“‘I have done that,’ says my memory. ‘I cannot have done that’–says my pride, and remains adamant. At last–memory yields.”

Does it strike anyone else that while certainly nice to build these trains here with American labor, it is still foreign owned? And probably a huge part of upper management will be German, if our Japanese car building in America experience holds true. And profits head off to Tokyo or Dresden or wherever unless tax laws discourage that (NOT!) or the company is enlightened.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’d much rather see foreign investment in America than just sending us the goods.
But I guess I want it all. Like it used to be. American companies, American labor, American consumers of same products.
I know we’re all supposed to mourn the passing of summer, but I’m pulling out my skis TODAY.
Siemens actually has 3 HQ locations: Berlin, Munich and Erlangen.
might have been lost to a fire…
Mass civilian casualties. People cooked as they tried to escape into the canals. Pavement boiled. Mass destruction against the Geneva Conventions and all moral standards, even for war.
A real blot on the image of America as a good nation in war. (Whatever that is!)
as a huge stain, but only one of many. We really do drink our own cool-aid a bit much I think…
why Dresden is more infamous than all the other firebombed cities? There weren’t any major German or Japanese cities that weren’t firebombed as far as I know. As a matter of fact, while the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were horrifying, fewer people were killed in those raids than in one night in Tokyo.
Might impact one’s psyche, no?
A real SNAFU on our part, though the Brits did the majority of the damage.
mainly because the filthy rich who own everything are pretty international in their earning and their spending, so whether they’re American or not, they likely are paying little to no taxes to our governments, and they are likely spending as much abroad as they do here even if they don’t live here.
Apparently our President is either too busy or can’t afford to stand side by side with Bennet, Markey et.al.for fear of further damaging their poll effectiveness.
So, change the story from the voting record and failed political policies …. Mrs. 1st Lady can get away with saying some pithy things and not being tagged with all the failed policies.
to keep the peoples focused on getting a job so they can pay taxes and pay higher insurance premiums…
little diary that was word for word, the same as your comment here? Any particular reason you deleted it?
You think nurses are prostitutes who sell their vaginas to the highest payer?
Go tell your mother that “joke.”
so don’t let your head explode here wabbitt…chillax (?) its a joke.
I’m shocked you didn’t rifle off a comment denying the existance of rationing under Obamacare.
an erection is considered a “pre-existing condition”. Blue cross then would never pay for the vasectomy. even if the mans premium payments were up to date.
Because it’s plagiarized.
No shit its not my joke, there is probably a version for Bush too.
Wahhhhhhh wabbitt
but somehow you got grandfathered into the system and are apparently immune.
Lucky us.
waddle over to Google and search for a version joking on Bush
doesn’t make it public domain.
They keep saying Buck is either stupid or lying, and I tell them nobody could be that stupid. Then I read your posts, and I’m not so sure anymore.
his defensive reaction has been to avoid debates on the substantive issues … like his record.
Obamacare bill – 2,200+ pages
Obamacare regulations – 4,500 pages (and counting)

Big health insurers to stop selling new child-only policies
http://www.latimes.com/health/…
Major health insurance companies in California and other states have decided to stop selling policies for children rather than comply with a new federal healthcare law that bars them from rejecting youngsters with preexisting medical conditions.
Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna Inc. and others will halt new child-only policies in California, Illinois, Florida, Connecticut and elsewhere as early as Thursday when provisions of the nation’s new healthcare law take effect, including a requirement that insurers cover children under age 19 regardless of their health histories.
The action will apply only to new coverage sought for children and not to existing child-only plans, family policies or insurance provided to youngsters through their parents’ employers. An estimated 80,000 California children currently without insurance – and as many as 500,000 nationwide – would be affected, according to experts.
Does the fall election got you that down?
Here it is again.
“In this thread, 12-year-old conservative boys fantasize about what happens when they go to the doctor without mommy.”
Good move too … much more action in the daily thread … stupid comments, but on average par for the course with this crowd.
Thanks for being here, Libertad. Stupid people need representation in the comments too.
… that there is NO “ObamaCare” in that there actually is no new health plan enacted by the the recent health law?
You can keep telling a lie all you want; that doesn’t make it true.
He’s done the following in recent weeks:
(1) Flat-out plagiarize
(2) Post a diary about Tancredo and then delete it after he didn’t like several comments
(3) Post a lengthy Tancredo press release to no fewer than THREE different threads
(4) Post a sexually explicit joke as a diary — then, after you deleted it, he reposted it in an open thread.
H and BJ and others at least have points to make; Libertad seems hell-bent on fucking with this site.
“bjwilson83 is way too crazy, at least H-man, Lib, and others have good points”. Which is it guys? Get your story straight.
Typology of the Conservatives on Pols
(1) Crazy Ignoramus: BJ is a crazy ignoramus who declares facts he doesn’t like to be a “hoax,” who believes long-disproven right-wing tall tales (“death panels”), and who takes a bigoted view of the crudaderific superiority of his religion — but he’s not a troll like Lib (see point 3 below).
