have you seen the documentary “It Might Get Loud,” Dan? It’s my Netflix queue and it’s supposed to be fantastic.
We watched “It Might Get Loud” a few weeks ago and will probably end up buying it.
Three generations of guitarists:
Jimmy Page – the sage; a laid-back Zen master
The Edge – mature, polished, still eager to learn.
Jack White – I dunno … generation X, I guess. I didn’t know much about him before I watched the DVD, but I kind of like him. He’s quirky.
A master class for rock and roll guitarists.
Jimmy Page is my all time favorite guitarist. Period.
NPR has put up the forthcoming live White Stripes album. It’s an eyebrow melter.

One of the most theatrical front men I’ve ever seen. Vaudevillian a way. Caught them at the Ogden Theater.
I join others in their appreciation of the film It Might Get Loud. Jack’s a bit abrasive at times, but he holds his own. Favorite part of the film is watching Jimmy Page put on his 45 of Link Wray’s Rumble and, as has been noted in reviews and such, watch him play air guitar along with it, with a big goofy loving grin of appreciation on his face.
one of my favorites. Back in the day I was very osessive about my vinyl. I played them once, to record them, and put the vinyl on the shelf. Came home from a long weekend away and could hear the song from more than a block away and was cheered. Until I got in my house and found that my bro-in-law, living with us at the time, was passed out in his bed. The turntable was set to repeat. After he woke I learned it had been playing for more than 10 hours. Had to go out and buy a new album. It has never been played. The tape still works fine so no need to play.

Last October I stopped by one of my favorite stores, Black and Read, to pick up a new release by Brandi Carlile Give Up The Ghost. I couldn’t find it in the bins so I asked at the counter about it. They had not ordered it although many other group’s vinyl had been. So I ordered it. As great as her recordings are she is knockout awesome in concert.
Perhaps the youngsters around here should learn how to relax, listen and watch the logo go ’round and ’round and ’round while slurping in Boone’s Farm Apple and toking on their medicinal herb. It might mellow out a few of ’em.

I gave up my subscription to Guitar Player about 16 years ago, so forgive me if this woman is old news.
I was watching American Idol the other night and Orianthi did a guest performance of her new single. She whipped off some two-hand tapping riffs that would have made Steve Vai’s peepee hard.
Here’s a little sampler of her. She only does a little two-hand stuff on it, but the rest is both spectacular and tasty as well.
I guess I gotta get out more. I’m missing some great young talent.
First time I saw her live was in the Hilton grand ball room in GJ. Small room. I was in the second row and got to watch her close up. I was ready to sell my guitars and give it up right there on the spot. I figured nobody else, especially me, could ever play as tasty as that, so why bother?

I once saw Iggy standing in the aisle of Mammoth Gardens watching a show (he was set to play in town a couple days later), wearing his hair pulled back into his black leather jacket and wearing black framed glasses.
Hollies have always been one of my favs. Good to see they got inducted.

I was so-so on them as a teen, but as I reached the age they were when they made that music, it made perfect sense to me. Donald Fagen has written great some great lyrics. I like the chorus, especially, of Deacon Blues.

Steve Perry has one of the best voices ever. A five octave vocal range I think.
One of my favorite scenes of music in a movie. There are a hundred great recordings of them doing this song, because they literally toured everywhere back in 2007, but this one still grabs me.
this one is for a couple of folks here, who find the “f” word so very offensive. I’m guessing neither was a big fan of this movie.
