Civility in the General Assembly--Weird votes addition.

  • by: Danny the Red (hair)

There has been a lot of heated debate this session, as there often is, so Representatives Massey and Benefield and Senators Johnston and Hudak wanted to remind everyone to be nice, or at least be professional.

HJR10-1010 Concerning civility in the Colorado General Assembly

(1) Each member acts in a dignified manner and in accord with the traditional legislative norms.

(2) Members allow to each other the same rights, courtesies, and respect that they would expect to be given themselves as members of the

Colorado General Assembly.

(3) Each member confines himself or herself to the subject matter under discussion and makes no disparaging personal remarks to or about

any member.

(4) Members are respectful of each other and never impugn another member’s honesty, integrity, or motive.

(5) Members observe decency of speech.

(6) Each member takes full and personal responsibility for his or her own conduct, through both language and action.

Pretty noncontroversial in my mind. However, though Doug Bruce is gone, there were still three votes for incivility (I’ll leave it to you to guess).

But that’s not the weird part, Senator Mitchell abstained under Senate Rule 17(c).  Senate Rule 17 (c) bars members from voting on bills in which they have a “personal or private interest.”

What is Senator Mitchell’s conflict?  Has he heavily invested in name calling futures?  Please come up with your own punch line.

    1. This is a goddamn travesty! I reserve the right to tell EVERYONE to go pound sand, eat shit or to go fuck them selves. (Like dick Cheney has said) especially if they do not agree with MEEEEEEEEEE!

      ROFLOL

  1. Wow- so many punch lines, so little time

Perhaps there are even more pictures of him not fully clothed.

Perhaps he has a pending complaint against him for disparaging personal remarks.

Maybe he was just trying to be a dickhead. or is it asshat?

Perhaps he’s defending some action or statement by claiming he wasn’t really responsible for himself…because he was drunk. Or because the voices were really loud that day and he forgot his tin foil helmet.

Maybe, and again, I’m just free associating here, he doesn’t really want to be seen taking the Co General Assembly seriously. INstead he’d rather go on about colleagues’ underwear.

  2. Hudak and Benefield have sponsored the same bill for six years now.

Good catch on Mitchell 17c’ing it. Maybe because he and Shaffer got into a fight at the podium the other night?

    1. and it’s been around for a long time.

That’s like saying if you have to pass something honoring the Girl Scouts, the battle is already lost, because shouldn’t we assume we’re already honoring the Girl Scouts?!
