  1. No Change and No Hope

    From the Washington Post:

Dana Milbank begins the Long Slog:

There are five 2014 House races still to be decided before we can answer a question of historical interest:

Was this the worst election for House Democrats since 1928? Or was it merely their worst since 1946?

Either way, the results do not reflect well on the House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi — a conclusion that seems to have escaped Nancy Pelosi.

        1. I'm going to try this. I had sinus surgery yesterday so in  a recovery mode and don't wish to have a bigger headache by reading his mindless rants.

          1. So sorry — please feel better soon! And enjoy your troll-free Pols existence from this forward.

I strongly encourage everyone who hasn't already to do the same. You too can live a happy, troll-free life!

            1. He is gone Dawn and all I see is his name.  This is great.  I feel better today and will just continue to feel better.  My sinuses have been the bane of my existence for years so I will feel so much better soon.

    1. Your party failed to unseat Obama in 2012. Your party failed to put a Republican in the Governor's Mansion in Colorado in 2014. You know what that means for Colorado, right? You can continue to whine about Obamacare here.

    2. Huh.  And I suppose calling human-caused climate change a "hoax" is the antithesis of stupidity?  After all, although your GOP heroes now trundle around saying "I'm not a scientist," there is near-universal consensus in the actual scientific community that (a) human-caused climate change is real, and (b) we need to drastically reduce our burning of fossil fuels to avoid catastrophic change.

But, yours is the party of the smart people…

  2. Congressman Buck elected President of the House Republican Freshman class

“I am honored to earn the support of my fellow freshmen.  I told them our constituents sent us here to get work done, and I intend to use this leadership position to hold our class together and use our united voice to push for action from day one.” – See more at: http://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2014/11/14/phoenix-ken-buck-elected-gop-freshman-class-president/#sthash.Kl3sxwA3.dpuf

What an idea?  Maybe we can get back to a system where the House and Senate write, consider and vote on legislation.

      1. "AC sucks all 3 Koch brothers……….."   That's the third time you've submitted this comment. Perhaps you need a new writer.    Regards,    C.H.B.

        1. CHB, as a member of your KochParty, you have no other choice to but to accept the fact the Koch brothers bought the election, lock stock and barrel.

Unfortunately at the end, the experiment will be a massive failure for the Koch Brothers, as they wind up being indicted for A-Z, including RICO charges which Koch Brothers are the organization that will be instigators of the RICO charges. Several Republicans will be indicted, found guilty and serve a long time in prison unless they begin singing. I give you the lessons of Jack Abramoff. The new targets are Charles, Bill and David Koch.

          1. Ths issue is not who "bought the election" (Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Karl Rove) or who tried to "buy the election" (Steyer, Soros, whomever). The issue I tried to raise, in a mild way, is your repetitive use of the same phrase, which does get old.

I will offer that allowing this sort of money into the electoral process; thanks to Citizens United; does lead to pure corruption.

As for indictments for racketeering, I suppose one can always dream

            Regards,   C.H.B.

            1. I will chime in on the side of C.H.B. on this one dust puppy. While you and I are very much in line on our political points of view and I always admire your enthusiasm,  we got your point the first time.

Readers of political blogs are usually put off a bit by such juvenile prose, which of course you have every right to use. But,  I hope you understand that your ideas and your message will be more widely read and considered if you refrain from overuse of gratuitous salty language…. except on occasion..smiley

      1. Yep, today's GOP is staring into the abyss, and the author is one insightful Republican.  But his words of warning will be welcomed by the GOP (exemplified by our own Bozos in Residence, ACHole and Moderanus)  just like those of Cassandra.

    1. From the article:

Few things are as dangerous to a long term strategy as a short-term victory. Republicans this week scored the kind of win that sets one up for spectacular, catastrophic failure and no one is talking about it.

