Everybody on the Bus!

  • by: Colorado Pols

Some of you debutantes out there who are loyal Penny Parker readers may have seen her column today about the celebrity grouping on the Marc Holtzman for governor RV tour. Parker’s reporting on the subject is about as fat free as a George Foreman Grill, so we thought we’d end the mindless speculation on who is — and isn’t — on the stump for Holtzman.

PolishPrez.jpg

Polish president Aleksander Kwasniewski has thrown his hat into Republican gubernatorial candidate Marc Holtzman’s ring. To show his support, Kwasniewski will stump the state on Sept. 13 aboard Holtzman’s RV to support his pal’s candidacy.

The two formed a friendship in the 1990s while Holtzman, an entrepreneur, lived in Poland. Kwasniewski awarded Holtzman The Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit in 1999 for Holtzman’s assistance in Poland’s transfer to a free-market economy.

TRUE. The orange-tanned Kwasniewski is indeed scheduled to join Holtzman on the campaign trail. While this will probably only get people excited if they try to pass him off as the Duke basketball coach, it’s still pretty cool to say that you’ve got a President campaigning for you. Maybe Bob Beauprez can get President Bush on the stump for him and they can debate (insert your own Polish jokes. We’re not doing it).

Moving on…

Elway.jpg Foreman.jpg

The Polish prez joins other heavy hitters John Elway and George Foreman, who previously jumped on Holtzman’s campaign trail.

NOT QUITE. Elway is not joining Holtzman on the campaign trail and has not stumped for him before. Foreman, however, is a supporter and the Holtzman campaign is trying to schedule him for an event (but he has not yet been on the stump).

So, there you have it.

  1. Another one rides the bus-ah.
    Another one rides the bus-ah.
    And another comes on,
    And another comes on.
    Another one rides the bus-ah.
    Hey!
    He’s gonna sit by you.
    Another one rides the bus.

  2. Elway hasn’t said who he’ll endorse–doesn’t this contradict what was coming out of the Holtzman campaign?

Also, I read the Holtzman direct mail piece. He mentions Reagan a lot and wants to leave the impression that his ties to the Reagan administration were very strong–but Holtzman never worked in the administration–he worked at a think tank.

  3. JP –
No, MH didn’t directly work in Reagan’s administration, but MH was his campaign chair in PA, and the youngest one in the country at that time.  MH didn’t work for his administration because he went back to college – at Reagan’s urging.  All you have to do is go to MH’s campaign headquarters and you’ll see half a dozen pictures with him and Reagan.

As for Elway, the only person who ever said that Elway was going to be on board the bus was Penny Parker.  Yes, Elway donated a grand to MH, and I’m sure he donated money to BB as well, that tends to happen in primary elections.

  4. Irishman–
A half dozen pictures doesn’t mean jack. He did run Penn. for which I give him credit, but I don’t trust 20 year olds who run campaigns—they have no life experience and are too power hungry (even more so than politicians).

I am sure Holtzman is a good guy, but why is he more qualified than someone else to run Colorado? He has already lost a campaign in Penn.– He has no political experience—this is what is called the “Coors” factor.

  5. I think he gained quite a bit of political experience working for Owens and helping to rebuild eastern Europe.

I think his lack of holding public office makes him the perfect candidate to bring new ideas into the situation.  You call it the “Coors” factor, I call it the “Republican Hickenlooper” factor.

  6. I kind of like the fact that Holtzman is bringing the political potfolio that he has to the race. I totally agree with JP’s assessment of 20 year old political operatives… They are worse than brand new Academy graduates in the military. But that was 20 years ago for Marc. Since then he has lived with the rest of us in the real world, building a successful business (what I am trying to do right now) and then giving back to our state by working in the Owens administration and as Pesident of DU, in both cases doing so without pay.

I don’t want to bash Pete Coors, so I’ll ignore the “Coors Factor” comment, but there are a number of “life experience” similarities between Hick and Holtzman…

  7. You’re either on the bus or you’re off the bus…

Thought, I’m faily certain Ken Kesey’s bus was a lot different than Holtzman’s – and a lot more fun.

  8. Not bashing Coors–just saying Salazar was more politically polished.  I like when people bring outside experience into government…but is that what BB has done?  I mean the guy was a farmer and a banker—what more could you want.  I don’t want the republicans to eat their young and allow a Coors/Schaffer debacle to ruin another election.

