READ THIS: The Many Lies of Con Man Cory

This evening, Rep. Cory Gardner will join Sen. Mark Udall in Grand Junction for the first debate of the 2014 U.S. Senate race. There are a lot of issues at stake in this race, and I wanted to take a moment to recap everything we’ve been talking about so far.

No politician is perfect, but Cory Gardner could truly be one of the most deceptive candidates Colorado has seen in years. Just this week, the Associated Press reported that one of Gardner’s latest TV ads, which you’ve probably seen, claims credit for “launching” Colorado’s green energy industry. The truth is Gardner opposed the landmark 2004 law, Amendment 37, that made Colorado a leader in the renewable energy economy. And the bill that Gardner sponsored never funded a single renewable energy project before being repealed.

Tell Cory Gardner it’s time for the lies to stop.

There’s a reason we call him Con Man Cory. From the moment Cory Gardner entered the race for the U.S. Senate, he has been covering up his long political record–a record that ranked him as the 10th most right-wing member of Congress in 2012, according to National Journal. Days after getting into the Senate race, Gardner claimed to have disavowed the Colorado Personhood abortion bans he’s supported for years, even though he is still sponsor of federal legislation that would do the same thing: ban abortion and many common forms of birth control.

On every issue that matters to women and families, Gardner is not only trying to claim a new position; he is trying to pretend his old votes didn’t happen. Gardner claims today that he "never" supported the disastrous shutdown of the federal government last year, which impeded recovery from devastating floods that impacted our state just days before. But the truth is, Gardner did support the shutdown, voted with his party at every step to shut down the government, and publicly defended the Republican strategy. In addition to impeding flood recovery, the shutdown’s closure of the state’s national parks and monuments cost Colorado’s economy millions of dollars.

It goes on and on. Gardner claims today that he has been vocal for immigration reform, but in Congress and the state legislature, he has repeatedly voted with the Tom Tancredo wing of the Republican Party–even opposing routine medical care and vaccinations for immigrant children. Gardner voted to stick taxpayers with the bill for cleanup of toxic waste sites. Gardner even told a Colorado senior living on a breathing tube, "we got to protect Medicaid," even though he repeatedly voted for Congressional budgets that restrict and slash Medicaid benefits. He said this to her face without flinching.

Gardner claims in TV ads that his health insurance premiums have skyrocketed under Obamacare, but he won’t release the documents to prove it. Gardner talks about over-the-counter birth control on TV, but the truth is this is an empty gesture for many reasons, and he’s even voted to deny women access to Plan B contraception without a prescription.

Cory Gardner’s strategy this year is to inundate the discussion with false claims about his record, hoping the voters won’t find out the truth until it’s too late. His strategy is part of a long con, and hard working Coloradans are his mark.

Gardner’s brazen dishonesty represents a new kind of political challenge: not just to hold him accountable, but to reach the voters he is actively trying to deceive with the facts.

Help us now. Click here to tell Cory Gardner that Colorado deserves better than a serial liar in the U.S. Senate. We are compiling your names and comments to share over the next eight weeks with Gardner’s campaign, the press, and fellow Coloradans. With less that 60 days remaining until Election Day, the time is now to speak out: and make sure everyone you know understands what Cory Gardner would mean for Colorado.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know it’s a lot of information, but Gardner’s campaign has become so deceptive that a comprehensive response was needed. Please forward this important information to everyone you know. I know in my heart that Colorado deserves better than Cory Gardner, and with your help, by Election Day everyone will.

Sincerely,

Amy Runyon-Harms

  1. Cory is a special breed of liar — a truly psthological, amoral one, with no remorse whatsoever. Just looks you right in the eye, and lies away. Anything to seize power. The nefarious ends always justify the nefarious means, in his and his party's twisted minds.

At least Mikey C has the decency to mumble and look extremely comfortable when he tries to smoke his giant whoppers past you.

    1. Left wing lie machine, backing co-winner of the liar of the year award (if you like your policy you can keep your policy, for the ADD suffering Polsters), claims opponent lies.

      More to follow at 10.

