  1. Good Morning Colorado Pols.  Mike Coffman called in to the boyles show, being hosted by perky Julie Hayden and her husband Chuck.  He gave a very detailed analysis of what is happening in Iraq and why.  There may well be a

counter argument.  But, I don't expect to hear it from Romanoff and even if he wanted to respond, where would he do it?  I am a Romanoff supporter.

    1. Oddly,I heard that segment (odd because I almost never got my ears on at that hour).  Pretty sure that show would enjoy having your guy on. Likewise pretty sure it would not go well for him.

i think the point was positioning. One guy understands the world is full of dangerous places and people who would do us harm and one guy you never heard of just wants a political career/job. I don't buy it, but your guy has the uphill battle.

      1. Your attempt to portray Andrew Romanoff as a political opportunist, of whom no one has heard, is pretty funny. It is an indication of your vain hope to somehow convince our readers and posters that Coffman has the upper hand in his upcoming re-election effort.

Your fantasy cannot change the facts.

        1.

He may have mor name recognition than I know. Not so much in my circles.

As for his political aspiration – what else has he done?  Not being facetious – seriously have no idea.  I'm sure he has a website or wiki or something.  But it's not commonly known.

      2. Polls don't show much support for your position. The world would be a much safer place if we had never gone into Iraq for no good reason and destabilized the entire region. Heck, the last Republican administration wasn't even interested in finding Bin Laden in Afghanistan according to GW. Didn't give the guy behind 9/11 much thought, he said.

Good luck blaming the whole thing on those who followed and were given the thankless task of reassembling Humpty Dumpty. Sometimes I wonder if Rs didn't actually want to lose in 2008 because they knew that and wanted a Dem administration stuck with it.

As for Romanoff, he isn't an official candidate yet so he can't be presented quite yet as Coffman's official opponent. But that's OK. When he is the official candidate he'll play very well in CD6. Do you live in it?  I do.

        1. Yes, it is clear Rs wanted to lose in 08.

He has announced (much earlier than last time if I recall), he is fundraising, the DCCC is working him. Romanoff IS the D candidate no matter how anyone wants to spin it.

Not anymore. I didn't move but when the line changed I got booted.

          1. Who says anything about spin? Of course he's running. I'm just saying the status of a not yet official candidate isn't technically the same as the status of an official one. Get a grip, junior.

  2. @mj55

I am sorry I wasn't quick enough to let people know that Victor Head from the Pueblo recall was going to be on 710knus.  He is running for County Clerk and Recorder.  He was very articulate about all kinds of problems he saw with the recall election process and critical of the current Clerk and Recorder. I would have loved to have heard your critique.  Maybe Jason can get a transcript.

Cathy Donahue will be on the show at 8am.  She is an institution in old Denver.

Right now, BC, Davie and et al., this is intelligent talk going on with Julie and Chuck because of the people they are interviewing.  It is not birther crap.

Ken Buck, right now, is discussing his health and his cancer status. He is still in remission. Buck is defending his stand on calling teaparty people "dumb asses" because he feels very strongly that birtherism and impeachment talk is distracting and he would like the teapartiers to drop it.

This is what I would like to hear from democrats….in the same forum….not a timed response.

    1. It would be my suggestion that if birtherism and impeachment is the only dumb-ass stuff Buck hears from his core of tea-party supporters, he might have some other health issues that he's not discussing . . .

        1. No, David, because Buck doesn't believe these two Baggers wet dreams to be untrue; he simply doesn't want to answer any more questions about them, thereby making him look unblanced in front of sane people.

          Political expediency: 1  Morality/Reality: 0

Buck deserves neither pass nor credit here.

        2. In all fairness to you, David, I did not hear today's interview — so I don't know exactly what Mr. Buck said this morning in his defense.  I don't know whether he feels these supporters of his are really (and still) dumb-asses for their beliefs, or whether he's upset they're harshing his electoral buzz.

Personally, I don't care either way.  Buck is an wholly unnacceptable choice for Colorado Senator . . . (or Oklahoma Senator, or even fisheries warden, IMHO) . . . I am not really all that able to join a chorus to celebrate the percentage-chances that he may possibly have some limits upon the depths of his own personal dumb-assery.

Has it come down to this, really?  After having been yanked as a nation so far to the right, you think now we're supposed to look kindly on, and find small solace in, any candidate who's not the worst of all possible of today's knuckledraggers ??? . . .

