Of all the calls for health care reform I've gotten by email...

….this is one of the few I’ve actually followed the link and signed the attached petition.

“Forget Politics and Remember Us

“Last night, President Obama stood before the nation and delivered his State of the Union address. The message was clear–we can’t give up on health care reform. Will you join us and send your elected officials a strong message to keep up the fight?”

So, who delivered this message of health care reform?  it looks like every other one I’ve gotten over the last year – why would this one be different?

Because it came from Lance Armstrong.

Now, why would a mult-bazillionaire like Lance give a crap about this? Yes, he does have a money-machine foundation that supports cancer research, but if he wanted to get it passed, couldn’t he just write a check and pay for everyone?

Then I remember the details of his fight with cancer. He wasn’t rich then – he was just a slacker mountain biker who had just recently started racing for a major road team. He went with a different chemotherapy regimen because the standard treatment would’ve destroyed his lung capacity. He had a 40% chance of survival…and he did it.

So, I think about that happening now…and there’s no doubt he would be dead. What little health care he would’ve gotten in the 90’s would be dropped instantly by todays’ greedhead insurance companies.

How long would’ve it taken for his bills to be paid? Would they have dug deep and found a way to make his testicular cancer a “pre-existing condition?”  And even if he was covered by insurance, would the radical treatment he wanted even have been approved?

I normally don’t sign internet petitions – their influence jas waned in the last few years. This one I’m going to.
