At Least It's Not Your $450,000 Ad Campaign

  • by: Colorado Pols

TUESDAY UPDATE: Gov. Jared Polis responds:

Answer: something better.

—–

This ole boy is on meth.

As the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports, this is really real:

Gov. Kristi Noem has a message for South Dakota: “Meth. We’re On It.”

Noem launched her new anti-meth campaign on Monday to bring awareness to the meth epidemic in South Dakota that will include a new TV ad, billboards, posters and website. The campaign’s motto features the phrase, “Meth. We’re on it,” over an outline of South Dakota, and the ad and posters feature people of differing in ages and races saying, “I’m on meth…”

“This is our problem and together, we need to get on it,” Noem said.

You bet Governor, that’s the first thing we thought too! It’s either the worst PR campaign in “War on Drugs” history, or in some kind of extremely well thought out game of eight-dimensional mnemonic chess we’ll never understand…one of the best?

It’s probably not one of the best.

  1. South Dakota is the Alabama of the northern plains on drug policy.  Hell, they're arresting people for possession of CBD oil.

Is CBD oil illegal? Confusion reigns over South Dakota's law

One person in Minnehaha County is currently facing a Class 5 felony charge for possessing CBD oil — Alaska resident Bernard Davis, 57, was arrested earlier this month for having CBD oil at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, according to his attorney Clint Sargent.

  2. I see a HUUUUGE South Dakota promotional campaign

    – state motto

    – license plates

    – tv, radio – the ads write themselves

    – national exposure: Colbert and the Jimmies, SNL,
-international exposure: Cobert and the Jimmies, eh, and whoever else they got in Canada

I mean, they already got  Sturgis, but that's so seasonal. this is year round

  3. At last, a suitable slogan for my new meth kit business, where we'll put all the ingredients like brake fluid, Sudafed, sulfuric acid, etc. in a bag and sell it without instructions at Walgreens to maybe take advantage of a loophole in the law!

  4. Nearly a half million dollars.  That will go a LOONNNNGGGGGGGG way in South Dakota media buys.  And the actual figure may be quite a bit more:  "The state's contract with Broadhead, effective until May 31, 2020, states that the contract shouldn't exceed $1.4 million."

  5. “Trust me, you’re gonna’ love it. This campaign is gonna’ be the biggest thing to hit South Dakota since crack!”

    Advertising consultant

. . . I mean, hell, they even paid to trademark it!

  6. Top ten rejected slogans: . . .

    Meth:  It’s what’s for dinner!

Meth:  It’s like crack for farmers!

    Where’s my Meth?!

    Meth: Now even methier!

Meth: maybe scientists finally got something right?

    ¡Yo quiero Meth!

    Meth, baby, meth!

Meth: It’s not just for breakfast anymore.

    Got Meth?

    Meth:  Just do it!

  7. Dear Governor Polis,

Please exhibit your usual good sense and discretion by not making any “response” to either of our idiot northern neighbors (other than maybe a quiet nod and a smirk)

Not on Twitter, nor will I ever be, but I hope this still reaches you.

    Sincerely,

    Diogenesdemar

A proud Coloradan (and a long-ago, gladly former, Nebraskan)

PS. I wouldn’t be opposed to building a (no-fanfare) wall, on our northern and eastern borders, as long as they pay for it . . . cash . . . in advance.
