Fresh up at Politico from David Catanese, why the hell not?
Colorado Republican Tom Wiens, the former state legislator who dropped a bid for Senate last spring, is positioning himself as a possible alternative candidate for governor if former Rep. Scott McInnis loses the GOP primary Tuesday or is later forced to abandon his bid.
Wiens, a wealthy rancher, said he has cast his mail-in primary ballot for McInnis. But in an interview with POLITICO, he stopped short of ruling out a late bid for governor if his preferred candidate ends up out of the race.
“I just sent in my ballot, and I voted for Scott McInnis and let’s hope things work out. Who knows what might happen? Nobody can predict anything in Colorado this year,” Wiens said. “You never rule anything out. I’m certainly qualified to run and be governor. I think I know the state better than almost anyone.”
We’d say it’s more likely Tom Wiens just wanted his name in print again, but it’s not like he’s alone in wanting to capitalize on Scott McInnis’ implosion. If anything, he’s late to the party.

I suspect there is more behind this than Wiens just wanting his name in print. The hard part would be getting both the GOP nominee AND Tancredo to step down though – virtually impossible. I suppose he’d have a shot in a three way race if nobody voted for Tancredo.
Scott more so than Dan but Tanc is the splitter in this race. If he’s still there on election day he hands Hick the race.
Scott is dead in the water. Dan could do it.
Maes is a combination of low name rec with those who do know his name mainly connecting it to shady money and crazy talk. When the real race starts Hick/Garcia will quickly climb in polls.
Defending illegal immigrant murderers?! Tancredo is declaring all out war on Chickenlooper. I don’t think he’ll come out of this looking much better than McInnis.
Hickenlooper is going to get slammed on the immigration issue by the right wing this fall, which will work in Tanc’s favor. He’ll end up getting a sizable number of R’s and Indies. Republicans are screwed.
Wiens supports a plagiarizing, blame-the-elderly-plebe, potential tax evader?
Obviously a great judge of character.
because he thinks McInnis has the best chance of being pressured out of the race, allowing him to step in.
you are either a ringer for the D’s who want to get rid of McInnis because he’s a bigger threat against Hick in Nov. or your just basically like the old cigarette ad with the guy and the black eye that would rather fight than win. Either way your tedious and insufferable.
I love people who know the difference between ‘your’, ‘you’re’ and ‘yore’ – YIKES!
But the ad was “I’d rather fight than switch.”
Sorry – I still thought it was one of the catchier ad’s in it’s day – thanks for the video. Fun reminder.
McInnis is in no way a threat to Hick, and I think most people would agree with me.
Coming from Ellie, not one of is mean lefties, that’s gonna leave a mark.
and that by itself would not be a bad trait. But to not care that no one likes you and be willfully ignorant at the same time is not at all admirable
He’s just a pissant grad student who doesn’t have enough life experience to have a clue.
Someday he’ll have one. Until then, he gets a little slack.
What happens if Dan Maes wins the primary? Will enough Unaffiliateds and Rs vote for Tancredo to make it close? Hick should defintely dust off his bike (the one with the global take-over logo) as he will coast to victory.
Whoever takes McInnis’s place will need the blessing of BOTH McInnis and Tancredo. And that ‘aint Wiens…
…someone else has already earned their endorsements.
But I can appreciate Patrick Davis shilling for his clients.
Patrick Davis, veteran political consultant and strategist for the campaign commented, “We have the best choice for Governor in Gschwendtner and he is backed by a professional team, over $100,000 cash on hand, and petitions on the street. Joe will quickly become known in Colorado. I fully expect that he will be our next Governor.”
A brilliant idea. He’s tan, rested, and ready.
With all these gov wanna be’s how about another out of office publicity hound?
How about those other out-of-office publicity hounds (and a “female hound”):
Mike Huckabee
Mitt Romney
Sarah Palin
Sure, they’d be blatant carpetbaggers, but what the heck: so was Hillary Clinton.
Wouldn’t it be fun to have Sarah Palin running for Governor of Colorado? We’d be re-introducing the grizzly bear to Colorado!
Stranger things have happened. Quite recently!
The guy runs from interviews that might be critical. Having someone who spends the campaign hiding is not what the Republicans need.
Given the current situation, I’m sure Republicans would like to have their candidate out of the spotlight for a while.
