Who Will Win the U.S. Senate Race?

  • by: Colorado Pols

It’s time to poll again as we try to gauge the changing (or not) perceptions in the Senate race. Here’s last week’s results for comparison.

Remember, we want to know what you believe will happen, not what you might want to happen. To repeat our usual description, if you had to bet everything you owned on the outcome of this race, who would you pick?

    1. Of course this isn’t a scientific poll. Do you really think anyone thinks otherwise?

We’ve been asking the same question every week, just to see how perceptions of the race might be changing. This is just for fun. Relax.

        1. I made some calls, others have called me (this morning 2 more told me they were going with Bennet)and still others have e-mailed me back and forth.

What’s your problem Colorado Pols?  I didn’t disparage anyone or otherwise violate anything but your thin skin….

      1. I think Ellie was relaying the results of her own unscientific poll, suggesting at least 10 percent of the Republicans she’s sampled are abandoning Buck. Sounds about right.

      1. I have been taped to ColoPols waiting for the inevitable melt-down that will result in the banhammer descending upon Beej, No. 2, Froward, and/or others, and was afraid I’d missed it.

          1. The rape case handling, the Gay=Choice=Alcoholism nonsense, and the no abortion for victims of incest or rape.

She’s a fiscal conservative that leans to the right (voting Tipton over Salazar), but seeing how extreme he is on social issues turned her off in a big way. She’s pro-choice and pro-marriage equality.

She doesn’t have cable and has XM radio in her car, so the Meet The Press youtube clips was the first time she really got a sense of what Buck stands for.

Now I just need a clip of Tipton saying something really offensive and stupid and I’m good to go.

          2. By your “analysis,” why should someone care if a Senate candidate was a white-supremacist pederast? “How would that change his votes in the Senate at all?”

          3. How would that change his votes in the Senate at all? He was already against gay marriage.

Off the top of my head:

            (1) Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

            (2) Employment Nondiscrimination Act (has majority, unclear if it has 60 votes)

            (3) Votes on gay judicial and other nominees (Jesse Helms and others used to vote against anyone gay on the premise they voluntarily engage in immoral behavior)

But c’mon, BJ — you’re a true-blue culture warrior; don’t try to pretend you really think his views on homosexuality don’t matter.

            1. him to repeal DADT before that comment. Although, what does being gay being a choice have to do with it? You could still support repeal of DADT even if you think being gay is a choice.

              1. Troll gets a substantive answer

what does being gay being a choice have to do with it?

If you can choose your behavior, it doesn’t warrant protection of the class of people defined by it.

Antonin Scalia in dissent Lawrence v. Texas

Justice O’Connor argues that the discrimination in this law which must be justified is not its discrimination with regard to the sex of the partner but its discrimination with regard to the sexual proclivity of the principal actor.

“While it is true that the law applies only to conduct, the conduct targeted by this law is conduct that is closely correlated with being homosexual. Under such circumstances, Texas’ sodomy law is targeted at more than conduct. It is instead directed toward gay persons as a class.”

Of course the same could be said of any law. A law against public nudity targets “the conduct that is closely correlated with being a nudist,” and hence “is targeted at more than conduct”; it is “directed toward nudists as a class.”

Ignoring that discriminatory laws act against what people are pretending it’s just about what they do is the basis of right wing opposition to gay rights.

            1. And it isn’t pretty, based on your sig line. You’re doing the very thing you accuse me of doing in it, and worse. I don’t want to hear any more talk of cleaning up posts from you, since you clearly can’t do it yourself.

  1. I think that Buck’s supporters are already voting.  I think a lot of people are voting.  It is not clear to me how much of an election is still left to go.  I think that Buck looks awful and Bennet looks surprising good.  But, it might be too late.

  2. because of higher Republican crossovers, a big plurality of Independents and a stonger than expected Democratic turnout.  Buck’s favorability with Undecideds is 5/42, even though 53% of them voted for McCain.

    CANDIDATES MATTER!

      1. ….because they weren’t inspired. AT ALL.

They see the Dems in Congress are a bunch of candyass, and they’re driven to despair by the depth of stupidity and hostility of the Tea Party.

But because so many people registered to vote for 2008, it’s not going to be that hard to vote this year. If they got a mail-in ballot, they’ll eventually pull it out, color in the lines, and either mail it in or drop it off. If they have to do it the old fashion way, I’m sure they’re not looking forward to it, but they eventually get off the couch and hit the polling places.

They’re not looking forward to it, but they’ll do it. As the Republican’ts continue to implode, I think it’s not going to be Pee-Pee dance time for the Repubs….
