Jennifer Kerns states, "No," [not from CA] "lives and works in CO"

(Promoted by Colorado Pols)

This Sunday morning on MSNBC the program "Up with Steve Kornacki" profiled Colorado and the recalls of Morse and Giron where Kornacki brought in a panel that included Jennifer Kerns. Link to the program here: At the 6 min mark Kornacki begins to introduce Kerns after the Denver Post's reporter, Curtis Lee, gave the segment a basic background of the local situation and political landscape. Then Kornacki goes to introduce Kerns, now the head and chief spokesperson for the euphemistically titled group: "Basic Freedom Defense Fund" leading the recall effort.

at 6:27 mark of the first segment when she was introduced

Kornacki: "You are not from CO, you came to CO for the recall, is that right?"

Kerns: "No, I live and work in Colorado." [emphasis mine]

Kornacki: "Okay I completely read that wrong."

Interestingly a quick visit to Kerns' Linked In Page (link here, titled curiously as K Street Kerns) self describes her professional self as:

Jennifer Kerns; Political and Public Affairs Executive, SACRAMENTO CALIFORNIA, [emphasis mine], Current: Political Consultant, Previous: California Republican Party, Education: University of Oklahoma. Going deeper to K Street Communications, her company:

Maybe it just is me but why does an obvious political hired gun have to lie on Television about who she is and where she from unless she is a serial liar?

  1. Now I may be way out of line with this next comment, but here goes:

What would it take to outlaw out-of-staters from engaging in the crap such as Kerns is doing?  Maybe making it a criminal offense or a very heavy civil fine?

    Just asking.

  2. I don't think you can, or that we would want to, make it illegal for someone from another state to take a job here.  That the Recall effort is freaked out about 'New York!" and 'Chicago' and then has to have its SPOKESPERSON (i.e. cheif communicator) lie on national TV says a lot however about this effort and about today's GOP ethics.  Her twitter handle is @CApartygirl.  I have come to expect Colorado Republicans to lie.  Remember, its not the platform voters object to–they say–but the way they say it.  IOWs, they need to lie better and bullshit better and confuse voters more about real intentions and beliefs. Reince and GOP operatives know that women, young people, etc. will continue fleeing their party in droves if they actually keep letting our elected officals say what they really think.  Ergo, she is from Colorado she has always been from Colorado and Colorado has NEVER I repeat NEVER been at war with Eurasia.  2+2=5, double plus good!

      1. She could be registered in both CO and CA, and it would not necessarily be illegal. Many people move to a new state, register to vote, and never bother to notify their previous state to take them off the voting rolls. It would be illegal, of course, to vote in both states, but few people intend to do that (thus the very rare cases of such voter fraud).

My question was to establish the strength of her Colorado claim. Has she been doing all this California political work while a Colorado resident all the time? If so, did she represent or imply she was a California resident? Or has she just recently established her residence in Colorado and thus given up legal residence in California although her company and her work for years has been in California (and her Twitter handle is still CAPartyGirl)? And in addition to claiming she is a Colorado resident, did she register to vote in Colorado? There are several scenarios that are legal. I would just like the details to assess her honesty. She–like the other leaders of the recall– has no claim, of course, to either SD 1 or 3.

  3. It may be legal for out-of staters to run local (anti)-election campaigns, but that doesn't mean it's not scuzzy. I really hope Morse and Giron aren't to scrupulous to exploit it. Is this effort so beyond the pale that they couldn't find a local company willing to stake its reputation on the effort? This all reminds me of the Amendment 2 campaign back in '92. They were outlanders, too, until they found a sufficiently receptive audience in South Central Colorado to make them want to take off their coats and stay a while.

    1. The ads write themselves – or should. "Out of state moneyed interests behind efforts to recall Colorado legislators."  "California's Proposition 8 spokeswoman leads the charge to oust local senator."

Because in the end this isn't a local thing – it's being driven by national interests.

      1. Beautiful, Phoenix! Get those spots to Morse's and Giron's defenders quick! I'd love to see this effort blow up on the gun-nuts like Wiley Coyote being yanked off that cliff with his own rope.

        1. If Morse and Giron's campaigns can't figure out that the three most effective things in fighting the recall are:

          1. Attacking the recall supporters
          2. Attacking the appropriateness of using a recall, and
          3. Proving all of the good things they've done for their district and their state

… then they're not going to listen to me say it.

    2. Because, with typical it's not techinically a lie logic, she probably means, "renting an apartment for a few months while I spearhead a bogus recall based on falsehoods" .. because no one asked, "is your legal residence in Colorado"? etc etc……

You know, like, the "I did not have sex with that woman" kinda lie….. you understand that, right?

      1. In this case, she did probably lie – unless she's moved here permanently and didn't come to Colorado to run the recall.

The question was – you're from out of town, and came here to run the recall, right?

She answered with at best an evasion.
