The Denver Post's Lynn Bartels:
A Denver judge made official Wednesday at 9:24 a.m. what House Speaker Mark Ferrandino has known in his heart for a year: Lila is his daughter.
In Courtroom 2H, Juvenile Court Judge Karen Ashby approved the adoption of the 20½ -month-old, recognizing Ferrandino and his partner of nearly 13 years, Greg Wertsch, as her legal parents.
"There is not one definition of what a family does look like and should look like," Ashby said.
We'll add our congratulations to Speaker Mark Ferrandino and his lovely family.

Congratulations Mark and Greg!
Congratulations! What a beautiful family.
Congrats to the family! Is this something made possible with the new civil union laws? There are so many children out there who would love to be adopted by a loving family and am glad Colorado's laws are moving towards love and compassion.
Adoption by same gender couples is not new in Colorado but it varies by county and by adoption agency – some are fully accepting of same gender couples for children seeking permanent homes, and some do not.
But wouldn't adoption, without marriage or civil union, have to be simply adoption by one of the parties?
There's been a process in Colorado for "second parent adoption," allowed by C.R.S. 19-5-203, in which one parent of a same gender couple adopts the child then the second parent petitions the court to also adopt the child as second parent. Court forms etc here.
Cool
Wonderful. Happy parenting.
This is really neat.
Congrats to the family. I feel really sorry for people who look at this picture and see people condemned to eternal torment in hell. Grown ups, no less. It's mind boggling. If current trends continue that attitude will very soon be as out-dated as belief in the efficacy of human sacrifice for religious purposes.
If we could just shrink that group of people until it's small enough to drown in a bathtub, I'd be satisfied.
Eternal torment in hell?
Ooooh, she's cute now, but wait til she gets a crush on that 22 year-old, never-worked-a-day-in-his-life "boy" down the block that rides up and down the street doing wheelies on his 13-inch-wheels bicycle and still lives in his folks' basement (when he's not kicked out for running up a $900 phone bill to Jamaica, which happens periodically).
Gay marriage, gay adoption: I'm telling you gay folks, it's a trap.