(2) Troll ignoramus: Lib is as ignorant as BJ but also (a) an asshole on a deep personal level (see his shit-talking about war wounds to Dan) and (b) a troll whose primary goal is to fuck with this blog, in ways serious (eg plagiarism, spam, deletions after he dislikes) and stupid (posting multiple pictures of Christie and Tancredo on the theory it’ll annoy us).
(3) Fully Functioning Homo Sapiens: I basically have no issues with H and LB despite deep disagreements as to values, and occasionally fact disputes about what this or that policy really does; sometimes these disagreements piss me off enough to get strident, but they’re not in BJ’s or Lib’s league by a longshot. Barron can be a little wacky but is just as ok.
only pols can do that. As an FPE, I can promote or edit them, but don’t think I can delete them and haven’t tried.
Libby worries me a little for the degree to which he takes long stories, including an entire column from The Dead Tree Paper That Must Not Be Named and posts them, raising the spectre of legal problems.
But as to cutting and pasting a dirty joke — no copyright problem there, gentlemen, merely an issue of taste.
his/her own diary. There’s a button for it at the top when you go into edit. JO deletes his/her diaries all the time.
is what passes as political discourse in Conservapub circles. Hilarious, no?
bad policy outcomes by masking it in platitudes of hope and change when all its really delivered is unemployment and dispair.
It must have been how the failed Friedman-esque policies of the past 30 years nearly crashed the entire global economy. Yeah, that’s what it was. Thanks for reminding me.
Let’s celebrate that at least some women can legally practice their right to choose. These mothers chose to see their zygotes through pregnancy and become children. Too bad so many out there want to deny women who have legitimate need not to do the same with their zygotes the choice not to have them.
It’s stories like this that always shut liberals up. All I hear from them are crickets. Hard to face the babies they would rather kill when they survive and grow up to have a voice.
Seriously, you were under the impression people here actually played L’s videos?
Do you think we also make poster-size blowups of his repeatedly posted photos of Tancredo and Chris Christie? I know L has them on his basement wall, but anyone else?
Crickets on the issue.
Nobody but you watches Libby’s videos.
Crickets because we, the sane, do not watch L’tard’s videos. We can’t respond to something we choose to not waste time on.
It’s not just the topic or the likely perspective, it’s the quantity.
Time for a sundowner here on the coast…….
don’t want to see the truth. Typical lib.
I’m still waiting to hear why killing this amazing woman should be ok.
because they may be on his Tea Party Comprehensive Exams.
And you still haven’t answered why you wanted this woman dead.
though he wouldn’t mind a bit of mild discomfort befalling Harry Reid.
the V-ger himself, want the woman dead?
Isn’t that against something in the Bible?
Leviticus or somewhere?
Resolved Question
Friedman, NYT
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09…
.
Friedman is right once in a while.
.
Is there a meaningful debate on how to address any of the major, pressing problems, as opposed to slogans about “big government” or “shrink the deficit” (how TBD after I’m elected)?
So, eight City Council members from Bell, CA are arrested on corruption charges. This is the group that paid city managers, etc. into the high six figures, far above national averages for a city that size.
Newsbusters took a look at it, and lo and behold, the non-biased media just plum forgot to mention that all were Dems. I’m shocked I tell you – shocked!
Are you hopping on the asshole train too? “Democrat” when the proper word is “Democratic?”
As Card Check is circling out there, I see no association between “Democratic” and the proposed law’s proponents.
As you know, I’m not a Democrat so these insults mean nothing to me; but you should at least respect the English language.
I generally don’t use the term. Just keeping you on your toes.
I’m the engineer today.
Though you shure would like to say it does.
I am sure republicans freely acknowledge corrupt republicans belonging to the republican party.
(eyes rolling)
What happened in Bell, CA really is the current council followed the example of the last. just this one got caught.
I do not know what the political affiliation makeup of the last council was, but they DID get away with it.
I am happy heads are rolling in Bell. Regardless of the criminals affiliation. are You LB? or are you just happy they were all Democrats?
As frequently as I disagree with LB, he’s got a point.
On CO Pols there have been an uncountable number of posts highlighting a Republican’s transgressions/ethical lapses/hikes in old eroding mountain ranges/etc. And the tendency in these posts is to tar the entire Republican brand for these actions of the
fewok, it’s many. 😉Thus, I can see the humor in LB’s pointing out the political affiliation of the Bell CA Baddies – and he was honored with the kneejerk response that I bet he was expecting.
On the other hand, these folks are all Californians, so regardless of their party affiliations, they are intrinsically evil.
On the third hand, really, LB, you don’t need to stoop to poor grammar. In your case, it is a distraction.
…occasionally to remind people of how ludicrous EFCA is. I don’t generally spend too much time being insulting. It usually means you’ve already lost the debate.
so when you write “Democrat” in a post about a Corrupt California City Council, we’re supposed to read it as commentary about EFCA?
FAIL!
