Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez is hoping to shake off the many, many, many errors that led to his historically-bad campaign in 2006, but whatever happens in 2014, he now has a friend in infamy.
One of the enduring images of Beauprez's 2006 debacle of a campaign is the candidate himself, standing next to a horse's ass. Beauprez's TV ad was supposed to highlight the "crap" in politics, or something, but it ended up just being a perfectly symbolic image of what was likely the worst statewide campaign in Colorado history.
Down in Arizona, Republican congressional hopeful Gary Kiehne now has his own horse-based campaign ad to rival Beauprez. As the Tucson Weekly reports, Kiehne's new campaign mailer/handout was not copy-edited very well:
Did Kiehne just not see the giant horse penis in the background, or is he trying to tell us something?
We all know what Janet Rowland would think of this. Enjoy!

Ya see boys, Congress is like that giant horse cock behind me, about that long, and ya ALWAYS gotta watch out for it !
While I agree w/ you that BWB’s ’06 campaign was amongst the worst in state history, but how soon you forget about the race run by the GOP’s candidate in ’10.
That's a fair point. We've always struggled with where to put Dan Maes in a historical perspective. Maes was the GOP nominee for Governor, but he was basically on his own and won the Primary by default.
The difference with Beauprez is that he was expected to be a strong candidate, if not the candidate to beat, back in 2005. Maes was a surprise, sure, but for much different reasons.
If Catherine the Great was alive today, she'd probably appreciate this ad.
naughty, that is….
I suspect that the campaign manager's thinking was to use the ad to appeal to rural voters: "We get the nitty gritty ranch life. We understand that animals breed. We stand around in cowboy hats and discuss it at the truck bed."
Kind of like Sarah Palin with her infamous turkey-slaughtering video.
I think the ad is condescending to rural folk. My South Dakota farming relatives do understand the realities of animal birth and death, but they don't put them on display in political ads.
This would be akin to an ad for Hickenlooper or Mayor Hancock, riding on a garbage truck, making homeless men "move on", sweeping up garbage and emptying barrels, etc. Just urban realities.
Beauprez with the horse's ass, posed with the pitchfor, or Ken Buck talking about the "genuine bullshit"on his non-lady type boots, are ridiculous because nobody believes that these candidates actually would let a speck of shit be on their footwear. They are so clearly wealthy country club elitists that their attempts to seem otherwise are pathetically transparent.
I’m suddenly reminded of the “castrating hogs” ad.
