Nice guy Welker apparently can’t control his urges or reflect for a couple of seconds before hitting the send key. Now, he seems oddly determined to continue at full throttle on his downward spiral. Perhaps someone could politely suggest that crisis management will require more than blathering on about how he didn’t read the racist screed before spamming the rest of the planet with it.
Yet another posterboy for the homophobic and racist redneck’s that are the diehard core of Colorado’s republican base. I saythink that the Dems should leave this seat uncontested until the republicans muster up the moral conviction to replace him themselves. This way we will continue to have occasional reminders of the high moral ideals of the extreme political right.

Joe Jabaily (the candidate who was killed) was running and an Unaffiliated candiate, not a Dem. But it was his existence in the race that drove the Dems not to run anyone and support Jabaily. His death was a tragedy on many levels, both politcial and to his community in general. He was one of the good guys.

Of current D party leadership in the House, we have:
4 of 16 leadership positions filled by racial minorities, as are 5 of the 22 ranking members of the various House committees. Given the current makeup of the caucus, I’d say those were representative numbers.

Thanks for inviting me into your off-topic of Bible/Dobson/War/God. Though in this thread I only talked about the black vote and responding to a very excited George, I’m game. I’ll play along!
1. It is amazing that people follow The Book that is God breathed! Not just amazing but miraculous.
2. Am I for the war? Yes, but not happy that innocent people are dying. But the tyrant needed to be stopped. He has killed many more thousnds intentionally, of his own citizens, compared to our accidental killing in an attempt to free the oppressed.
3. I don’t know Dobson’s feelings. There are a lot of topics I see eye to eye with him, but others I don’t.
4. Does The Bible ban using the name of God to promote your agenda? Actually, God wants you to embrace the truth, His word, and do His will. It’s quite liberating but also very humbling.

Welker did not run opposed in 2004. He ran against a write-in candidate, Pam Howard. She ran against him after the Democratic candidate was killed in a biking accident. She was his former campaign manager.

I find it interesting that the Dems receive nearly 9 out of every 10 black votes, and that a total of 117 blacks have been elected to U.S. Congress (90 Dems and 27 Reps) in history. But when it comes to blacks in leadership positions within the D&C party, it’s nearly non-existent. It’s as if the D&C party allows their vote and then immediately puts them in the corner. “Hey, we’ll give you your social programs and ‘limited’ bits of legislation that suits you, but you want what? A part of the leadership? No, we’ve given you your token leadership posts (Ron Brown, Jocelyn Elders, William Gray and John Clyburn). That’s all until we say so.” It’s almost as if the D&C party is ran like a ….plantation (That was so Hillary-esque). Shameful Dems, just shameful!

As an agnostic, the Biblical condemnation of homosexuality isn’t determinative to me. But people who believe it to be the literal word of God, as Dobson does, have a harder time ignoring Leviticus, Paul, etc. There is a regretable tendency on the left to try to smear as racist anybody who disagrees with any part of their agenda, as Wagtheblog just proved.

Earlier today I read an article where he said, “some of my best friends are of different skin color,” and then referenced a black republican. The next line in the article was like, “that republican said they were friends, but not best friends.” It made me laugh out loud.
I’d challenge wagtheblog to cite a single incident of racism on James Dobson’s part. That would be a violation of the Christian principles he holds dear.

It is preposterous to say that those who “bash” Welker for acting like an idiot are simply haters. It is naive to be so tolerant that one tolerates intolerance. This not only applies to bigots like Welker, but also to fundamentalists of the religious AND political extremes…both left and right. Like it or not, we all need to make room for each other. It is the republicans who have tolerated Welker’s intolerance within their party. Until people like him are not welcome as representatives of the political right, it is fair to assume that he is in some way a representative of the right’s values.

Your personal prejudgements were waaay off base (if they were directed my way). I have never even been to cherry creek. I grew up in a very poor blue collar family on the west slope. Many of my childhood friends were hispanic. My family moved a lot looking for work, and I attended jr.high in Glendale AZ where (as a white boy) I was a minority. My friends were equally hispanic and black…race didn’t matter because we were all so damn poor. Much of my family and extended family is Hispanic or bi-racial….I started college at fort lewis where I fell in love with a Hopi (heartbreaker)and transfered to CSU where the biggest drawback was the Vanila.
Our state, and country for that matter, obviously still have a lot of work to do with issues of race. What people like Welker do is not helpfull. If he were a Dem I would be demanding a resiganation, not defending him by transfering blame to others. The republicans in this state need to do a little housecleaning.
Who cares if the man who wrote the essay is black, the color of his skin does not mean that he has special insights or his opinion is more valid. People of every race say/write/do stupid things all of the time. That does not make them representative of their whole group.

Welker’s forwarding of many racially and ethnically challenged columns are a disgrace to this country, let alone his house district. What is even more disgraceful are the comments in the Loveland Reporter Herald call in line that say he shouldn’t apologize and who believe what was written in that article.
