"We Need a Governor Who Shows Up," Says Guy Who Doesn't Show Up

Walker Stapleton

Republican State Treasurer Walker Stapleton probably won’t be Colorado’e next Governor, but when it comes to unintentional self parody, he’s locked down the top position in the state.

Stapleton and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jared Polis participated in a candidate forum hosted by the Arvada Chamber of Commerce on Monday, in which Stapleton said this:

“We need a Governor who shows up.”

You can say a lot of things about Walker Stapleton, but you can’t ever accuse him of “showing up” on a regular basis. Stapleton is finishing up his second term as Colorado’s State Treasurer — which is a full-time, salaried position — and he hasn’t been spotted at his State Capitol office in months.

Literally months.

This is not new territory for Stapleton, who took criticism during his 2014 re-election campaign when keycard records showed that he only appeared at his office about 10 days per month — and usually only in the late afternoon. After Stapleton was re-elected in November 2014, he stopped using his keycard altogether, presumably so that it would be harder to document the fact that he doesn’t do his job.

Watch Stapleton essentially endorse Polis for Governor at about the 1:41 mark in the video below:

  1. It never ceases to amaze me how Republicans, without a hint of irony, project their own worst characteristics upon their political opponents.  I even saw a comment from a Republican about how Democrats "project" onto Republicans.

They haven't had an original thought since the time of Abraham Lincoln.

      1. I like the EPA — coordinating all of the environmental efforts of the time was an idea of Nixon and some of the Republican WH staffers.  That brings the original thought horizon up another decade.

    1. And yet when there were investigations into ethics complaints against Republicans like Vicki Marble, you were always the first to whine about the coverage.  I doubt your beloved Peak Politics covered it at all.

You bitching about this is as funny as Walker Stapleton lecturing people about showing up to work.

    2. Giving up on going after the future Governor Polis there Mods? Care to comment on the millions the GOP is spending at Trump properties, or are you just glad you're helping with dear leaders retirement fund?

    3. …”jetting around” while you (as a federal employee) spend your time here mid-afternoon.  Either you go to work really early or they find you at your desk about as often as Walker is found at his.

        1. America Rising is a far right wing hit squad. Earlier this year, America Rising released confidential information from a form SF-86, a security clearance form, about a Democratic candidate for Congress in Virginia.

SF-86s are supposed to be highly confidential and are completed in order to obtain federal government security clearances.
