typical Republican hypocrisy

At least most Republicans do not claim to be free of special interest taint. McCain is noxious since he claims to be, but is not.
If the Dems know what is good for them ( a big 'if'), they will ram this hypocrisy down McCain's throat. Of course, the media needs to make an issue of it as well, but they still seem under McSame's spell.

He does not have the funds or name recognition, and not nearly as charismatically wacky as Ron Paul. Might get a few votes, but nothing that will make things interesting.
Other than Libertarians' views on Iraq, it is a dying political philosophy, since their economic views are clearly out of touch with reality. People want government to fix problems and provide oversight on the economy. Libertarians do not.
Their 'freedom' message is alluring, but ultimately false since under Libertarianism our economy would collapse into something resembling the developing world, with a few rich people and everyone else poor.

...is that with four of seven CDs having chosen delegates, Obama got 14, Hillary 8, a net gain for Obama of 6.
Most detailed tallies of pledged delegates do not list Colorado delegates at all, since the CD conventions were the first time actual pledged delegates were chosen.
Imagine if these had been "superdelegates"!!! Tomorrow would be a national holiday.
Your point is that we should accept an unacceptable standard.
Just because your sub contractor hires an electrician to to a job to code, if he can't communicate with the other workers or read the code, just because he has a job does not mean he is competent to do the job. Requiring his supervisor to speak Spanish and read the code to him just masks the problem and costs the jobs of all the supervisors that don't speak Spanish.

He's a Liar

It took me a while to find this, but I remember Gardner writing an Op-Ed about how our state budget works, where about half of it was lies.
I'm sure Republicans Al White and Steve Johnson were fuming after this shameless lie about their months upon months of work on the budget.

Ultimately, the Appropriations Committee spent about 20 minutes to discuss the bill before it was voted out of committee. It was approved by a vote of 12-1. If you do the math, 20 minutes to discuss the budget breaks down to about $900 million a minute.

I don't have a problem with his brash style of politics, nor his smug and condescending attitude, as much as I do with his seemingly easy ability to lie to voters for pure political sport.

It may be true (or charming nostalgia for the world before G.W. Bush got ahold of it, among other changes under way).
But Chris didn't ask why people should have to learn English. He asked why it's fine for Americans to skip learning another language. Changing world, global marketplace, cultural richness, ordering around the groundskeepers and all.

I'll answer.

Because English is the "lingua franca."
It's not just here. It's not just Europe. It's world-wide. Countries where people learn two or three or four languages? 99% of the time one of those languages is ENGLISH even when an English speaking country is a a thousand miles away. Why? Because, as the dominant world power, people who want to play in our world - financially and otherwise - learn English. Pure. Plain. Simple. Unequivocal.

Oh, how we love Cory Gardner. Imagine a cooler version of Annette Benning in "American Beauty". Think, "I will sell this house today!" The guy just doesn't stop - and the fact that he's stuck in a House with Democrat majority rule seems to only inspire this former Allard staffer to work that much harder. He has been a constant crusader for limited government, lower taxes, and small business. Republicans are lucky to have him around.

You know, I'm with Danny on this one. There's nothing like "a cooler version of Annette Benning in 'American Beauty'" to make me want to drive six-inch nails in my skull.
I'm glad the Republicans can stand the guy. He's the human fingernail on the legislative chalkboard, far as I'm concerned.

Let me lay it down.
Huck is a great campaigner. He speaks american and in rough economic times he can dampen the McCain "sorry toots your on your own" economic plan. He will also help in the states that touch appalachia, missouri and the south. However the shots he took against the LDS church will hurt the ticket in the west. Why? Given McCain's age the vice president (or even vp candidate) is likely to be the next GOP president/nominee. There are plenty of Mormons who are pissed at Huck. and don't get me started on what the AEI types think of Huck.
Mitt on the other hand is the guy who fires you. Won't help on economic issues, because even though he understands them his resume makes it clear he's on the other side of them from the average voter. This combined with the alienness of the LDS church to folks in the south and appalachia will hurt the ticket in those regions.
I suspect McCain will take a 0: someone who won't help or hurt much, but may take a single state like Pawlenty.

Say you are from Mexico and you have maybe an 8th grade education and just basic job skills. What do you get if you learn English? Not much in return as you still have basically the same job opportunities.
More to the point, what advantages does someone in that position see as advantages from the effort of learning English. And it is a major effort that takes years.
At the same time they are working 2 or 3 jobs and are exhausted at the end of each day. Learning English takes up a giant part of their remaining time.
The wonder is not that some do not learn English, the wonder is that so many do put in the effort.

Aesthetics applied to digital communications generated by personal computers attached to external communication modalities

We have given full consideration to submitting in triplcate the aforewritten comment regarding the aesthetic qualities of language when applied to informal communications over digital networks that enable inter-computer communications using a common protocol to a committee of experts judged to be expert by the Committee on Judging Qualified Experts Expert. Please rest assured that the fullest range of modalities used for translating thoughts into formats capable of being understood by the widest variety of communicants, including readers, listeners, and perceptors of visual signals transmitted by hand, arm, facial, and body movements, have been taken into due consideration by your co-communicant. As stated at the outset and repeated here for purposes of freshening the minds of any communicants prone to losing track of precise, detailed communications, initially consideration was given to submitting the aforementioned aesthetic judgment to a committee comprised of duly qualified individuals who, having completed an extensive set of educational procedures that included rigorous examination and testing to standards set by committees of experts on testing standards, were judged by your communicant as being capable of delivering a considered opinion that would, upon careful consideration by all communicants and participants, including the mentally challenged, blind, deaf, and those judged insensitive to smell and taste, be considered worthy of further discussion and, said inter-communicant communications having been completed, judged of value in promoting the common, mutual understanding of all parties to the aforementioned discussion. Over the passage of time as measured by the proportion of the currently-inhabited planet's daily rotation, on its axis, while simultaneously circumambulating around the closest star, and after consultation with individuals thought to have valued opinions on this question, it was decided to delay answering the aforewritten comment pending further thought processes and evaluations as enhanced by a period of diurnal rest and repose uninterrupted by interruptions. However, lest such a delay lead to the misleading conclusion on the part of any communicant privy to the aforementioned aesthetic judgment, we felt it advisable, necessary, and required by a respectful consideration of the high esteem in which the aesthete is held, to avoid negatively impacting the opinions and judgments of the aforementioned and togethergathered, to advise that this delay would take place without delay. At the same time, a sense of protocol and social adjustment as acquired through several years of intense study, instruction, testing, and research, appeared to direct your correspondent to advise of the delay caused by the need to fully consider not only the aforementioned opinion, but in fact the larger scope of the subject raised, namely, the aesthetic qualities of written, spoken, and other communications, which considerations are mentioned in order to underscore and emphasize the need for an appropriate passage of time as herein further defined to pass in order that a fully considered opinion that will withstand close scrutiny may be generated and commuicated in a fashion and words appropriate to the subject; and furthermore, to advise that the aforementioned delay notwithstanding full attention is being paid at all times to the good opinion of the opinionator.
