Alamosa County GOP: “Republicans hate poor people”

SATURDAY POLS UPDATE: Seriously, did they get hacked or something? Alamosa Republicans issue an apology that reads like The Onion:

It’s unclear who the first-person possessive in this apology is referring to, though it’s suggested in the comments to the original post that Alamosa City Councilor David Broyles is the author.

But perhaps it’s better to think of this as, you know, every Alamosa Republican saying sorry.

The Alamosa County Republican party posted on its Facebook page today, publicly stating that “Republicans hate poor people.”

“Out of self-respect–be Republican. Democrats love poor people because they think that poor people will vote Democrat. Republicans hate poor people because they think the dignity of man is above being poor.“

In the fourteen hours since the statement posted, it has been “liked” by two people, but generated opposition from several other commenters, including one who asked for the statement to be taken down.

The four officers of the county party are Sandra Wagner, Chairman; David Broyles, Vice Chairman; Valerie Broyles, Secretary; and Patrick Shima, Treasurer.

Republicans in Alamosa County include US Congressman Scott Tipton who represents the Third District in part from his office in Alamosa, and State Senator Larry Crowder of SD35, who lives in Alamosa County.

    1. I'm guessing the Alamosa Republicans have said worse and yet Rs still get elected.

      Of the 64 Colorado counties, a handful of have less than 1500 residents.  Alamosa has over 15,000.  Poverty is relative.  And they vote R.

       

  3. If you define love as "wanting the best for another," some of us Democrats love all people — including the poor.

    Not because of how they vote, but because they are people. Even when they are misguided and vote Republican, people are worthy of love.

  8. Did someone ask for specifics to back the comments in the retraction? Republicans loving the poor and helping the poor are good ideas … and I'd love to hear about them.

     

    1. We could start with their apocalyptic opposition to PayDay loans reform? General opposition to supporting rural hospitals when not cornered like a rat in a trap?

    1. Maybe Republicans shouldn't write "Republicans hate poor people".

      Also, what do you call the way luminaries of your party like Laura Ingraham and Ted Nugent engaging in personal attacks on the Parkland survivors.  I call that smearing.

       

      BTW, I heard you had proof that Obama illegally obtained data to win elections.  Time to pony up.
