"Vagina DeGette," Anyone?

by: Colorado Pols

Thu Feb 19, 2009 at 13:01:18 PM MST

In the spirit of a week already thick with examples of GOP regettable behavior, Colorado Media Matters dutifully reports:

KHOW's Boyles repeatedly distorted Rep. DeGette's name with female genital reference

Discussing President Obama's signing of the economic recovery bill at a ceremony in Denver, 630 KHOW-AM's Peter Boyles on his February 18 program repeatedly referred to one of the ceremony attendees, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Denver), as "Vagina DeJet" and "Vagina DeGette."

Boyles and his guests, state Sen. David Schultheis (R-Colorado Springs) and Independence Institute President Jon Caldara, were discussing both the February 17 bill signing at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and a concurrent protest outside the state Capitol by conservatives. Boyles noted that he went from the protest, where Schultheis and Caldara both spoke, to the signing ceremony, where DeGette was among approximately 200 attendees.

Boyles referred to the congresswoman by the name "Vagina DeJet," then as "Vagina DeGette," and repeatedly played a brief audio clip of the president mispronouncing DeGette's last name -- which has a hard "G" sound -- as "DeJet," as well as an altered version of the clip...

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Senator Schultheis? Any shame at all? We know Jon "Dildo Art" Caldara has none, but but you're an elected official. Is this the decorum you show for your colleagues? Do you really think it was a good idea to just sit there and chuckle along? What are you, 12 years old?

Seriously--no shame, Republicans, at long last? Is there nobody on the right side of the aisle, in either officialdom or public prominence, to take ownership of your messaging, to put a stop to this extreme lack of civility--nobody who will call this out?

Suit yourselves, but don't you ever accuse us of "lowering the level of political discourse" again.

So the President can't pronounce her name,
probably because ... well ... we all slip up once in a while. Then the radio show guy has some fun with it and furthers his humor by putting some Freudian spin into the mix.

Boring, NEXT.

That's right
Keep telling yourself that.

Then tell me how this can help win the soccer-mom vote in 2010.

As long as talk radio is the voice of the republican party, you'll have a hard time reclaiming the majority. I'm glad that anchor is around your neck.

Radio hosts don't care about the soccer mom vote
They don't even care about Republicans winning.  They can be very successful and make lots of money with their loyal following. It may be shrinking in terms of political strength but is still a huge reliable audience demo.  Having Dems in power to attack will be just great for them. You didn't think Limbaugh and his clones actually cared about an agenda, did you?

[ Parent ]
Just as James Watt was good for the Sierra club
Obama is good for Limbaugh.

Libertad, though, may actually care about elections. And while he may dismiss Peter Boyles as so much theater, not everyone will.

[ Parent ]
Yeah, so many Moms listen to this show...
They are at work (home, office or road) or working out listening to their ipod.

I love the Freudian spin though ... some words they can't say on the radio and this gets the humor across without any need for special nuance.

[ Parent ]
The humor?

Never assume "shill" when "idiot" is available as an explanation. [h/t Ralphie]

[ Parent ]
what words?
What word should they use Libertad? You can say whatever you want here, enlighten us.

[ Parent ]
"get the humor"
So what is it? What's the punchline? Tee hee hee, DeGette has a "vagina?" What is the point of this if it's not to childishly DeGette--simply because she is a woman?

Sorry if I'm not catching on fast enough, I've been out of elementary school for awhile.

Sorry, but as much as you try, I just can't buy in to the idea that every Democrat is evil except for Andrew Romanoff.

[ Parent ]
Seriously?
You're defending this?

You must really enjoy being in the embattled minority.

[ Parent ]
Belay that outrage, sailor.
It's freakin' Libertad.

His hobby is wanking to pictures of Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin.

You're trying to interpret his posts in some logical context.  Forget it.  He's purely hormonal.

[ Parent ]
The whole event was rather juvenile, but my post got you all so wound up
ps I think she's been called worse (different word, same context) by those in her own party.

Remember a few years back when she went on TV election day trashing the Denver voting ... if I recall Hickenlooper was so overjoyed. Was she right, hell yes. Did it hack off Hickenlooper, you bet it did.

So as I said ...

Boring, NEXT.

[ Parent ]
You block quote
your own quotes?

That's precious.

[ Parent ]
If I didn't do it like that
you'd claim I was violating some blogging rule. You are still all wound up on this ... you need to focus on things in life that you can control.

[ Parent ]
All wound up
I'd have to say

you're right

except it's not something, as you say,

out of anyone's control.

[ Parent ]
Just reread all the comments and
yours come across as the most wound up, Libertad, as usual.

[ Parent ]
Peter? Peter Boyles?
Is that you?

[ Parent ]
You are singularly annoying
I'll let Crystal handle this.

Sorry, but as much as you try, I just can't buy in to the idea that every Democrat is evil except for Andrew Romanoff.

[ Parent ]
Vagina DeJet
cool, but Crystal, Bill, Phil, the German douche or the French hussy voices of text to speech are cute, but they won't carry the day.

By next week you'll be using it rather sparingly I predict.

ps Vagina DeJet

[ Parent ]
Elected officials chuckling on-air about vaginas?
That's not just a little odd to you?

[ Parent ]
Elected officials whipping out their junk, that's odd
Colorado Pols not trashing the GOP or anyone affiliated with them, that's odd too.

