From huffington post.
The Senate health care bill is so compromised, some progressives argue, that it would be better to try to kill it than fight for its passage.
In light of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s decision to give in to Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and agree to scrap a Medicare compromise, and with the public option already off the table, many ardent supporters of health care reform are giving up on the legislation.
While I have been fortunate to have been part of a company that offers a good health care plan. However many of my friends and acquaintances in the tech sector have not been as lucky. Many of them work on contract jobs, hired through recruiters, which generally do not provide any health care. With the removal of the public option and the attempted compromise of dropping Medicare to 55, it pretty much leaves all the young professionals just starting out with pretty much nothing unless they get in with a company that will offer some form of healthcare.
So here is my question to our current senators. Why? While I understand that seniority and position are important in a debate of this magnitude, why are we removing ways to include people. The senate seems to spend more of its time debating ways to remove people and services from the health care bill.
While I have been a democrat for only 9 years, I joined because I started to see that there were problems that the market was not addressing. I voted for Obama hoping that this problem with health care would at least provide insurance for those that would be hard pressed to buy it on their own.
So I again ask if they were so committed to the Public Option, why it was removed to appease Republicans who are no closer to voting for it than when we began this journey. Mostly this is frustration talking. I’m really hoping that someone can provide me with a legitimate reason why something this watered down took this long and all that “leadership” was squandered.

I’ve just about had it with anything to do with politics after the complete nonsensical circus I’ve seen with healthcare reform.
After all the votes, the posturing from politicians that they are “fighting for you”, after all the speeches, the meetings, the millions spent by lobbyists, the teabagging protests, the “town halls” what will we end up with ?
NOTHING BUT A SYMBOLIC WATERED-DOWN PIECE OF SHIT BILL THAT’S ON LIFE SUPPORT AS WE SPEAK
I still get calls and pleas to give money or get involved so we can “fight Rush Limbaugh” and “make the final push to reform healthcare once and for all”. You know, fuck them, and I’ll tell you why I feel that way.
You always have to get involved because it’s the Democrats vs. “the Evil Republicans” type of thing. The problem is that both parties are in the bag for health insurers, so it isn’t what they would lead you to believe – its a Washington special interests vs. the rest of us kind of thing, and once again everyday people are getting FUCKED OVER HARD and people who call themselves Democrats are doing nothing to stop it. The very word Democrat is becoming meaningless, at least to me.
At least the Republicans will come out and say they’re against it – i’ll give them that, because thats a far cry better than “I’m for it in principle, but not this legislation” – weak. So whether or not abortion is covered is now more important than any type of humane healthcare for the millions of Americans that need it ? Get your head out of your fucking asses Washington ! Most other developed countries of the world can accomplish something we can’t in the good ole USA because of our unwillingness to counter the sick and pervasive influence of special corporate interests on our poor souls. In that vein, I feel the old addage of Abraham Lincon needs to be revised:
GOVERNMENT OF THE CORPORATION, BY THE CORPORATION, FOR THE CORPORATION.
Sadly, I feel the same sort of frustration as the teabaggers, and although I think them misguided now I can understand and feel their anger. Fuck politics, fuck Washington, fuck it all.
Merry Christmas to you though themonk77.
– A very disillusioned Fidel’s Dirt Nap –
This is NOT your imagination and it’s not just to you. The faux Democrats in question have been bought and paid for. Today it’s Phama/Medico/Insuraners; tomorrow it’s Bankers.
It’s a matter of public record! You can look it up, as Yogi used to say (didn’t he?).
It simply cannot be denied by claiming, “Oh, everyone does it.” No, everyone does not do it. I didn’t think Obama was doing it, at least not to the extent that HRC was (yeah, yeah, I know he collected money from special interests). The excuse is always the same: Gotta sell out in order to be elected. Well, selling out is selling out; that’s the bottom line. Banks don’t give out loans or cashola just for the helluva it; they expect some damn firm promises–and they get them. Their PACs are no different.
Why Colorado Democrats, on this site, resist accepting this, and rejecting it as vehemently as Fidel’s dirt nap, I cannot imagine.
If we followed your suggestions, then the NEOCONS would get another 8 years.
Without the election of Obama health care reform would have centered on giving more money to the insurance comapnies, Doctors, and pharmacueticals with not an additonal soul covered, nor any mentin of elimination of pre existing conditions.
You seem obsessed with banks.
How about the failed war on drugs?
The clear discrimnatin in the DOC?
The flagrant violation of human rights in immigration policy?
Does anything matter to you than having a reason to voice your clear hatred of Sen Bennet?
I for one, don’t understand it when Bennet is actually more liberal than his primary challenger per track record.
SYMBOLIC WATERED-DOWN PIECE OF SHIT BILL
then why are the Republicans working so hard to defeat it?
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.c…
There’s something to the argument that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, even if it isn’t my best friend.
We’re not the only ones.
‘Scuse me while I go pop some popcorn.
they don’t really care about anything except defeating Obama. If Obama wants it, it must be bad.
The bill is crap. Even Howard Dean can pull his head out of his ass long enough to recognize this.
He lost me at porkulus. I was willing to give him a chance on his promises of post-partisanship, transparency, and fiscal responsibility, and that one bill – rushed through, written by Reid and Pelosi has done nothing except put my kids in debt.
Saved or createdВ®? Are you kidding me?
Just a note I haven’t forgotten.
The bill is a SYMBOLIC WATERED-DOWN PIECE OF SHIT BILL that may or may not be defeated by the Republicans anyway, in their cynical efforts not to hand Obama anything that could be remotely perceived as a victory.
There pop up those dastadly Republicans again, trying to defeat our useless piecemeal, halfstep PIECE OF SHIT Democratic efforts. We’re fighting for the people though !
That even makes it worse…
and we oh so happily take it again with “healthcare reform”. Enjoy America !