  2. And please, Colpols, when junior brings out the dead horsie (he seems to think it isn't Gardner's repeatedly lying that's getting tedious but other people noticing) please delete it. It's a really annoying and could cause seizures in the susceptible

    1. Shouldn't be a problem . . .

It appears the Koch's don't pay for weekend work, and SFB has almost no chance of being able to post anything on his own behest . . .

  3. Cory, remember when you sent a letter to me claiming that the CBO said that Medicare was going broke? Not true on two counts. First the CBO never made such a claim and secondly Medicare can’t “go broke” unless Congress interferes with the way it is funded.I still have a copy of the letter and I can share it with the Udall campaign or the media. Will you admit you lied and retract the statement?

  4. "you sick, cowardly, little old chicken hawk"  ……….  "go away you sick SOB"

Jeez: you guys sound like your scripts are written by Rush Limbaugh. Ya think you could come up with some reasonable rebuttal facts instead of the name calling?

    Regards,   C.H.B.

p.s. to Progress Now Colorado: if you guys feel this strongly, how about some full page ads in the Post, Coloradoan, Gazetter, Chieftain, Daily Senmtinel, etc. instead of spouting on a web site?

    1. Nothing to rebut…you saw the post. AC knows no bottom…no cruel, sadistic, hurtful comment is beneath this POS…

Are you defending his post, CHB? Because, if you are, then I have a big problem with you, too…

      1. Dude: you can have what you call big problems with as many people as you want. I really don't care. Just consider me an advocate for courtesy and civil discourse. And your reply to f. off falls into the same category.

And if I was defending his post; hard to imagine since I really don't like Cory Gardner; so what?      Regards,  C.H.B.

        1. CHB, I'm a fan of civil discourse, too. For one thing, writing curse words will quickly get this website banned in schools again. For another, it's boring. I just skip past just about anything with "Fuck you" in the title. And finally, it gives the troll what they want – the ability to provoke emotional responses and to steer the conversation. There's plenty of news in the world and in Colorado tonight – but we're talking about AC.

I'm also as disgusted as anyone by AC's photo of the moment before the execution of Steven Sotloff, (It's the first one on the Weekend Thread if you haven't seen it, so we get to look at it all weekend) and his attempt to make political jab at Obama with it. I also want AC banned, or at least put in Pols purgatory where he can't post for awhile. Two ethnic slurs and a snuff photo – to what depth must he sink before action is taken?

That said, civil discourse seems to have as little diminishing effect as name-calling on the trollish postings. Maybe some words to the wise from a fellow conservative like "Hey, dude, that's over the line" will do it. Be my guest.

        2. If you consider the posting of the photo of Sotloff just before his head was cut off and using it as a slam at Obama "civil discourse" and "courteous", then you are one sad, sick dude, dude.

    2. CHB,  I'll be glad to speak to that.  AC trolls other threads with vile "jokes" that make his naughty parts tingle, the runs over to threads like this one to post like nothing ever happened.  Since he doesn't have the guts to answer in the threads he's shit on, we have to take it up with him here.  Its a little disingenuous for him to act that way and expect us to compartmentalize it.

    3. CHB, there is nothing in AC's heinous post to rebut. It's not about a policy position to agree or disagree with. It's the fact that he posted it at all. It's about his using a family's most painful tragedy for the purpose of trolling and snark. It's about his total lack of the most basic humanity,  the most basic human decency in his choice  to post it in the first place. If you can't see that, you've got some sort of deficit yourself.

We all stand by our assessment of AC's demonstrated worthlessness as a contributor of anything of value to any discussion here. We don't want to see anything like this pollute our blog ever again.  It's  way over the line. We know that's a vain hope as long as AC posts here because he's obviously too hateful to know any better.

      1. PS It's that weekend picture with the snarky comment that those of us telling AC to get lost are responding to, not his usual latest blather about lies. We don't care what his next comment may be. We just don't want him here anymore. He can expect either the reaction you object to or shunning from most of us from here on out, no matter what he says. The most abject apology, and only one that convinced us of his complete sincerity in fully understanding what was wrong with what he did and accepting that it was completely beyond the pale, would be the bare minimum requirement for any change in attitude toward AC at this point.