This was juvenile, but you all took time to layout a big old diary on it. I lay in my comment and wait for it, wait for it ... get shelled by the peanut gallery.

[ Parent ]
I'm surprised a Boyles
Seems out of character to me.

Not smart. Not funny.

[ Parent ]
Thank you AS
I'm not surprised, and I don't think it's that out of character, but I'm glad you don't find it the least bit funny.

[ Parent ]
I'm still giggling
I guess I'm juvenile too. However, I'm not surprised Boyles did this ... he's a bit of a freak.

As an example the freak he put out over the birthplace and qualifications for the Presidency of BHO.

[ Parent ]
I guess...
Mr. Boyles is tired of being called "Peter"...

"But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."  Glenn Beck

Seriously
I would expect this from 3rd graders. Grown men don't act like this--especially not on the public airwaves.

Maybe Peter Boyles is going to try out to be the next Bababooie on the Howard Stern show.

I just got back from behind the Zion Curtain...
and(although I did get a couple of diaries up)have been checking in here less often (and none today), but this is truly over the top.

I loved how some posters here, Caldera, and others have been excusing swastika guy's  presence on stage at a controlled (and state GOP pushed and possibly permitted) rally on the West Steps of the Colorado Capitol, and that it does not at all reflect at all (let alone poorly) on the state GOP.   Now Tadpole's efforts to defend this crude (and repeated) remark as subtle humor while a state GOP senator chuckles along like a middleschooler.

Driving back I dialed into Hannity part of the way, his show now called 'conservatism in exile' perhaps picked up from his days secretly listening to Amy Goodman to hear what good radio journalism is like.

In any case its pretty desperate stuff.  I was thinking along the lines of what I read above, that he's just milking his audience with all his arrogant grandstanding and over-the-top Obama-bashing.  Keeps the ad revenue up.  (Ironically including an ad for help getting in on the government credit card 'bail out' to wipe away debt, but I digress).

The Faux Noise crew, Hannity, Beck etc. are totally psyched for the next 8 years, its definitely good for business.  As long as the GOP--state or otherwise--is playing along, begging for forgiveness when they happen to vary from the Rushbot talking points, and giggling at crass humor, their days 'in exile' are far from over.

Oftentimes people are exiled for reasons--and it does mean that someone sent them away.  When your a political party that's probably NOT a good sign.  A huckster, perhaps then it is.  The GOP should think carefully how they want their image defined, and how it might get them (or not) to 50% + 1.

Everyday its something new.  At some point it will become an embarrassment, even to me.  Right now I find it amusing, and its certainly a GOP liability.

I actually remember Fox being somewhat decent in the 90s
They used to have Jeff Cohen from FAIR on as a regular guest. As someone who thinks the role of the media should be to view everything with a critical eye, and as someone who wasn't a big fan of Clinton, I thought they were kind of useful.

It's weird to think about it now, but there was a time when Fox would occasionally discuss things seriously, while CNN and MSNBC would always be full of stupid shit. Doubt that'll happen again though.

[ Parent ]
I will tell you what pisses me off
I think Representative DeGette will survive the boys in the back row of the radio third grade which is the boyles show.

But that sob Boyles went after a kid in high school who reported seeing "guns" in a car.  Boyles called him "smoker boy" and implied he was a "rat" and boyles talked about how he knew "rat hunters" whose job it was to "hunt rats." The "power of the morning show" to  target a high school kid in a threatening way is truly horrific.  I wrote that up here...and none of you guys gave a good god damm.  No sex, I guess.

So spare me the "I am shocked, shocked to hear women exploited" on hate radio and  yuck it up about Diana, who can certainly handle herself.    ...but who is going to bell that dry drunk for going after  kids???

It is not OKAY to bully kids.

If we are lucky, the only thing which happens when adults bully kids is that the kids grow up to be drunks...and bullies, and  get gigs on hate radio keeping the myth alive that picking on people who can't fight back is the only way to win.

Talk Radio - The weapon to divide and conquer America....but who is funding it?

If Boyles didn't have a morning show
I'd wonder if he wasn't sundowning with these episodes. Seriously, he's always been a nut but lately (including the rant dwyer references) he's sounded like he's really come unmoored.

[ Parent ]
Well, I don't know if it means anything...
But Boyles did write in a recent column of his that he's "detoxed" off of his psych meds. Check it out:

[ Parent ]
He is an ass...
Remember what he did to the Ramseys?  He spent five years convicting parents whose daughter had been murdered of doing the killing themselves....and has yet to issue an apology even though they have been cleared...

"But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."  Glenn Beck

[ Parent ]
Maybe he needs to get lanced
Just let all the puss out at once so the healing can begin.

Does Boyles need his KHOW paycheck?
Way past time for him to go.

I used to listen pretty regularly some years ago, but it sounds like he is perpetually off of the deep end now.

I'll never forget listening to him and getting my introduction to what we now call 9/11.  "This just came in. A plane has crashed into one of the World Trade towers. Don't know if it is a private or commercial plane."  I went and turned on the TV (how rare!) and, as they say, the rest is history.

More disgusting behavior
Rep.DeGette has done a good job in District 1.

She deserves respect.

I suppose that if the right wing is down to name calling then they pretty much can't go much lower.

I agree
Rep. DeGette deserves to be respected for her good work. I admire her. She does not need to comment or respond. These comments speak for themselves.
