Trump found out that immigration policy is more complicated that he thought, like most things that involve real human beings. But I am a bit surprised that he didn't go all out in spite of it.

Kellyanne is trying to improve his numbers and she is very smart. Satanic and smart. She currently has the idiot's ear. But, if Steve (or Ann Cunter) gets a chance to influence him, then we are likely to see even more drastic positions.
This is why he canceled all three of his immediately upcoming speeches on immigration, including here in Colorado. He isn't going to change a thing. He doesn't want to. His base doesn't want him to. Some of his would be handlers want him to, others don't want anything to do with a kinder, gentler message.
After group A got him to try to sound nicer on the subject followed by all the surprised "Trump does a 180" news coverage, fractured Team Trump must have decided there was no good way to go in the next few days worth of speeches.
Instead of giving a speech making one set of stands on immigration or the other a lie, he's just not making those speeches. In Trump world, that's as close as his handlers (not that he allows himself to be handled for more than 5 minutes at a time but they try) get to "problem solved".
Trump is getting wise to the Democrat/press attack game and you don't like it.
Dems love everything Trump says and does. We love watching his numbers plummet.

Trump was very smart to hire Conway, she should have been there from day 1. She obviously is convincing him to drop the "mass deportation force" nonsense, it's not going to happen and any competent adviser will tell him to drop this type of fanciful nonsense. If Trump keeps following Conway's advice he may still have a fighting chance…

Doubt it. Neither supporters nor non-supporters will believe any new stance. Both the fans as well as those those appalled by Trump and his hater base will consider it just a wink. Nobody on either side believes Trump really wants to or is capable of change which suits his fans just fine. So far polls don't show any change. He isn't expanding.
