Have Fun With That, Mike Pence

Mike Pence, Donald Trump.
Mike Pence, Donald Trump.

Republican Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence will make a few campaign stops in Colorado on Wednesday, the same day that Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will be in the state along with running mate Tim Kaine. If a Pence event in Nevada today is any indication of what awaits the Indiana Governor in Colorado, tomorrow is going to be a loonnggg day. From CNN:

At a Trump campaign event in Carson City, Nevada, featuring VP nominee Mike Pence, the mother of an Air Force servicemember was loudly booed when she asked a question that was critical of Donald Trump and his comments about the family of a slain Muslim U.S. soldier.

Pressing Pence on Trump’s controversial feud with the Khan family, the mother asked Monday:

“My name is Catherine and I’m a military mom. My son is currently serving in the U.S. air force…Time and time again, Trump has disrespected our nation’s armed forces and veterans, and his disrespect for Mr. Khan and his family is just an example of that. Will there ever be a point in time when you’re able to look at Trump in the eye, and tell him enough is enough?”

As the critical nature of her question became clear, the crowd began to react audibly, booing and shouting as Pence tried to respond. “It’s ok, it’s ok,” he said to the crowd.

The mother continued, “You have a son in the military, how do you tolerate his disrespect?”

Pence can probably expect to get similar questions on Wednesday in Colorado — particularly in the military-heavy town of Colorado Springs — and it will be interesting to see if he has a better answer than what he gave in Nevada. Pence responded to the question on Tuesday by saying of Trump: “I have never been around someone more devoted to the armed forces of this country.”

Um, yeah. Have fun with that one.

  1. Somehow, if Pence tries to say something like “I have never been around someone more devoted to the armed forces of this country," the Colorado response should be to point out any number of prominent veterans and politicians from our state. It wouldn't be difficult to find someone better than Trump, the man who

    • worked the system to avoid service during the Vietnam War,
    • made 2 or 3 of 20 meetings of a committee building a Vietnam War memorial in New York,
    • criticized John McCain as doing a horrible job for the veterans,
    • made good on a promise to make a $1 million donation to a veterans' charity only when a reporter dug out that he hadn't and published that fact, and
    • gets into a protracted argument with the parents of a KIA hero.
  2. Sadly, I doubt if there will be any rebuke of Trump in the Springs. Remember, this is the town that re-elected Lamborn who clearly committed sedition when he tried to encourage military leaders to resign in protest during wartime.

Trumps supporters dont really care about anything than a big middle finger to America.

    1. There will be protests against Pence  in the Springs. It's also a college town with large progressive and gay communities.  Every day, Trump's statements bring together unlikely allies against him. People support fire marshals, firefighters,  police, soldiers – those are the heroes.  Pence won't be able to break up those coalitions.

    2. Trumps supporters don't really care about anything than  a big middle finger to America.

That is true. His supporters are just as self-centered as he. They couldn't give a shit less about the rest of us.
