Sniff

For the second consecutive year, Colorado Pols is the Reader's Choice as Best Political Blog in Westword's annual "Best of Denver" issue.

Thanks to Westword and everyone who voted for us.

Congratulations to Progress Now for winning Westword's choice as best blog, but we are the people's champion. So take that!

people's champion in Denver amongst those who read "Westword"
Oh my! Be still my thundering heart as I read the "Westword" advertisement which helps keep the site alive.

Mutuality - goes with the center stripe on roads. What do the studies of where road-kill groups in connection with the center line show?

You think Westword pays us for that ad?
Uh, right.

[ Parent ]
then what does having an advertisement in the right column mean?
Right across the top of the page is a right-hand banner which says: ADVERTISE HERE - ALL OF THE COOL KIDS ARE DOING IT - followed by an e-mail address. Then part way down the right side area is a "thingee" that says "Advertise here" -- and below that is a link to "Westword" that looks like an advertisement.

So they don't pay you for that? Then you give it to them because their "Reader's Choice" somehow designated this site as "Best Blog?"

So what can the user/readers conclude about what is advertised here?

So much for "paid" advertising. Who is paying the bills?

[ Parent ]
Okay, genius, we'll bring out the crayons for you.
WE put that image there to promote OURSELVES.

Have you ever been to a restaurant that has their "Best of Denver" awards inside? It makes us look good to promote that we won this award, which is why we put the image there.

[ Parent ]
OH NO!!!
NOW 'HOTLINE' IS PAYING YOU ALL!!!

[ Parent ]
If we had a dollar...
For every suggested source of money that this site supposedly gets, we'd really be rich. If only there were some big 'ol checks that we could cash...

[ Parent ]
Don't cash mine 'til the 15th of April.
aaaiiight

[ Parent ]
Oh my word, you are so smooth - crayons for the retarded!
You give free advertising space to "Westword" to promote yourself. O.K. Got it. You could roundup a few dozen homeless in LoDo and have them vote you an award based on the quality of the free lunch your passed out; and post that also.

Factually, I have not been to a restaurant which has a magnificant display of their "Best of Denver" awards for the folks waiting in line to be turned on by. Perhaps that is because I don't hang out in Denver. If I did have to use a restaurant in Denver, I would be much more interested in the latest health department's inspection report about the live-in rats and an honest report of the fat and salt they were pushing in their over-priced food. I don't need some food dilettante to tell me what food I should enjoy.

I'm happy that you think it makes you look good to post your prize as if it were a paid advertisement. There are enough prize awarding outfits that almost anyone can have several prizes to post. Hell, high school ROTC has ribbons for the kids to pin on their uniforms to mimic the eight rows of ribbons that generals and admirals have to have to prove they got their card punched.

[ Parent ]
Well, okay
Sorry you're so angry about all of this.

[ Parent ]
Uh, if Westword were paying for the ad, wouldn't Westword award the title to Pols rather to a different blog?
So as to direct traffic to its ad?

???

[ Parent ]
er.. rather THAN to a different blog?

[ Parent ]
Congratulations!

Awesome!
I can't see why people would blog on progressnow because they're so far left wing on there--it gets boring reading the same stuff from the same people.

Congrats Pols, but...
Blah about Progress Now.

Westword credits them with "creating the catchy "Both Ways Bob" campaign." Um, yeah... Because a bunch of conservatives in Colorado Springs voted for Ritter because they read Progress Now. Whatever.

What's your hard-on for Progress Now?
You seem to have a real grudge against them.

They take credit
For things that the influenced at best. I have no problem with a group trying to get things done, but if it gets to their head and they think that every project that they worked on, and that happened to succeed, was their doing... it is going to cause problems.

In addition, they are taking sides in the internal fights of the Democratic party. It is the same thing that irks me about Colorado Confidential (although they do it less than Progress Now). This is what happens EVERY time we take the majority anywhere in this country. Some group gets it in their head that they are the real Democrats and can dictate the direction things take. Then the entire party gets painted as extremists like that group. Then we lose. YAY!!

[ Parent ]
I see.
I don't agree with you though, and looking at the national awards they won for the 2006 elections I'm not sure many other people will either. They're in the news practically every week-

I live in Jeffco and have attended MANY Progress Now meetings, their conference call party with John Edwards for Amendment 42, and their RootsCamp conference last month. I get a daily news email from them that is absolutely incredible, my friend who also is a fan turned me on to them. I donate to them.

Maybe there's something I don't know. I read Progress Now's blog all the time, I see nothing there to indicate they are "taking sides in the internal fights of the Democratic party." They go after Salazar once in a while: who doesn't? Is this about Amendment 41? The CD-7 primary?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not attacking you, I want to know more.

[ Parent ]
I'm probably being a little unfair
I'm sure they do a lot of good work. I've just been annoyed at some of their childish name calling lately. I think stuff like that makes liberals look bad in general.

As to internal stuff, I am talking about Amendment 41. I understand that Polis is on their board of directors, but I don't think that makes it ok for them to take such an obviously biased stance on an important intra-party issue. The argument is important, but lets keep it in house. Why feed ammo to the wolves when we don't have to.

[ Parent ]
Sounds like
It sounds like you're talking about Be The Change, not Progress Now.

[ Parent ]
ummm
weren't you the one up in arms over progress now (in your view) forcing McInnis out of the race? You seem to give them a lot of credit, except when you don't.

[ Parent ]
Ah
The classic flip-flop attack. How creative.
