Brophy accuses Tancredo of "writing books"

(Tom Tancredo, intellectual? – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Tom Tancredo (left) vs. Greg Brophy (right).
Tom Tancredo (left) vs. Greg Brophy (right).

The Denver Post's Lynn Bartels took us down the GOP-Nightmare-Memory-Loop in an article yesterday pointing out that Sen. Greg Brophy endorsed former Congressman Tom Tancredo in 2010, calling him a "selfless hero," but now Brophy says Tancredo is "unprepared" to be governor.

Asked by Bartels to explain his change, Brophy said:

"He was our best choice in 2010, so I worked really hard for him and lent him my credibility," Brophy said. "No matter how much of an optimist I am, I know not to back a loser twice."

Discussing Bartels' article yesterday morning on KNUS' newly retreaded Dan Caplis Show (7-9 am), Brophy expanded on his comments to Bartels:

Caplis: How can you say he’s unprepared now, when you thought he was well-prepared two years ago.

Brophy: I guess that’s in comparison to a guy like me who has experience running his own small business and current experience working on the policy issues that really matter to the people of Colorado. So it’s a comparison of preparedness, and compared to me, frankly, he’s not ready to debate the issues of the day, because these are things I’ve been working on for the last half-dozen years, and he’s been writing books [BigMedia emphasis].

Listen here to Brophy explain why Tancredo is no longer prepared to be governor

Writing books! Can you believe it? The horror!

For the record, and Caplis should clarify on air, if you know Tancredo, you know he hasn't been bunkered down writing books over the past "half-dozen years," while Brophy was out riding his bike and battling the left.

To start with, Tancredo has written only one measly book, Hating America:: The Left's Long History of Despising (And Slowly Destroying) Our Great Country with Phil Ross (2013). It sounds like fiction, which is easy to write, plus he's got a co-author, which could have reduced Tanc's time spent writing to near zero.

Second, if you know Tancredo, you know he's been rushing from microphone to microphone over the past half dozen years, and for a while he actually had his own Colorado Springs talk-radio show, complete with microphone, giving him plenty of time to polish his debating skills.

Overall, if you review Tancredo's last six years, it looks like he's been running for office constantly, including running for president. And that's not counting all the years he spent running for office when he was in Congress.

Tanc's book is a throwaway, in more ways than one. You can say a lot about Tancredo, but it's inaccurate to say he's been writing books over the past six years, isolating himself, ivory-tower-like, from the debate.

    1. But. I am addicted to my addiction….Davie.  I love right wing talk radio…although I do not do it the honor of capitaling it.   There is always something going on…personalities, fighting, on the dullest times, at least you can pick up on the latest talking points….and listen to them reverberate across all the shows.

The very little progressive talk radio there is, I am so sorry, GLO, can be very predictable…and no fighting and yes. sometimes, boring..its focus on issues and facts, etc.  And, as for you guys, even Elliot is suave and civil…and David is reduced to repeating Russian videos…for gods's sake…

      1. Dwyer is right about LOCAL conservative talk shows. Some of them are boring, but some are unpredictable, even informative. There's disagreement, conflict, intrigue, tragedy, everything you want from political entertainment. Grassroots Rado Colorado (560AM KLZ from 5-7 p.m.) is a good bet. Caplis' new show on KNUS 710-AM from 9-11 am looks promising for political junkies. And there are others depending on your personal taste. Email me if you want a suggestion tailored to your needs.

RE:  newly retreaded Dan Caplis Show (7-9 am),

WHAT!  Caplis started out with a show from 9am to 11am.  Has that changed already?  Is boyles being cut down at the knees to a two hour show?  Has poor petey been doublecrossed by yet "bbf"..this time Captain America?  Inquiring minds want to know.

This is better than the lunchroom in a junior high/middle school!

      1. Happy to let you listen and let us in on what's going on though what you convey is rarely anything other than what one would expect. I'll take your word that there are moments of "disagreement, conflict, intrigue, tragedy" even though I haven't seen much of that here in your posts or dwyer's. Mostly it's just the usual, predictable rightie line. Maybe you could be more on the look out for that kind of thing for the edification of those of us who are non-listeners?

And I completely agree (yes, it's true) with dwyer (there, I said it) about progressive radio. Stopped listening to that years ago due to utter boredom. I listen to music or NPR news radio now.

  2. What? BC? RE: Maybe you could be more on the look out for that kind of thing for the edification of those of us who are non-listeners?   – See more at: http://coloradopols.com/diary/53182/brophy-accuses-tancredo-of-writing-books#comments

Jason should bring to you for your approval and edification snippets from right wing radio because you are too "far too sophisticated " to dain to listen to it yourself????    Shades of Dalton Abby.  ( I spelll it the way I hear it.) One can only conjecture what else you might want your  minions to do for you!  smiley

As for that great education that boomers received……the well educated are not afraid to be confronted with something out of their usual sphere……After all, it was us depression and war babies who brought the world, Elvis, Bill Haley and the Comets, The Everley Brothers, the Platters, and moving right along…Bob Dylan and the Beetles……to say nothing of the brave wonderful heros of the civil rights…..John Lews; the Mississippi martyers; the freedom riders…

And finally, the boomers were born between 1946 and 1964……and baby boy boyles who was born in 1943…(I once tried to find his alledged birth certificate) has suddenly claimed to be one of you boomers….that ought to float  your boat.

    1. First things first.  You keep saying saying Dalton Abbey. I think you mean Downton Abbey. If you ever watched it you'd know that and if you haven't, why do you use it as reference for anything?

Next, I didn't say anything about being too sophisticated. I don't enjoy listening to rightie rant radio or to most dull progressive radio either and I know what they are going to say about almost anything without bothering to. That doesn't require "sophistication" or a sixth sense. They're pretty predictable.

Jason claims some of what he hears on rightie radio is quite surprising but the stuff the two of you repeat here is just what I'd expect.  That's why I expressed interest in the idea of Jason, who already brings us "snippets" of information because he obviously wants to and likes to, as do you, bringing us snippets of some of that surprising stuff he mentioned. I never see anything like that from either of you so it would be interesting. That's all.

I take your accusing me of being a flaky lazy boomer who wants stuff on a silver platter about as seriously as I take your accusing me of being a clueless mindless what me worry cheerleader for the left.

As to the dates of the boomer generation and the fact that Boyles was born in '43, I have no idea what you're getting at there. I don't recall ever calling Boyles a boomer. But then I usually don't have any idea what you think you're talking about in these scolding rants of yours.  But please don't feel obliged to enlightened me. Seriously.  Save yourself the trouble.

      1. @BC

Some of your endearing qualities are your quick ability to spot a spoof, to appreciate even feeble attempts at a joke and to never, never, take yourself too seriously.
