The Savior or Sacrificial Lamb?

( - promoted by Colorado Pols)

August 15th marks the deadline for Bob Beauprez to announce his pick for running mate.

The Denver Post today had a quick rundown, with John Marshall (BB spokesman) saying that Beauprez's running mate "will be a good compliment to our ticket" but that "people will be more focused on Bob Beauprez and why he's going to make a good governor."

ToTheRight also has a rundown, at
http://totheright.or...

Will the pick balance the ticket? Help fire up the base? Bring in more money? Campaign hard? Attract unaffiliated voters? Minorities? Be a good soldier for the top of the ticket? We'll know more in the next eight days.

(Republicans will remember the pick of Norton, and how that announcement -- veiled in secrecy -- was finally leaked three days beforehand when Norton's aide admitted that Jane had a hair appointment the day before the scheduled announcement at Hudson Gardens.)

let's see
.....he can be politically savvy or increadably stupid with this choice.  Does he pick an Owens hack? Current or former legislator? Or go the route Ritter did and pick an unknown.  Mike Beasley, Lynn Hefley, Gigi Dennis, Matt Smith, Greg Walcher, Tambor Williams, Jane Norton, Lionel Riverra, Greg Brophy, Mike May, and Don Lee are all floating through my imagination. Norton though would most certainly have a leg up.

Obvious
Everybody knows the clear choice is Marc Holtzman.

Damn straight!
After all the fighting, the makeup, er, ticket balancing between these two should be dynamite.

I think so
I'd agree with you Fidel.  Holtzman would be a savvy choice.  Not only for the obvious reason, but he also is a West Slope guy and I think he'd be good for the BB camp.

[ Parent ]
Why would Marc want to???!???
After being strung out by the Benson/Owens cabal and ripped to shreds by Marshal and his rumor mill????

Why would Marc want to carry Bob's water for the next couple of months let alone for years??

Let Bob find a Gigi replacement and go to the center as planned.  He'll make his bed and have to lie in it.....just leave the conservatives out of it.

I think...
... that, in the event of a Beauprez/Holzman ticket and victory, old Both Ways Bob would meet with an unfortunate accident within 3 months of inauguration. Holzy could bite his tongue til then.

a few more
I’m sure the list could be as long as every registered Republican in the state (since the BothWays camp is completely lost) but why not include other ranking Republicans John Andrews, Caldera our Doug Bruce (personally not a supporter) if you want to rally the base?  Oh right, BothWaysBob wants the support of the base while completely neglecting their interests and upsetting guys like this bunch.

There are other wing nuts that BothWays could choose, such as our very own beloved humanitarian Jim Welker.  I’m sure he could write the press releases and speeches for Bob.

If Bob is looking for someone to fit into his flight suit (who actually served) he could pick up dinosaur Lew Entz, although at his age that would resemble the Perot ticket.

Mike Beasely could help show that the R's are fiscally responsible such as spending millions of homeland security money on an empty office.

If they are looking for someone outside of CD5 I guess Ed Jones and David Schulthies are out of contention, although those two together would make a great ticket with the campaign for Dumb & Dumber.  But, why not Kevin Lundberg or Greg Brophy, who can recite the bible on demand but might forget a constitutional amendment or two (depending on sex, age, race or religion.)

If Tancredo was not running for President he would be an great choice to rile the base with.

Im just stating the obvious of the copious elected Republicans that BothWaysBob has to choose from to be on his bumper sticker.  I guess, since he likes to have it both ways, he could run for Lt. Governor as well!

Who will write the best columns for the Post?
The real question is, which of the prospects can write a decent column for the Post after losing in Nov.?

BB will choose a candidate who can rally the base of activists, both of the ones still standing, and do no harm.

Please, oh PLEEEAAASSSE
Doug Bruce - It would be the be all and end all of bad campaign humor. You may not know him but El Paso County does. However, it is also the only way I can see Bill Ritter coming out of El Paso County with a lead - maybe not such a good idea.

snark

Beauprez/Hickenlooper

The ticket would be a landslide if people were able to vote before the choice made their heads explode.

Coffman?
Interesting, that website ToTheRight is the first place I've seen the possibilty raised that Coffman could be the Lt. Guv nominee since he has gotten back from Iraq and Gigi dropped out. Is it going to be Coffman?

Both Ways Bob/Marine Mike '06
The Coffman for Lt. Gov. rumor has been around for a while.  Ever since GiGi soiled herself politically by striking the Little Fella's petition signatures and in so doing, disqualified herself for Lt. Gov.

no way
no. the last thing mike wants is to be bobs whipping boy. he's his own man.

[ Parent ]
He's not a man
He's been riding the coat tails of Bill Owens throughout his political career, I would not consider that being your own man.

Uh Huh
>August 15th marks the deadline for Bob Beauprez to
>announce his pick for running mate.

Yeah but how long does he have to change his mind?

Whoever takes Lt. Gov. has to be a loser
Why would anyone want the job?

Maybe it's good for a fly fisherman?

running mates
This reflects my attititude too. Who cares about running mates? I guess a certain percentage of the electorate must, but I've never cast a vote for a presidential or gubernatorial candidate based on the running mate.
