  1. How did this miss being a "Caption This" photo?

From August, 2014, Denver Post.  Jared Polis photobombs Coffman and Gardner at a Colorado Rustler's event. They all wore the same "Rustler's" shirts.  Leing, Polis' opponent, apparently used this photo in his own campaign materials.

  2. Rep. Ken Buck, embarrassment.

On Tuesday, Buck and 14 other Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee wrote a letter to AG Loretta Lynch challenging President Obama's "unconstitutional" use of discretion in his commutation of the sentences of 46 non-violent Federal drug offenders.

In case it has escaped former District Attorney Buck's legal grasp, the power of the President to grant clemency and pardon as he wishes is limited only in that he cannot do so on impeachments. Further, the suggestion that this almost unrestricted power usurps the power of the Legislature to define punishments is ludicrous on its face.

The most reprehensible part of the letter is the suggestion that this was done to "benefit specific classes of offenders, or for political benefit". No – that would have been George H.W. Bush's pardons of six Iran-Contra figures. Poor, otherwise anonymous non-violent drug offenders who have no relation to one another do not constitute "political benefit". And let's not forget to mention the dog-whistle of "specific classes".

    1. Ahem:

No specific people were chosen.  No connections to important people, right?

Demaryius Thomas’s mother has prison sentence commuted

President Barack Obama commuted the sentences of 46 federal prisoners on Monday, most of whom had been sentenced to at least 20 years for non-violent drug offenses under sentencing guidelines that the Obama Administration believes were “overly punitive.” Katrina Smith is one of those 46 prisoners, which makes Thomas a happy man.

Smith is Thomas’s mother and has been in federal prison since 2000 along with Thomas’s grandmother Minnie Pearl Thomas after they were convicted of drug trafficking. Smith was offered and refused a reduced sentence if she testified against her mother, who received two life sentences as a three-time offender, and was originally sentenced to more than 24 years. A previous adjustment of sentencing rules had her on track to be released in 2017, but she will now get out on November 10.

      1. Nonviolent drug offenses – that means nobody got robbed or hurt. Maybe these women had a small amount of cannabis – it doesn't say which drug, and it hardly matters. I trust the President's judgement in commuting these sentences, whoever the offenders were, and no matter how well or poorly-connected they are.

It's time for the drug war to stop. Rand Paul is all about that. Better get on board, AC.

        1. Yep, AC is behind the times.  The Gods he worships are way ahead of him on this issue:

Koch Bros to Bankroll Prison Reform

For example, Generation Opportunity, a Koch-affiliated libertarian group that targets young voters, is already collaborating with Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM) to produce a documentary on a man unjustly ensnared by mandatory minimums.

          http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/01/13/koch-bros-to-bankroll-prison-reform.html

        2. Actually, it does say which drug – cocaine and cocaine base (listed in the White House's statement on the commutations); there's no amount listed because she was not charged with possession – she allowed her mother to keep drug money in her house, and gave it to her as asked.

Her original sentence was the minimum of 20 years (her mother had been dealing crack cocaine – i.e. "cocaine base"). That minimum is now 5 years after a challenge to the inequities of cocaine vs. crack sentencing proved successful.

      2. This is simply the first batch. Many more are coming. it takes a while for processing. Considering the disproportionate number of African Ameicans incarcerated for non-violent drug crimes and the backgrounds of many African American athletes it's hardly shocking to find a connection to one if them in the first 47. Just heard a very grateful white woman on the radio who had served 20 of her 30 years for selling meth and is also in the first 47. So  I guess Obama favors white female meth heads just as much as African American football players' moms.

Here's what I find interesting. You can't seem to find anything positive or supportive to say about your own clown car load so you just go searching for anything negative or potentially negative you can find on Obama, HRC or other prominent Dems. Know why? Because you've got nothing. As usual. Want to talk about how Walmart's business model  has been  dependent for decades on government "handouts" for huge numbers of their employees but you never complain about them being takers who need to take their hands out of  our pockets? Didn't think so.

  3. Michael Goodwin of the NY Post with a classic:

"Another day, another Clinton black eye — or two. Both continue the plotlines that threaten Hillary’s Oval Office dreams.

First comes more evidence of the family’s sheer greed. The Washington Post reports that the University of Missouri at Kansas City wanted Hillary to speak at the opening of its women’s hall of fame last year, but backed off when she demanded $275,000. So the school, acting like a sucker waiting to be plucked, settled for Chelsea Clinton, who spent a half-hour on site for $65,000.

At more than $2,000 a minute, what a bargain.

The second poisonous story adds to Hillary’s reputation for dishonesty. It blows up her claim that she never encouraged slimy pal Sid Blumenthal to write intelligence-based emails about Libya when she was secretary of state.

The stories add to the inescapable conclusion that she’s a greedy liar.

The truth emerged when some emails Blumenthal turned over to Congress were not included in the ones Clinton gave the State Department. She insisted she turned over all that were work-related, but The New York Times saw at least nine relevant ones that Blumenthal provided that Clinton didn’t.

In some, Clinton asked for additional information, and said in another, “Thanks for keeping this stuff coming.” She also tried to hide Blumenthal’s name, asking aides if they could “print for me w/o any identifiers?”

The stories add to the inescapable conclusion that she’s a greedy liar.

    Everything else is detail."

    1. Hey ACHole — be sure to turn the lights out if you're the last Colorado GOP member left after all the resignations and criminal charges are filed!

Seems like you guys have cornered the market in criminal conduct. 🙂

    2. Yes, the dirty Democrat Clintons are uniquely greedy.

Members of the Texas-based Helping a Hero charity told ABC News that Bush charged $100,000 for his 2012 speech at a charity fundraiser for veterans who lost limbs in the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars. The former president was also given use of a private jet at a cost of $20,000 and former First Lady Laura Bush was paid $50,000 to speak to the group last year. (CNN)

At least George W. is smart enough to make a profit on both ends of the deal, I guess.

      1. Must say, though…..this is part of why the idea of a Clinton v Bush election has never thrilled me. Too late now. We've got what we've got. Just glad Bernie is in there forcing Dems to sound a little more like Dems again and talk about things they've been afraid to talk about for fear of looking like they're not conservative enough and too mean to poor defenseless billionaires.

    3. Probably nobody here is going to bother defending Hillary Clinton, no matter how distorted or out of context your claims are. We'll mostly vote for her anyway, though (if she is the nominee instead of Bernie) – so you're wasting your time. Please proceed.

  4. Jeffco School Board recall fundraising update: $43,981 in two weeks, $675 of which came from out-of-state. 536 donations, two biggest donations were $1K, one came from Jeffco's retired superintendent.

Only 1 in 5 donors are employed by the district, 90% of donations less than $100, and zero $$ from teachers union. Pesky facts, those.

  5. If you're jonesing for some OutHouse tidbits, the Washington Post is carrying a good summary of the whole GOP Soap Opera:

I had seen the rumors that Julie Naye had a "companionship" website, and that Tom Tancredo was a customer, but didn't spread it because a) it's still just rumors, and b) who ever wants to think of Tom Tancredo getting that kind of "companionship"?? Major Ick……..

But now the Washington Post put it out there for the world to get queasy on….
