The Colorado Democratic Party has called on Secretary of State Mike Coffman to resign, saying "Coffman has failed miserably in his attempts to instill the confidence and trust the voting public deserves in the elections process." Release follows.

Party Chair Calls On Coffman To Resign
Before Its Too Late To Hold Valid Elections
Denver, CO - Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party, today called for Secretary of State Mike Coffman to resign from his office, which is under a cloud of controversy deriving from his decision to invalidate much of Colorado's voting equipment.
"The public's confidence in the elections process continues to erode under the watch of this Secretary of State whose essential role is to fulfill his responsibilities as the state's chief elections officer," said Waak. "Coffman has failed miserably in his attempts to instill the confidence and trust the voting public deserves in the elections process. He needs to leave."
In recent weeks Coffman has decertified voting machines leaving the majority of Colorado's 64 counties scrambling to figure out how to hold elections. Allegations of impropriety also have been leveled against the Secretary of State regarding the use of a political consultant advocating for one of the voting machine providers while also providing services in Coffmans bid to run for congress.
Recent developments, according to the Denver Post have Coffman suggesting that his first decertification process may have been flawed. His latest antics suggest that a wink and a nod to Denver elections officials may be good enough to certify Denver's voting equipment.
"The Secretary of State is the chief elections officer for all Coloradans therefore the office can be no less than transparent when dealing with the fundamental voting rights of every qualified citizen in our state," said Waak. "There appears to be a lack of transparency when it comes to Coffman's ability to guarantee Coloradans an honest and accurate elections process, he needs to go."

Just a thought: I f the voting machines are bad this year

weren't they bad in 2006? Given the close nature of his race maybe he isn't the SoS anyway.

The GOP should call for Ritter's resignation based on his sell out to unions and his general incompetence.

Ritter's incompetence? You gotta be joking. Far more competent than Owens, who was a sellout to the paving lobby and other interests.

In case you haven't noticed, in this country we tend to not shoot or recall our officials because we disagree with things that that did. Oh, yeah, unless its a blow job between Democrats.

But I suppose such facts are lost on you.

Coffman needs one job only

He's trying to do two jobs: Run elections and get elected. And he's kind of sucking at both. His SoS scandals are not winning him any votes, and the security of the 2008 election in Colorado is definitely questionable at this point...

Coffman may have seemed like he had more experience or at least that little (R) after his name on the ballot, but we should have had Ken Gordon in there all along. He had a better plan and was willing to put this job first and foremost.

Coffman is an embarrassment to his own party

As a proud republican, I am so disappointed in Mike. I do not agree that he should resign, but rather pull out of the CD-6 race and focus on getting the voting machine mess taken care of. He made this bed, now he should sleep in it.

Coffman is dealing with tough issues

And he admits he's made some mistakes. Voters will see him as a guy who shoots straight, and thats what we want in a Congressman.

All of this will be forgotten by primary day.

He has no credibility

to continue as a trustworhty Secretary of State. He's past the point of harmlessness and is becoming a far greater threat to protecting the vote than Katherine Harris.

You're absolutely right. But right or wrong has nothing to do with it. This is politics.

I just think the Colorado Democratic Party would want to leave him right where he is as a poster boy for Republican incompetence.

Is the party really that selfish?

I get that politics are politics, but would the Colorado Dems really be that selfish? We need an SoS who works for all of Colorado, in a nonpartisan fashion, not just an R or a D working for their party. (Yes, I'm dreaming.)
There are plenty of other examples of incompetance on both sides of the political spectrum. We don't need an example in charge of the elections! We need someone who cares.

Bring in Ken Gordon.

There's partisan politics, and then there's duty to our country (state, local government, etc.). Coffman has landed us in "don't trust the system" territory, and that's no good for the state or country.

Ken Gordon is a hard left guy who would be nowhere as honest as Coffman

All you have to do is listen to Gordon on the tube. He's out in left field, and I wouldn't trust him for a minute. He's a machine politician.
