Gardner Still Lacks Plan to Cover People with Pre-Existing Conditions

U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) told a conservative talk-radio host Friday that he and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders both want to repeal and replace Obamacare with a healthcare law that covers people with pre-existing conditions.

In fact, Sanders’ universal healthcare plan, called “Medicare for All,” would cover all people, including those with pre-existing conditions.

But Gardner has yet to produce a specific plan that would do so. Instead, Gardner voted three times to kill Obamacare, even though he had no plan to protect people with pre-existing conditions.

“I disagree with [Sanders] on [Medicare for All], but [Democrats] still want to repeal and replace Obamacare,” said Gardner in an interview with KHOW’s Dan Caplis Friday.

“But what we can agree on is making sure people with pre-existing conditions have coverage, required coverage,” said Gardner on air. “That’s what we are about. That’s what we’ll fight for and continue to succeed with.

“We know that we can come together with better plan, a better policy, a better idea that works, that covers people with pre-existing conditions. And unfortunately, Obamacare has failed to do what they promised it would do.”

Gardner’s office did not return a call asking for his “better plan,” if he has one, to replace Obamacare.

  1. Considering the Democrats as agreeing with "repeal and replace" is an interesting strategy.  Perhaps he can confuse a few people and not lose their votes.

    If Congress wanted to make "sure people with pre-existing conditions have coverage, required coverage," I guess that could mean some sort of subsidy for risk pools.  Good luck trying to pin Cory Gardner down on ANY proposal.  I think the default response is "we want to do xxxx" and "when a proposal comes up, we'll have a discussion about it." 

     

    1. Eisenhower's "risk pools" (corridors) is why we have Medicare.
      Well, that and Lee Oswald making LBJ President.

       

      Eisenhower recognized there had to be a better way for elder and disabled Americans to have medical and hospital insurance.  I love the guy, but he allowed the righties of his time to kill a lot of Americans by convincing him that it would be good to assist the French in Indochine and to implement subsidized risk pools.

      When it failed, as Johnson predicted when he was still in Congress, President Johnson got Medicare and Medicaid passed.  Why are so many people so obsessed with subsidizing big profits as the only way to get anything done?

      We electrified America! dammit

        Obamacare has failed to do what they promised it would do.

        Didn’t you arrive at that conclusion 63 votes ago in the House before the damned ink was dry on the ACA? 

        Your antics remind me of the story of the young man who whacked his parents then asked for leniency from the court as he was now an orphan.

    * the coverage will of course only be available at market rates set by private insurance executives to levels that guarantee the compensation for which they have become accustomed.
