The mayor said “a recession like this is really driven by people’s mental state.”

Do you have a link? Can you flesh this out, ever so slightly, to say, maybe a paragraph?
http://blogs.denverpost.com/th…
I’m not surprised that Hickenlooper backs off from taking a stand on the state budget or that he refused to join McInnis in a letter opposing the business tax measures before the General Assembly, but that statement blew me away!
me here. What does is that he won’t come out with a definitive stance on revoking the tax exemptions. As somebody who intends to vote for him, I’d very much like him to let me know where he is on that since it is a major budget issue this year.
…”As somebody who intends to vote for him,…” like there is any other choice in your mind. You know you wouldn’t vote for a conservative if someone held a gun to your head.
Right?
So what difference does it make? We all know Hick is a left wing nut job. If his name isn’t up there you would vote for the next lib on the list.
Right?
Just like me only the opposite. I wouldn’t vote for a limp wristed liberal if it was my dying mother’s last wish.
That’s why Laughing Boy likes him so much, and the left wing nut jobs don’t. Makes sense to me!
and even voted for him. But that was before he turned into Hugo Chavez.
I guess I could have said “people like Laughing Boy”, meaning Denver Republicans, but I was just pointing out that Gecko’s characterizations were the opposite of reality.
and it’s this–that if a voter from my party doesn’t vote at all, it’s almost like getting a half a vote for your guy. So, if I chose not to vote at all due to some outrageous disgust I have for my candidate, it will most certainly help yours, even if I didn’t mark my ballot for him.
That’s what difference it can make, Gecko.
As it stands, I am voting for Hick. That doesn’t negate the fact that I would like both McInnis and him to actually start laying out a plan of how they are going to deal with our state’s economic crisis. At least Hick has an explanation for why he isn’t weighing in right now but frankly, I find that only marginally more tolerable than McInnis, who seems to be perpetually in hiding from potential voters.
Found this video. Listen to Hickenlooper’s analysis of the economic downturn. Appx 57 seconds in, According to him, we have just lost our ability to believe.
like “change” and “believe” now fail to resonate for a multitude of reasons. Until we have someone willing to stand up as Scott has and say tax increases need to be measured against the impact on jobs, words will ring hollow.
Serisouly- the budget in broad view is what the State takes in (revenue) and what the State spends (spending).
The legislature has cut some things already (spending). And is evaluating altering some tax exemptions (revenue).
I heard Hick say there will be plenty of time to comment and produce a budget plan of his own- I agree. OTOH- if your so excited for him to produce his, where’s McInnis’s?
If elected, McInnis is going to do the following:
1. Increase job growth
2. Increase state services (platform for propsperity)
3. Decrease spending
4. Decrease revenue
And all this while lowering some taxes and refusing to raise any others.
Alrighty. And you’re saying Hickenlooper’s use of “change” and “believe” is unrealistic, idealistic, evokes Obama, etc.?
I think it’s your candidates plan (or, really, a total lack thereof) that is wholly unrealistic.
5. Profit!
But here’s what he actually said:
(Chris Osher: Get an editor for crying out loud!)
it’s largely true. Read “Animal Spirits” by Akerloff and Shiller, or the book from where they draw their title (“The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money” by a one John M. Keynes). They make this same point.