Also, what’s the story on Ben Campbell?? Why is he calling BB and MH second rate?  I bet he would get his clock cleaned in 3 way race.  YOur thoughts—

  9. I hear that John Elway is steaming mad. Holtzman was clearly told twice by Elway’s people that Elway was not going to campaign for him. Than Marc goes ahead and fails to correct Penny Parker when she called him. Not only is Elway furious but so is Penny. Elway is now likely to endorse Beauprez. Holtzman may be starting to wither.

  10. So the whole race is revolving around what Elways says? You’re kidding right?
Elway first promised his support to Tom Weins guys… Wow, what a contender he is!
Maybe we need to get with Tom Selleck, Babs and Courtney Love’s people to see thow they are voting and then just follow along like good little lemmings.

  11. As I stare at the framed, ORANGE #7 jersey on my wall, I have to say that you are right “got to be kidding”. I practicaly cried when he dived over the line and scored that helicopter touchdown against Green Bay…

But I don’t give a hoot who he endorses.

  12. As far as Ben Nighthouse is concerned… Colin is out peddling new champaign software, so I think Dad is just trying to stir the market for his son.
“Colin selling campaign software” + “Ben talking about GOV” =”Must be really good software Ben is planning on using.”

    2+2=4… Know what I mean?

I think it is a marketing gimick for Colin’s benefit.

  13. “The engineering is simple, but the politics are brutal,” Beauprez said. “The water supply in Colorado is the real reason for me being in this race, period. If something isn’t done to secure and reserve water in Colorado, the Western Slope will turn into dust bowls. That won’t happen on my watch.”

Pay close attention to the last line. This is a statement from BB while in Morgan. Again, this guy seems to think the Manison is given to him!

    Arrogance!

  14. Colin Campbell is a moron.  He is the reason the republicans lost the State House. He can’t manage people and worse yet, can’t see the big picture.

  15. Vladimir – is that really you, Deferro Veritas?

Elway and Holtzman have regular conversations, and they spoke yesterday, too… the two are friends and always will be. Reguardless of who wins the Primary.

  16. How about this Vlad?

This just in, Danny Cannell was let go by the Broncos yesterday after first supporting Lt. Gov. Norton last winter, then switching sides to support Democrat Ritter on Monday.
“The Denver Broncos need to make choosing a quarterback with a spine a priority! I don’t care about the ability to win Superbowls! Give me a quarterback who picks one political candidate and sticks with him,” said Coach Shannahan.
Jake the Snake is scheduled to choose sides in the Governors Race in a press conference this afternoon. It is hoped he will chose soon or attendance at Bronco games and ratings will suffer.

    That makes sence doesn’t it?

  17. Friends. John Elway sure sounded like a good friend when he called Penny Parker to unequivocally and in no uncertain terms state that he was not going to campaign for Holtzman.
They did speak yesterday and from what I hear Elway was extremely unhappy and let Holtzman know about it. But, is that not what good friends do? An amateur hour mistake by a candidate who is already wearing thin.

  18. Penny must have left out the part where he said he was going to campaign for BB because he’s so ticked at MH, huh Vladimir?

Of wait, maybe she didn’t print that, because John didn’t say that, because he’s not that ticked off at all?

Maybe he has a life and has been focusing on that lately and just wanted to set Penny strait.

Penny posted the Elway rumor months ago, yet John just got around to straightening things out now. That doesn’t sound like a guy who is all that ticked off to me.

You assume and infer a lot smart guy.

  19. Posted by Vladimir on Holtzman’s blog Aug 17:

Is John Elway going to appear with you in the next 30 days? Is John Elway endorsing your candidacy or did he merely donate?
    Thank you
    great campaign so far

Vladimir, I know you have been asking about this; did Marc ever bother to give you an answer on his blog?  Just curious

  20. What would AVG say? I know who Elway and George Foreman are but who is MH, Penny, hah? RV tour? Backing who? Who cares? Are you ready for some football??

FYI: I signed up to volunteer for MH. I’m focusing on the AVG!

  21. Did I say that big John was going to campaign for Bob Beauprez? No I said that he was not going to campaign for Marc Holtzman which he is not. No I did not get a response to my question on the Holtzman blog. I also would not be surprised if George Foreman is another fairy tale. Of course maybe Holtzman will pay him an appearance fee to show up but otherwise I bet big George will be the next Holtzman no-show.

  22. Elway John

He holds many college and professional records, and was inducted tojohn elway toyota website This page uses frames, but your bro…