          Well, then . . . Viva Tancredo!!, I guess.  (At least he's not Ahmadinejad . . . )

            1. Until they get elected and then return true to character and do the bidding of the nutters.

Recall JO's assertion in 2010 that abortion was settled law and in no danger of being restricted, so who cares if Buck won if Andrew lost the nomination to Bennet?

            2. But, walking anything or anyone back is exactly what Buck hasn't done. Show me where he said to anyone that these are nothing but stupid lies, rooted in racism?  Show me anywhere that he's suggested that Republicans might be better served by more fact-based information sources than the fiction spewers on FOX news, or the Boyles show?

Nope, all Byck ever said was that he wished that the dumb-ass birthers would keep their muzzles on when the cameras are recording . . .

. . . seems like more a profile in mendacity, than a profile in courage.  Of course, YMMV.

              1. Exactly. In fact those who advocate not saying what they all really think and intend out loud are more dangerous than those who put it out in the open. They all vote for the same poisonous policies.

As far as Buck goes, though, he can never help putting his foot in it for very long regardless of intentions so not much to worry about there.  The last thing that should be applauded is attempting to hide the reality of what they are from voters by trying to merely sound less extreme.

  3. I know about Victor Head running for the County Clerk seat. His people are already sending vicious emails to  Gilbert "Bo" Ortiz, who has done a fantastic job protecting voting rights of Pueblans over the years.

I would write a diary, but I'm going to have to work until late today, have asked Pols to do it.

Head is supposed to do some kind of presser today – probably the Chieftain will give him glowing reviews, as well as the partner station KRDO.

I'll track funds to see if he's using leftover funds from Pueblo Freedom and Rights, as well as the Magpul funds from Free Colorado, now going to Gun Rights Across America, the group which organized the Capitol rally yesterday.

For sure, Pueblans are now and will continue to rally around Gilbert Ortiz. He has been a professional and unbiased protector of the vote for Pueblo County.

  4. George Brock, Araphoe DA (sp?)  wants legislation for mandatory jail time for drunk driving resulting in death or bodily harm.  Brock is also now on knus.

With the wonderful exception of Cathy Donahue, it has been four hours of Republican talk, and not unintelligent.

We need to get mj55 on with that plumber from Pueblo.

  5. Have noticed slow down in posting comments. The good news is that when I got impatient and hit reply again I got a message  about a double post instead of an actual double post. Wondering if this slow down has to do with enhanced security, possibly as a result of Hawk X being able to return in spite of ban? Anyone else noticing slower posts?

  6. The Republican state legislator who proposed legalizing marijuana in Colorado…in the '70s: R.I.P. Mike Strang. Aspen Times obit:

Longtime Carbondale-area rancher and former Congressman Mike Strang passed away Sunday at his Missouri Heights home of almost five decades.

Strang, 84, passed away from “too many summers,” said his wife, Kit. She said Mike was always fond of an old cowboy’s standard response that he was suffering from too many summers when asked what was ailing him. Mike finally fell victim to it as well, she said…

Mike, a Republican, served in the Colorado Legislature in the early 1970s and raised eyebrows when he introduced a bill to legalize marijuana. It went nowhere but it didn’t harm his political ambitions. Mike successfully ran for U.S. Congress in November 1984 and represented the sprawling Western Slope District that included the Roaring Fork Valley for two years. Ben “Nighthorse” Campbell narrowly defeated him two years later.

Mike, of course, proved to be way ahead of his time on marijuana. Colorado voters approved legalization last year.

Kit said her husband prided himself on being a “citizen politician” rather than a professional politician. “He liked the idea of the landowner who left the farm (to serve in Washington) and then returned,” she said.

    1. He was a remarkable man and a real western gentleman. Perhaps the best real legislating Western Slope congressman since Wayne Aspinall, he ran into the juggernaut of Ben Campbell, back when Campbell was a fresh face and a western Democrat in the old tradition with a remarkable life story of his own. Strant detested idealogues even during his own active years in politics.

    1. I suspect it's only going to get worse. Neither the City Council nor the county commission kept an eye on their appointed airport board, and the chickens are coming home to roost.

  7. former state and U.S. rep mike strang died sunday.   He was a key figure in building our land-use laws.   I put a diary in for anyone who wants detail.

I'll miss him.   The giants are leaving the stage and the Tea Party replacing them.  Icck.
