Liberal Newspapers Endorse Jeff Crank

A lot has been made in the last weeks of Jeff Crank losing supporters hand over fist (Mother Mary, Chamber of Commerce, etc). But, in an amazing turnaround, two of the most liberal news publications in Colorado have given Crank their thumbs up.
jericho :: Liberal Newspapers Endorse Jeff Crank
The Denver Post writes an almost glowing review of Crank's potential.

Crank doesn't have legislative experience, but he did work in Washington for Hefley...

The Colorado Springs Independent is even more effusive in their praise of Jeff.

On the GOP side, it's clear that Crank brings a better understanding of the Washington battlefield, from his years working for Hefley and later as a lobbyist.

There's that "lobbyist" label again, the one Crank seems to dislike so much. Though, on a personal note, I don't understand how someone who "doesn't have legislative experience" "brings a better understanding of the Washington battlefield" than a sitting Congressman.

But I don't really agree with much of what either of these liberal newspapers print, and in the case of the Indy, their endorsement seems mostly like sour grapes because Lamborn didn't stop by their offices like the other two candidates.

Nor has Lamborn responded to requests that he field questions from the Independent - even by phone. Rayburn and Crank visited the Indy office during the past week, staying as long as needed for much constructive discussion.

I guess Lamborn forgot that the Indy is kingmaker in Colorado Springs.

Neither of these papers endorsed Lamborn, because he was the most conservative. I don't think being backed by liberal, sometimes crazy newspapers will help Crank.

The Rocky Mountain News endorsed Lamborn in 06, I think that carries much more weight.

You know
One of the things I love about Doug Lamborn is that liberals can't stand him. And that goes for liberal rags as well.

If they refuse to endorse him, that's all the reason I need to do so.

When does the Gazette endorse?
Anyone know? And who did the paper endorse in 2006?

Not sure when
In 06 the editors endorsed Lamborn, but I believe the paper as a whole does not do endorsements.

Gazette
Jericho, did the Gazette endorse any candidates in 2006 primary races? Or did the newspaper wait for the general election? Should remember, but don't.

[ Parent ]
Some papers
don't endorse in primaries ... so that's a great question.

[ Parent ]
I can't remember
If it was primary or general election. I think it was the general, but I can't find anything on it.

Here's the RMN's from 06 (general election one)

Crank has a tendency
to tell people what they want to hear.  That is why he is able to pick up the endorsements of these left leaning papers.

I would rather have a candidate who tells me what I need to hear, than one who says whatever is politically catchy and expedient.

Who gets the liberal endorsement in the general election?
These papers will undoubtedly endorse Bidlack in the general election.  Why did they endorse Crank in the primary?  Because he is the weakest Republican. Although Bidlack can't win, he would do better against Crank than he would against Rayburn or Lamborn, allowing Democrats to make further inroads into El Paso County (where Garcia and the EPCGOP are running the Party like some fraternity).  The papers' endorsements, thankfully doesn't mean a whole lot in 2008, and their plan won't work this time around, but their hope is, in ten years or so a Democrat might have a real shot.  The chance of that would be a lot greater with a hypocritical whining lobbyist like Crank, who along with Garcia and Fisk have done and would do more to divide the party than anyone who has come before them.

I heard a rumor that several Republican clubs or groups are
calling, or will be calling for Garcia's resignation.

I understand the local party is in the poorest economic shape it has every been in pre election due to Garcia's leadership causing the party to be viewed as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Crank campaign.

The biggest vote of NO Confidence Garcia has received is the lack of donations to the local party.

Some men see things as they are, and ask why! ...I dream things that could be and ask,  Why Not !
