Gardner Recites Every Fracking Fallacy In The Book

Rep. Cory Gardner (R).
Rep. Cory Gardner (R).

As the Durango Herald's Brandon Mathis reports, GOP U.S. Senate candidate Cory Gardner has got his talking points on energy down pat.

It's total BS, of course, but he's got great delivery:

U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, seeking to unseat incumbent U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, defended hydraulic fracturing as a job creator and said bans of the practice would kill thousands of jobs “overnight” in a visit to Durango on Sunday.

His “all-of-the-above energy policy” relies on fracking. [Pols emphasis]

“If an energy ban were to take place in this state, you would lose 120,000 jobs overnight,” he said. “Twelve billion dollars in economic activity would walk away and $1 billion in tax revenues that builds roads and schools in this state.

Colorado has some of, if not the most, stringent regulations in place. A hydraulic fracturing ban on the ballot would be devastating to our economy.”

As our readers know, there is no statewide "fracking" ban proposed by anyone in Colorado for the 2014 elections. Because there is no statewide ban proposed, there is no danger of Colorado "losing 120,000 jobs overnight"–not to mention that the "120,000 jobs" figure has been inflated to the point of total absurdity. Does Gardner really believe that every gas station in Colorado would close "overnight" if his fictitious "fracking" ban were to pass?

The only thing more frustrating than hearing this nonsense from a "competitive" U.S. Senate candidate is a reporter who reprints it without even two seconds of critical thinking. This issue deserves better. Voters deserve better.

  1. What a tool…

"Colorado has some, if not the most, stringent regulaitons in place."

He, as did the Denver Post, apparently missed the most recent air quality airborne measurements taken in Colorado.

During two days of intensive airborne measurements, oil and gas operations in Colorado's Front Range leaked nearly three times as much methane, a greenhouse gas, as predicted based on inventory estimates, and seven times as much benzene, a regulated air toxic. Emissions of other chemicals that contribute to summertime ozone pollution were about twice as high as estimates.

    1. He is in good company. Two of Colorados' former Governors (Owens and Romer) are striding across the TV screen spouting the same kind of bullshit. Romer sez:  nat gas will lower our carbon footprint…uh, no. Have you ever heard of science governor?

Here's a lil' conundrum…unless I heard wrong, one of those two governors said something about how essential fracking is to oil and gas production (which jibes with my understanding of the process…ALL wells in Colorado get fracked, I think)…and yet, the BLM has approved a proposal from Fram, the Norwegian company that is spudding wells and rigging up for drilling in the Kannah Creek area, that says they are NOT GOING TO FRACK in this field…

      I am, subsequently, perplexed.

        1. Thanks for the link, dave.

Ritters' comments there are pretty commensurate with the majority of Coloradans. I will not put him in the same "cheerleader" category until he sells out to the Oily Boys and starts making commercials for them. There is a difference between answering a question for the Wall Street Journal and being a TV pitchman for the Colorado Petroleum Association….

      1. What  difference a year makes (from August, 2013)

“The industry has to belly up to the bar and hold themselves to a zero tolerance and I think they’ll do it.”

The governor also validated concerns his administration has long dismissed about how close oil and gas operations have moved to neighborhoods when he said: “Oil and gas is an industrial process that none of us want in our backyard.”

  2. We miss you, Joe…

      1. What's his stand on earthquakes?  And how about the using up of our water in a process that includes no recovery? Is he looking forward to the Water Wars (which will be closely associated with Famine Wars) that are going to make the Blood for Oil Wars look like a day at the beach?

Oh wait. He's a conservative Repug which means he has no capacity to think that far ahead (not all that far), not even for the sake of his progeny. Let the grandkids inherit nothing but a brutal, ruthless struggle for short term survival. It won't be his problem. Hey, they'll probably all get raptured anyway. Yeah , that's the ticket.