But I did have two intelligent posters ask me why I’d use the term, and then got to explain my usage.
Plus I’m the engineer on the asshole train today.
(I just wanted to wave from my asshole train as we pass yours sitting on the siding.)
the press usually reports that they are Republicans…;-)
Like John Wayne Gacy, as I explained to SXP last week.
Oops! Did I say R? He was a Dem precinct captain, and it has nothing to do with the nefarious, evil things he perpetrated.
I only wish that reality slid across the aisle to everyone here at Pols.
For the one and only time in my life. Some things are just too sweet to pass up.
.
Interesting article in politico.
http://www.politico.com/news/s…
My sense is before citizens union, Republicans would have picked up 30 seats.
After citizens union and companies, management and wealthy individuals, not just unions, have first amendment rights, 60 seats.
But thank God Republicans are finally kissing billionaire ass in public. It was so icky when you used to do it in the elevator and pretend not to.
It’s true, lots of money helps win elections, and Republicans are the party of the rich. I wouldn’t brag about that if I were you, but then I’m not on any billionaire payroll.
now you’re making up distinctions between corps and unions vis a vis the first amendment?! How do you have time to be wrong on so many things at once?
also, the case you’re trying to praise is not called “citizens union” (add that to your long list of mis-accomplishments)
I have been trying all morning to get a picture I copied from the web to paste as a comment post. I am not having any success even though I have tried every different format that I can think of. Does the picture have to be in some special format for it to be able to copy? Thank you dearies.
If the picture is already on the web, just link to it with an <img> tag:
<img src=’url_of_the_image’>
Where url_of_the_image is the actual URL of where it is. Just make sure the URL is in quotes.
You can also control the width and height of the image so it doesn’t blow Pols’ formatting;
<img src=’url’ width=’somenumber in pixels’ height=’someothernumber in pixels’> Just make sure the numbers are proportional to the original size or the image will stretch vertically or horizontally. You can also use percentages of the original, as in width=’50%’ height=’50%’. But if the original image ls less than 640 pixels wide, don’t worry about it.
Use the Preview button to make sure it’s working the way you want.
By leaving a voice mail on a lobbyist’s machine like this one from a certain U.S. represntative:
Maybe we should just encourage Craigslist to replace Sex Services with a new category: Political Offices.
Awhile back there was lots of gnashing and snarling about a certain candidate’s practice on his way from the office of sliding past a townhouse in a far off place to pocket contributions for his campaign. The news angle was that his then-leading opponent was using the same townhouse! Long forgotten — or not, as the case may be.
What struck me about the voice mail above wasn’t the contents–expected from both sides, to be sure–but the gross stupidity of the wording. If nothing else, the sender deserves to be defeated on simple grounds that s/he is too stupid to be influencing legislation!
Democracy? Government that derives its powers from the consent of the governed? That’s so 5th grade history.
Corporatocracy is the word we want now, rights fully protected, just as it says there in the Immutable Immortal Divine Document. And, comrades, let’s not pretend it isn’t done equally on both sides, so kindly don’t inflate everyone’s electric bill by suggesting that this is a partisan issue.
Think party labels mean something? I don’t either.
If we can get propositions with numbers in the 60s on the ballot, why not Proposition One: NO CORPORATE CONTRIBUTIONS FOR CANDIDATES FOR PUBLIC OFFICE on penalty of having your executive washroom key taken away for a week! And if the Supremes insist it requires an amendment, well, if amend we must, amend we shall. Gentlemen, start your amenders. Vroom, vroom.
PS: I’ve got another amendment waiting to go, while we’re in the process.
And they prosecuted some companies and (Republican)pols a few years back.
courtesy of Robert Reich, former Labor Secretary:
you’ll employ tax and regulatory policies. I get it … reorganizing the rules around the investment of private capital.
why would the powerful, wealthy elite want to change anything? I heard a brief excerpt from a Donald Trump interview today – the honorable Mr Trump warns (threatens) that if we let tax-cuts-for-the-wealthy expire, the wealthy will just move out of the good old USA. Oh, horrors! We can’t let that happen!
which is….which is…which is…dang, right here.
Except for Somalia, I guess.
catchya in a week or so
ps H-man, LB, Wilson, AS, Gecko, Ellie, marilou, OBR … feel free to lay-in youtube videos or other evidence of the Democrat’s failed economic policies.
Here’s the latest. Kathleen Parker talked about it in her column.
Her view of America ends at the Beltway.
That said, this quote explains why I don’t:
The economy was too messed up for incrementalism. As it is, the stimulus was too small.
New Time/CNN poll came out today.
http://www.realclearpolitics.c…
that you’ll post it anywhere and everywhere until you convince yourself.
Does it make Buck’s lying hurt less?
and it’s not just about policies.

I believe the exact wording, from a paid staffer of Senator Saxby Chambliss (R,GA), was
They were celebrating Chambliss’ vote to filibuster the defense appropriations bill. Sounds like somebody in the Senator’s office heard the dogwhistle a little too loud and clear.
