Stepping aside in the race for Colorado Governor reveals Senator Josh Penry’s understanding: sometimes being a leader means acting as a team player. Penry ran a tremendous campaign, raised nearly ½ million dollars, and harnessed a host of endorsements. Senator Penry’s decision to fight for another day speaks to his vision as a statesmen.
“I’m disappointed he’s out of the race because he’s one of the brightest lights in the Republican party, but he’s doing it for the right reasons and this is not the last we’ll see of Josh Penry,” Witwer said. (GJDS 11/10/09)
The Colorado GOP agrees and pols readers thank Penry for the opportunity to debate Colorado’s issues of the day. Thank you Senator Penry.

What I meant was what this quote from the Denver Business Journal was getting at:
even pols readers from the left, like Twitty, had to have appriciated an effective communicator like Penry in the campaign.
figuratively speaking, of course.
“untethered to facts” is how I would describe Penry’s communication style. Is it effective? Perhaps, if you are working to motivate the uninformed with fear-tactics, misrepresentations, and red herring issues.
I did appreciate that the GOP had two opponents duking it out in the primary, and I hope that Tancredo jumps in now to keep McInnis fighting for the Teabag endorsement. But I don’t see Josh’s quick folding as ‘leadership.’ I tend to think he doesn’t want to end his quest for power, that he got educated on the shitstorm about to come his way, and that he has real concerns about what is in that storm–of which perhaps we will never know.
This is the worst I’ve seen. He inspiring you to quit?
We’ll do it never!! Amazing leadership. If only he would’ve stopped before taking jabs at McInnis. Fine by me, I’ll take mildly crappy Ritter over any of the GOP’s candidates.
I think he did the right thing both for himself and for the Party, I’ll grant you that. Avoiding an ugly primary in order to focus solely on Ritter for the next 11 months puts the Republican Party in a very sweet position of strength.
However, I’m not entirely convinced he did it so much because he’s such a leader (and let’s face it–his campaign was a picture of failure in how to communicate, not a success) but because it suited his own purposes, both politically and personally.
…the GOP calls leaders. You can call it doing what’s best for the party, but Palin quitting as Gov, Penry quitting here – it’s not leading by any definition of the word.
when you stop leading you are providing leadership. 1 + 1 = 3, etc. etc.
Shrinking government, one governor at a time.
