At Least He's Not Your State GOP Chairman

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Our own Dick Wadhams provides plenty of fodder for you members of the pinko blogosphere but he hasn’t given you anything like this yet:

Jim Greer, former head of the Republican Party of Florida, was arrested this morning, according to law enforcement officials…

Greer is charged with six separate felony counts: one charge of organized scheme to defraud, four charges of grand theft and one charge of money laundering. Officials describe a scheme by which Greer arranged for 10 percent of all major donor money given to the state Republican Party to be directed to Victory Strategies, a shell company he set up. Greer would then draw money from Victory in order to maintain his “personal lifestyle.”

The mug shot, of course, is great.

    1. He was “Crist’s guy”, but he’s tied in to almost all of the GOP pols in Florida, including Rubio and McCollum.  IIRC, the scandal also reaches deep into the GOP side of the Florida legislature.

Sit back and enjoy the fireworks.

    1. posted on nearly every street light called, Men without Lips. On every post was the face of a then Republican in office.

Stiull strikes me strange to this day. That was in about 1980.

  1. Those are Kenny Rogers Plastic Surgery eyes for sure. But the surgeon forgot to reduce the bags – or else they grew back.

  2. Oh wait…

    http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US

DENVER, June 2 (UPI) — Moon rocks presented to Colorado that went missing for 35 years have been located in the home of a former governor, authorities said.

The rocks brought back by the Apollo 17 mission and presented to Colorado

in January 1974 are hanging in the home office of former Gov. John D. Vanderhoof, The Denver Post reported Wednesday.

Vanderhoof, 88, said he moved the set into his home when he left office in 1975.

“I didn’t even know it was anything to have,” Vanderhoof said. “It’s just memories of old stuff I had.”

      1. How deplorable you are toward an old man. Johnny Van was such a crook he hung it in plain sight for years thinking “It’s just memories of old stuff I had.”

CT I don’t understand your motivation at all except Johnny Van has an R behind his name.

        1. Did I call him a crook?  Did I make any comment at all?  It’s a non issue.  I thought it was kind of interesting.  I had to look up AFTER I posted it if he was a D or an R.

Jeesh, sorry for linking to a news article.

          1. Multiple browser syndrome.  But really, I don’t think its a big problem, I don’t think the former Governor is a crook, he predates my time in Colorado.  I did not know his party affiliation nor which part of the state he came from.  I’ll go back to poking fun at my former congressman would-be Governor.

    1. But in this day and age, we have bigger problems than Johnny Van.

He should return the rocks with the stipulation that they be displayed in Western Colorado.

Barring that, he should just return the rocks.

      1. because I thought it was kind of humorous, not because I thought it was a big (or really much of) a problem at all.  I don’t post on Pols to solve problems.

Besides I thought the whole at least he’s not…motif was more humor than problem-solving.

        1. I suggested that the State exhibit the rocks at the Museum of Western Colorado, now known as the Museum of the West.

This isn’t a big problem.  However, I don’t see the Western Slope thing happening.  We’re already talking about how many astronauts came out of CU.

        2. Johnny Van is a great guy with not a mean or dishonest bone in his body and he’s the kind of Republican who believes in civil discourse, finding common ground and then having a good poker game afterward. He’d be pilloried as a RINO if he were still active in politics.

          Your crack wasn’t funny.

What I wonder is why the Post reporter who did the original piece about the “missing” rocks, and having mentioned Johnny Van in the story, just didn’t call him up and ask him.

Either the reporter (and editors, if any) assumed Johnny Van was no longer among us, or they were just plain lazy. At the Post these days, who knows.

          1. I never said he was dishonest nor mean, nor Republican–moderate or otherwise.  I provided no comment, which I usually do–always when I have an opinion. I did not mean to poke any sacred cows, I saw a story I thought was interesting, and I posted it with a snarky, albeit common, headline.

But whatever, I should go for a while.  Into self-imposed exile.  My sincere apologies Mr. Vanderhoof, clearly you remain much beloved.

            1. …you made no comment, no even an inference.

Everyone who is upset read their own into what you (and I) wrote and flew off on a tangent.

              Sheesh, folks, listen.

  3. Things like practically forcing funding for a plane hangar at – I forget which – a little panhandle university……that he was made a board member of right after that…….and that the user of the hanger was one of his good ole boy Publican buddies.

What started his downfall was the discovery of excessive and lots of personal charges on his party issued American Express card.  Rubio’s been caught up in a bit of this, too, but nothing like Greer.

      1. those rocks are incredibly valuable.

Moon rocks collected during the course of lunar exploration are currently considered priceless. In 1993, three small fragments from Luna 16, weighing 0.2g, were sold for US$ 442,500.

I realize this is a no-harm-no-foul situation, but those rocks should have been in a museum from day 1, and never treated as personal property.

      2. Can we blame it on a rogue staffer, and all move on ?

Just kidding.  Sure Vanderhoof is a good man and holy crap is he a decorated soldier ! His wiki page is already updated with the incident, copy below:

John David Vanderhoof (Born May 27, 1922 in Rocky Ford, Colorado) served as the 37th Governor of Colorado from 1973-1975 as a Republican. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Colorado under John Arthur Love from 1971 until 1973 when Love was appointed to the National Energy Policy Office by President Richard Nixon. Vanderhoof was a banker and served in Naval Aviation during World War II, and received two Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. Elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives in 1950, and served twenty years until 1970. Former chairman of Game and Fish Committee, and Business Affairs Committee of the House. Minority floor leader during 43rd General Assembly and elected Speaker of the House for the 44th, 46th, and 47th General Assemblies. Graduated from Glendale College in California in 1942. First Lt. Governor elected under new constitutional provision calling for joint election of Governor and Lt. Governor.

In 2010 Vanderhoof was found to be in possession of missing moon rocks valued at $5 million. The moon rocks were awarded to Colorado in 1974 by the Nixon administration. [1]

        1. …..wow, you mean some people did good things for more than 8 years before term limits?  He probably learned a heck of a lot that in turn was useful in his subsequent jobs.

I voted for term limits back when; today I would not.  We threw a lot of healthy babies out with that bath water.

  4. I am going to introduce you to a truly simple way to earn $8 thousand dollars a Week starting right away. Would you like to know how?
