So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish!

  • by: Dan Willis

I have just sent word to the officers of the Denver and State Democratic Parties of my immediate retirement from politics.

I have resigned all party positions I hold.

The reason is simple: I am not having fun anymore.

I have dismantled the political pages of my website, but the site itself will continue on with the genealogical content.

I am aiming my life in a whole new direction, personally and professionally.

I have been active in politics now for 25 years, 20 of it here in Colorado. That is a good retirement tenue for anyone.

Enjoy the debates on behalf!

    1. love the title – Douglas Adams is one of my favorites.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

  1. Well, we’ll all do it, but nobody will be as accurate as you Dan.

Thanks for your service to our party, and our state. You will be sorely missed if you don’t return.

  2. Would you change your mind if we gave you a senate seat?  Governor?

You don’t have to be uber-involved to remain a voice of knowledge here, Dan.  Please don’t stay away.

  3. I hope that you don’t quit us cold turkey and that you come back and visit from time to time. You’re an important part of this community as well as the Denver and State Democratic Party. I’m sure you have many adventures ahead of you in the other areas you focus on, but please consider giving good ol’ politics a few hours/month for old times sake.

  4. Vanity won out, so I checked in to see what was being said about me and realized I didn’t mention any details about the “why”.

I have two BIG things going on in my life:

    1. I have a book coming out in the late fall about the Imperial Family of Russia and their descendants living today. This will likely be my last book about royalty (it is my 4th). I am also anticipating it to be the best selling of my books by far since it has more general appeal than the others. They were very specific to genealogy and to the families they covered.

    2. I am going back to school to complete my degree and pursue my next career (and childhood love): astronomy. I intend to work in the field of planetary science and exploration. Two specific areas of interest to me: finding other life-sustaining planets in our neck of the galaxy, and, closer to home, what mysteries are still locked beneath Europa’s apparently thin ice crust (It’s a moon of Jupiter). Plans to explore this moon have been back-burnered by Nasa in favor of a couple of other outer solar system projects.

So, no I am not dying, and I’m not bouncing off the walls of a psych ward somewhere. However, this may count as my mid-life crisis. But it did come a little early since I am only 39 cough cough
