Colorado’s economy is booming, but not everyone is sharing in the good times.

With the cost of living in Colorado soaring, thousands of working families are forced every year to turn to unscrupulous “payday lenders” who charge incredibly high interest rates on small loans. Because of the high cost of borrowing from payday lenders, borrowers frequently end up in a cycle of repeated borrowing they can’t escape—enriching predatory lenders at the expense of those who can least afford it.

Colorado has tried several times to reform payday lending, but it hasn’t done enough for working families. So this year we’re trying a different approach. Tomorrow morning, join ProgressNow Colorado, Operation HOPE, the Bell Policy Center, Denver community and faith leaders, and Coloradans just like you as this coalition launches a ballot initiative campaign to cap payday loan interest rates at 36%.

This has to happen in spite of political climates or coercions, in spite of careers being won or lost, in spite of the fear of being criticized, outcast, or disliked. I believe freedom begins with naming things. Humanity is preserved by it.”

Keeping Colorado Affordable Gubernatorial Forum

The First Amendment promises both the freedom of and freedom from religion. But as faith plays an increasingly prominent role in American politics, preserving the boundary between religion and government is more vital (and challenging) than ever. Join us for a town hall exploring the use and misuse of religious liberty in contemporary public life, featuring a discussion of the issues at stake in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission and state-level efforts to use religious freedom as a license to discriminate, especially against LGBTQI members of our community.

Cervezas for Causes with Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition

Each week Cerveceria Colorado partners with a non-profit to have a celebratory happy hour with proceeds benefiting that non-profit. This week, we are celebrating Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition. CIRC believes in the inherent dignity and human rights of every person, regardless of immigration status. CIRC envisions a society in which all women, men and children are treated with dignity and respect and have equal access to fair and just work, housing, health care, and education and the opportunity to live united with family members.
