1. This is a case of, “Everyone else is doing it wrongly!”

   When a person has a bad idea it still seems brilliant in their head. Then someone else has much the same idea and says it out loud and a majority of people says, “What? That does not make sense.” People who do not like being corrected by external reality double down and decide the real problem is not the idea but how the other people are explaining the idea.

3. Bloomberg’s rolling the dice on a brokered convention, and the hope that the Wall Street oligarchs and the save-us-from-teh-socialists baby-boomer establishment wing of the party holds enough sway . . .

   1. Never go full Hickenlooper

      I know there’s much more we can accomplish over the next two years, but only if we stay focused on the work and expand upon it. And the fact is: A national presidential campaign would limit my ability to do that.

      So as I’ve thought about a possible presidential campaign, the choice before me has become clear. Should I devote the next two years to talking about my ideas and record, knowing that I might never win the Democratic nomination? Or should I spend the next two years doubling down on the work that I am already leading and funding, and that I know can produce real and beneficial results for the country, right now?

      I’ve come to realize that I’m less interested in talking than doing. And I have concluded that, for now, the best way for me to help our country is by rolling up my sleeves and continuing to get work done.

      1. I keep fantasizing that the reason Bloomberg is jumping in is that it will allow nearly unlimited, focused, anti-Trump advertising and speaking.

         if he will continue the $1 to his campaign, $4 to anti-Trump and voter registration ratio all the way to the convention, it may not be a bad thing.

         Heck, it wouldn’t even be a bad thing if he became a VP candidate, allowing near unlimited personal spending to prop up the ticket. Once elected, he could be an excellent organizer to revitalize the Federal government workforce to overcome the 4 years of Trumpian attacks.

4. If Bloomberg does fund anti-Trump ads and pro-voter reg campaigns, that would be a great use of his personal wealth. 
    

   But neither Warren nor Sanders would want him as Veep nominee- Bloomberg’s whole reason for running is to counter their perceived “socialist” wealth tax, Medicare for All agendas. 
    

   if Biden somehow coasts through his gaffestorms to become the nominee, a Biden-Bloomberg ticket would be deeply yawn worthy.

   1. I keep having a hard time seeing Biden or Sanders as the eventual candidate.  Neither has been able to expand on (or fully keep) the initial support at the announcement of their campaign. I have a hard time seeing a sudden burst of support from any voters who currently DON'T know the candidates. 

      Warren would not run with him (and really has no reason to).  Buttigieg would probably need a Washington insider more than money.  But Klobuchar? Harris? Their middling donations thus far may need to be significantly shored up, and I don't think either of them would be insulted by Bloomberg's current fascination with guns and climate.  And his "stop and frisk" is in some ways no worse than their records as prosecutors.

   2. On this one, kiwi, I find myself in agreement with you….

      Sanders would never even consider Bloomberg and although Warren might consider it for a nano-second, she would realize that it would destroy her credibility with the left without gaining anything in the middle. (Bloomberg would probably decline the invitation all the same.)

      Biden-Bloomberg is definitely a non-starter. Given the facts that both are white males with a combined age approaching 160 years, that gets them nowhere.

      I do like the idea of Bloomberg staying in the race until the convention and spending $9.00 trashing Trump for every $1.00 spent promoting himself.
