  1. Good morning, sleepyheads. and a beautiful day it is. I noticed at the top of the page one of the ads for "Food for Patriots". If you haven't visited the site, let me be the first to recommend it. Make sure you are prepared for the coming apocalypse…you're gonna get hungry…

  2. A Little over the Top?

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz calls himself a "liberal Democrat who would never vote for Rick Perry," but he's still "outraged" over the Texas governor's indictment Friday on charges of abuse of power and coercion.

The charges are politically motivated and an example of a "dangerous" trend of courts being used to affect the ballot box and politics, he told Newsmax on Saturday.

"Everybody, liberal or conservative, should stand against this indictment," Dershowitz said. "If you don't like how Rick Perry uses his office, don't vote for him."

    1. Meanwhile, at VICE today: It's Time To Start Preparing Yourself for President Rand Paul:

But with half of the GOP’s 2016 bench trying to avoid prison time and Democrats spinning their wheels in Obama’s second-term rut, the idea of a President Rand Paul is starting to sound less and less crazy. On issues like criminal justice reform, mass surveillance, and drug policy, Paul is casting himself as Another Option, carving out new space as the candidate who can make room for both small-government libertarians and other voters—young people and minorities, mostly—who don’t see either party as particularly effective or relevant. And some of what he’s saying makes a lot of sense.

Take Paul’s comments about the events in Ferguson, Missouri. In an op-ed published by Time on Thursday, the Kentucky Senator laid out a remarkably blunt, even angry, assessment of the racial tensions at the center of this week’s riots, linking policing issues to his broader critique of the federal government. …

So what does all this mean for 2016? Civil liberties issues don’t usually dominate presidential elections, and on the big issues—the economy, immigration reform, healthcare—Paul has been decidedly less bipartisan. But presidential elections are mostly a numbers game: As you are no doubt aware, Obama crushed both John McCain and Mitt Romney among voters ages 18-29 (66-32 and 60-37, respectively). But George W. Bush was basically tied with both Al Gore and John Kerry among that demographic. If Paul can use civil liberties as a wedge issue to eat away at Democratic margins with young people—particularly in swing states like Ohio, Virginia, Iowa, and in the West—he might actually have a shot in 2016. And the more Hillary Clinton keeps reminding people of her hawkish, autocratic proclivities the more likely it gets that voters will be open to other options.

Of course, no matter where you fall on the political spectrum, there are reasons to be concerned about the prospect of Rand Paul becoming the leader of the free world. (The Democratic National Committee has been happy to point these out—they’ve blasted out at least 16 emails about Paul this month, a sign that someone over there recognizes he might be a problem.) But there will be plenty of time to go into all of that later. For now, just consider this a fair warning.

  3. Another day, another conservative Republican gets arrested.  This time, in the state of Iowa where Henry Rayhons, a 78 year old GOP state representative, was arrested by the Hancock Sheriff's Dept. and charged with having non-consensual sex with his wife, a mentally incapacitated Alzheimer's patient at a nursing home.  (Again, Republicans getting in trouble for visiting a nursing home!  Stay away from the nursing homes!)

  4. Wow. These guys are just so confused about the whole issue of "consent". Let me clear it up.

A potential sexual partner has to be awake, of mental and physical age to consent, not coerced, and able to speak to say "Yes". Or "No".

Since there was no possibility of reproduction, due to the advanced ages of Mr. and Mrs. Rayhon,  this might not even have been Biblically sanctioned sex.

Perhaps a stay in prison might clear up the whole consent issue for Mr. Rayhon.

  5. And yet another Republican Reprobate in court today.  This time in the state of Colorado where State Senator Steven King had his initial advisement in court on theft, forgery and embezzlement charges in Grand Junction.  His support system consisted of his father in law and a former campaign volunteer.  Where were his former colleagues in law enforcement when he needed them?

  6. And of course, there is the continuing story of "As the Worm Turns" in Virginia where the Republican ex-Guv and his wife are presenting their defense to corruption charges.

A sad note:  one of the last of the great RINOs, former Sen. Jim Jeffords of Vermont died today.

  7. Colorado SD5 Push Poll…

Elkhurst Communications–which is a push polling firm run by the GOP pollster David Flaherty (Magellan Strategies and 'manager' of the 'Redestricting Technology' for the RNC) and whose push-polling firm has before tried to skew reality around coal issues, is push polling in SD5, at least in Delta County, on the SD5 race, between 'Democrat' candidate Kerry Donavan and Republican candidate Don Suppes.  Kerry is described as a Vail town council member and director of a ski and snowboard program; Don is described as mayor of Orchard City and a small business owner .  Then I am asked if my opinion changed.  The one issue they poll on are the new EPA carbon rules, which supporters say will help address climate change and which opponents say will destroy jobs in places like western Colorado.   Would my position change if I knew where candidates stood on this issue???

So I think we can see some sort of dark money mailer in Delta County mailboxes soon…Vail snowborading skiing elitist who probably believes in that climate change stuff and Don Suppes, small businessman, small town mayor, loves him some coal…  You heard it here first.

(They also asked about Hick and Beauprez, and included the Libertarian candidate)  They did not 'poll' on Udall/Gardner.

  8. I now get more calls since trying to opt out via phone, web site and email.  I now get called almost on the hour every hour.  I also called another business at the address elkhurst communications is listing

    1685 Boxelder Street
Louisville, CO  80027 and there is no business by that name in the building .

It is obvious that they do not care about harassing people – but I sure hope someone is able to find out the owner name or a contact phone number and post it so everyone can start calling him/her 5 times a day – and/or someone get some more information to possibly take legal action.

OMG, this is just freaking ridiculous –

      1. And yet he is a go to guy for the Colorado GOP, and all sorts of RNC races where a little dirt needs smeared.  Apparently Ryan R Call don't give a shit that they are harassing Coloradans, tired after a longs day work trying to make it in the Bush economy, wealth being siphoned off by the non-working investor class and squirreled away overseas.  To be called over and over again by some slime ball doing the Colorado GOP's work.  You think they'd be ashamed of themselves….just kidding (on that last part).

  9. Hell in a handbasket in Ferguson…frustration, tension, people throwing bottles at police, police lobbing tear gas. A battle for the streets. So much for the National Guard keeping the peace. Journalists are being pushed around, arrested, threatened.

44,000 people watching the live stream of "I am Mike Brown – live from Ferguson".

St. Louis Times Dispatch Special Report – mainstream journalism on the ground.

What do the protesters want? They want the perpetrator, (Officer Darren Wilson, who shot unarmed Mike Brown 6 times) arrested.  They want to see him in handcuffs, doing the perp walk. Then things will calm down. "No Justice, No Peace," chant the protesters.

What does Missouri Governor Nixon say?  "If we're going to achieve justice, we first must have and maintain peace."

What the hell is going on with Officer Darren Wilson? Where is he? Why are they still protecting him?

    1. Mama, just 'cause he shot an unarmed man 6 times (and 4 of them went into an upflung right arm, like the kid was surrendering or something) doesn't mean that that cop did anything wrong.

And the 250 white people who went out to support said cop (in addition to a break-off group of the KKK) didn't get tear gassed or nothing because they protested in the daylight (not after dark when cops can't see black people well and get all scaredy-cat about it).

As someone who used to protest in the 60s, I can tell you that tear gas and riot gear just used  to settle us right down and make us respect the police instantly. "Course back then, the riot gear was a lot lamer than what the cops in suburban St. Louis have access to. . .

  10. Riot batons and sheilds.  Pshaw.  You old-timers think that's how to establish a police state, knock a few hippies around on the TV? Give me an M-50 and an MRAT any day.