What emerges from the numbers is the continuation of a trend that has been in place for almost two decades. Once again, Republicans are disappearing from the competitive landscape at the national level across the most heavily populated sections of the country while intensifying their hold on a declining electoral bloc of aging, white, rural voters. The 2014 election not only continued that doomed pattern, it doubled down on it. As a result, it became apparent from the numbers last week that no Republican candidate has a credible shot at the White House in 2016, and the chance of the GOP holding the Senate for longer than two years is precisely zero.

      1. Want to see a landslide, knock out blow that will finally bring the GOP to its knees? Bannock St. Project + 50 State Strategy + Economic Progressive Agenda + Hillary Clinton = utter GOP destruction.

      1. That national wave will keep eroding the GOP beachhead in the states – wave after wave after wave in 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028 will ultimately turn those red tinged GOP faces blue. Especially if Dems take needed and obvious steps to be more competitive in off year elections – including the economy every damn year in your agenda and messaging, being one – duh! And, the GOP base is literally fading into history.

      1. One thing to remember even in victory the gop is not a united party except in hating Obama and that can carry them only so far. The Democrats have their divisions but nothing equals the hate that the different factions of the gop have for each other. Plus the factions are power hungry – they don't care about governing just power – like watching a Greek Tragedy but much less sophisticated.

        1. There is something really crazy about tea partiers.  I think they are on the brink of losing clout though and none to soon for the good of the country we love.

        1. Obamacare, Obamacare, Obamacare……….   I suspect this woman has never even read the darn thing. One part of Obamacare that I like gives greater authority and funding for pursuit of Medicare fraudsters. I suppose Ms. Martin could be seen then as a supporter of Medicare fraud.     C.H.B.

        1. Thatcher first spoke of the challenge in 1989; it's been on our military's radar since 1990 and was incorporated into their QR (Quadrennial Review) during the Dubya Administration.  By all means Republicans, let's defund the EPA and mock the China proposal…

Does Our Military Know Something We Don't Know About Global Warming?

The central problem is that outside the security sector, policy processes confronting issues with substantial uncertainty do not normally yield policy that has high economic or political costs. This is especially true when the uncertainty extends not only to the issues themselves, but also to the measures to avert them or deal with their consequences.”

“The climate change issue illustrates – in fact exaggerates – all the elements of this central problem. Indeed, no major action is likely to be taken until those uncertainties are substantially reduced, and probably not before evidence of warming and its effects are actually visible. Unfortunately, any increase in temperature will be irreversible by the time the danger becomes obvious enough to permit political action.”

          ~Eugene Skolnikoff, 1990

          1. No, our military doesn't but I'm guessing that Dr. Chaps and Dr.Pat Robertson regularly get "signs" from above that global warming is nothing to fear and normal phenomenon in a 6,500 year old planet.

That combined with the coal mining interests in Appalachia providing votes for folks like Yertle the Turdle and Shelly Moore Capito make it all the more abundantly clear that global warming is a hoax perpetrated so that Al Gore can write books and make movies.

  3. I'm hearing rumblings among climate change activists and the Colorado environmental community about potentially recruiting a candidate to primary Michael Bennet.  While Bennet has an admirable LCV score of around 90%, his recent reaffirmation of his enthusiastic support for KeystoneXL has severely damaged his credibility on environment issue.  Yes, obviously, this was done to (a) support Landrieu and (b) shore up his support from Big Oil and Gas; but, KeystoneXL is the watershed issue of the moment when it comes to the climate change crisis.

We'll see what Bennet does over the next several months; but, he needs to know that the environmental community is watching very closely.

        1. And if it becomes law after January 1st because of Bennet's vote (i.e., a veto override)?  Let's see how that works out, too–assuming it doesn't become law during this lame-duck session.

          1. I seriously doubt they get to 67 votes in the Senate although it's possible.  And then they need 290 in the House.

If all that happens, maybe someone should challenge Bennet in '16.  Any thoughts on who?  Romanoff gave it a go four years ago but it didn't end well.  Polis?
