connected with the dems who balanced the budget during the 90's. BS is connected with deficit (tax cut and spending increase) lover republicans. All Udall and 527's have to do, it point this out. The reaganesqe deficit is going to haunt the republicans on the next election. In fact, all Udall has to do, is support the dems idea of "pay as you go" and it will already show that they are 2 levels above republicans.

I prefer the "u" in honour as it seems to be missing these days.

A tax and spend "liberal" would be an improvment...
...compared to the spend and spend so-called "conservatives".  Cost of the Iraq war: up to $444 BILLION as of today.

The democratic "pay as you go" approach would be a huge improvement to this deficit that we're in now.

My god
that argument is old, empty and frankly dumb.  Borrow and spend policies by the white house have sunk this country into unprecedented debt, padded the accounts of their contractor buddies on the backs of ordinary americans, but hey, we didn't raise taxes ! We aren't tax and spend libruls like that Mark Udall!

How stupid do people have to be to believe that old piece of shit argument anymore?  Our kids are going to be paying for W's fiscal mismanagement for a long time.  Better tell them to brush up on their Chinese.  Say hi to General Zhang, he owns half your country !

That's the point
those people don't care about this country, they care about profits over people. It's disgusting to think about. They believe they can absolve themselves of all their sins by washing themselves in the flag, while their flushing this country down a chinese made toilet.

made you look
This entry was promoted by Pols, not written by Pols.  Just like the entry detailing the Republican Lincoln Day dinner was promoted by Pols, not written by Pols.  You lose.

[ Parent ]
LOL
"You lose."

I love it!

[ Parent ]
Not really
It is an indictment of the private education systems that so many republicans are incapable of reading and applying logic (not really, but heh, connecting the dots in a republican way is kind of fun).

I prefer the "u" in honour as it seems to be missing these days.

It's the Carl Sagan school of political commercials...
Simply replace "billions and billions of stars" with "billions and billions of dollars" and people will be overcome with wonder and awe, the makers of the commercial believe.
